North of North Season 2 Recap

With winter approaching, Siaja has big plans to upgrade her life. She’s still living with her mother, Neevee, and co-parenting her daughter, Bun, with Ting, who no longer lives in town thanks to an airline relocation. Her relationship with her father, Alistair, continues to grow, and she’s mostly gotten used to ignoring the heartbreak of seeing Kuuk with his girlfriend, Alexis. However, what she can’t ignore is how the other woman keeps overshadowing her in promoting local tourism through her influencer career. When Alexis overhears her talking to Millie and Colin about the cultural insensitivity of her being the inadvertent face of the Inuk town, she concedes her name from hosting an event that would conclude a cruise ship’s time at Ice Cove. Instead, she props Siaja up as the ideal candidate for the job. In turn, the community center worker sets up a memorable night of an immersive cultural experience.

Unfortunately for her, Siaja ends up shooting for the moon only to end up crashing back on the ground. Still, she refuses to let the setback knock her down and tries to prove her worth once again by employing Alistair’s help to deliver ice to elder residents in an attempt to make her boss look better for the papers. Although this endeavor nearly swerves into disaster after a brief E. coli outbreak, the father-daughter duo manages to repair some of the damage. More than anything, it’s Siaja’s perseverance and persuasiveness that convince Helen to let her take the lead on the town’s winter community-wide event. Thus, the idea of the Winter Ball is born. While she deals with this major professional venture, Siaja also has to deal with a few hurdles in her personal life. Neevee refuses to entertain the idea of using genetic genealogy tests to try to find her first daughter.

Consequently, Siaja makes the reckless decision to steal her mother’s DNA without her consent to go down that rabbit hole on her own. On the other hand, she learns that Ting has already moved on and even gotten married again. This puts pressure on her own non-existent love life. Nonetheless, her feelings for Kuuk prevent her from committing to anything serious. Eventually, she also considers the idea of moving out of her mother’s house and finding a place with her friend, Millie. Nonetheless, shortly after they begin hunting for rentals, Colin manages to track down Siaja’s half-sister, Olivia Jensen. As it turns out, Neevee’s estranged daughter is an artist with an upcoming exhibit in Toronto. Thus, Siaja is compelled to fly out to the big city in hopes of connecting with her sister and convincing her to visit Ice Cove to reunite with her mother.

Nevertheless, the trip ends up being a total disaster. When Siaja returns home, it’s with a dark cloud over her and a perpetual cold shoulder from Olivia Jensen. During her first week back, she all but falls into a deep depressive state. She abandons her work on the upcoming Winter Ball and isolates herself from her friends and family. Eventually, Neevee is able to coax her daughter out of this self-destructive state, giving her the inspiration and motivation she needs to get back out there. As such, Siaja returns to work, luckily before the date of the Ball, which she has worked so hard to organize. Still, luck proves not to always be in her favor. On the day of the Winter Ball, a huge storm overtakes the town, putting the event’s success at risk. Even so, Siaja, ever the optimistic problem solver, rolls with the punches and rallies her community together to ensure they can enjoy this joyous celebration.

North of North Season 2 Ending: Will Olivia Come to Ice Cove?

When Siaja initially sets out on the mission to find her long-lost sister, she does so with the intention of reuniting her mother with her daughter, who was taken from her a long time ago. Neevee gave birth to her first daughter, Ivalvu, when she was only 16 years old. The father was a much older white man who convinced the mother to let him take their child away to visit his family. However, neither the father nor the daughter ever returned. This monumentally traumatic event in her past continues to shape Neevee’s reality, saturating her with an innate sense of cynicism and a fear of abandonment. For the same reason, the mother chose to keep this part of her life a secret for so long. Even so, she never stopped thinking about her daughter. In fact, every year on her birthday, she would write a card for Ivalvu as a way to keep the kid in her life.

As Siaja sets out for Toronto, she intends to share these same birthday cards with Olivia Jensen. However, once she actually finds herself face-to-face with her sister, something strange happens. The other woman feels so familiar that Siaja becomes overcome with the idea of befriending her half-sister and becoming a part of her life. Consequently, rather than coming out with the truth at once, she puts on a false persona, introducing herself as Simone, to gain Olivia’s friendship. Soon enough, she finds herself on the guest list for the artist’s upcoming exhibition. Yet, nothing could’ve prepared Siaja for the reality of her sister’s art. As it would turn out, the artist mines significant inspiration for her work from her past. Nevertheless, Olivia is a complete stranger to the reality of her Inuit roots.

Instead, she only knows what her manipulative father has told her. For the same reason, she believes that her mother was an alcoholic who chose to abandon her when she was a child. Once Siaja is confronted with the reality of this distorted perception, she’s taken off guard. This leads to a hostile confrontation where she finally reveals the truth of her identity to her half-sister. In turn, the latter feels betrayed by this charade and ceases all communication. That is until the Winter Ball, when she finally reaches out to Siaja once again. The encounter between the two sisters in Toronto was a whirlwind in all the wrong ways. Olivia barely had the time to digest any of the harsh truths about hr past before she was made to feel ashamed of her reaction to it. Now that some time has passed, she has been able to gain some perspective. Now, she’s only left with an abundance of questions for her family that would be best addressed in person. Thus, it seems the artist might be booking a flight to Ice Cove in the near future.

Do Siaja and Kuuk End Up Together?

Siaja and Kuuk’s will-they-won’t-they romance has been in the works since season 1. Nonetheless, the timing has never been quite right for the couple. In the last season, the protagonist makes her interest in Kuuk known by kissing him, only to discover moments later that he actually has a girlfriend. Thus, for the bulk of season 2, Siaja finds herself in an awkward position wherein she has to endure the couple and their happy relationship while stifling her own feelings. On the other hand, Kuuk is in a similar boat. He has always been uncertain about his relationship with Alexis, largely because he felt like his dreams and ambitions weren’t being supported in the dynamic. Therefore, by joining him at Ice Cove, his girlfriend is actively putting in the effort to correct her past mistakes.

Even so, the situation is taking a visible toll on the couple. Even though Alexis is staying at Ice Cove to show her commitment to their relationship, it’s obvious that the Arctic town is the last place she wants to be. Meanwhile, once Kuuk stops working with Alistair and joins the local middle school as a substitute teacher, she finds a different calling for herself. Thus, the couple seems perpetually unable to be on the same page. Despite the depth of their feelings for each other, they eventually have to accept the fact that they want different things out of life. As such, the duo inevitably breaks up. By the time the Winter Ball rolls around, a recently single Kuuk realizes that his unresolved past with Siaja had played a pivotal role in the end of his last relationship.

Therefore, Kuuk decides to make his move on the day of the Ball. At first, he’s only planning on asking Siaja for a dance, avoiding any big dramatic declarations. However, it seems fate has other plans for the couple. A raging storm jeopardizes the success of the Winter Ball, threatening guest attendance, the power supply, and the arrival of Elisapie, a renowned Inuk singer whom Siaja had managed to book for the event. While the community center workers focus on putting out the other fires, Kuuk takes on the biggest challenge and sets off to ensure the musician makes it to the venue in time. Ultimately, when he succeeds in this task, he surprises Siaja by showing her that he cares about her dreams and is willing to go the extra mile to make them happen. In the end, the protagonist asks him for a dance at the Ball, allowing the couple to finally find their way to each other.

Does Neevee Love Alistair? Does She End Up With Him?

Alistair becomes a permanent resident of Ice Cove to be closer to his daughter and granddaughter. In turn, this also puts him in the orbit of his ex, Neevee, turning the latter’s life more complicated than she ever wanted it to be. What happened to Siaja’s mother when she was a teenager deeply and fundamentally wounded her. As a result, she grew up to be highly distrustful of others and eager to strike out on her own. This way, she can spare herself the possibility of betrayal at the hands of others. However, in the process of protecting herself, Neevee often ends up hurting others. Alistair is the prime example of this effect. Even now, as the two constantly find themselves in each other’s lives through Siaja and Bun, Neevee keeps her guard up.

At the same time, a tourist named Kati Bloom decides to extend her stay at Ice Cove in search of inspiration for her latest romance novel. She takes an early interest in Alistair, who reciprocates her attraction. As the two begin casually seeing each other, Neevee’s jealousy compels her to confront the truth about her feelings for her ex. Naturally, the author takes notice of this tension-fuelled love triangle and decides to confront it head-on. At the Winter Ball, she puts her cards on the table and asks Neevee point-blank if she still has feelings for Alistair. Although the other woman tries to deny it at first, the truth inevitably comes out. However, Kati doesn’t seem interested in entering any sort of competition for Alistair’s affection. In the ned, she simply takes her leave, happy to have found creative inspiration through Neevee and her story. Even though the latter still isn’t ready to reckon with the reality of her feelings for the father of her daughter, she at least accepts the truth of it.
