Halyna Hutchins’ Parents Are Still Fighting for Justice

On October 21, 2021, Halyna Hutchins’ parents, Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych, received a devastating call informing them that she had been killed while working on the set of Rust. At the time, they were in Ukraine and desperately sought more details about what had happened. Determined to hold those responsible for the negligence accountable, they pursued justice despite the distance. In Hulu’s ‘Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,’ Olga reflected on the daughter she cherished and shared her thoughts on the film, whose production cost Halyna her life.

Olga and Anatolii Learnt of Their Daughter’s Passing in the Middle of the Night

Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych welcomed their daughter, Halyna Anatoliivna Androsovych, into the world on April 9, 1979. They raised her and their other daughter, Svetlana, in Murmansk, Russia, on a Soviet military base. Halyna’s father served in the Soviet Navy, while her mother worked as a nurse at a hospital. Always supportive of their daughter’s ambitions, they encouraged her when she pursued journalism and later transitioned into filmmaking. When Halyna moved to the U.S. and got married, they were happy to see her building a life she loved and following her dreams.

On October 21, 2021, in the middle of the night in Ukraine, Olga received a call from her son-in-law, Matthew Hutchins, who delivered the devastating news that Halyna had passed away. It was the most heartbreaking moment of her life and was almost impossible to believe. What was even more difficult to comprehend was how it had occurred. As more details emerged, the family felt deep sorrow, anger, and frustration—fueling their relentless pursuit of justice.

Olga and Anatolii Continue to Pursue Legal Battles to Get Justice for Their Daughter Today

Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych remained in Kyiv, Ukraine, for some time, partly due to the ongoing war. According to reports, the former continued working at the hospital where she had served for 30 years, driven by her dedication to her country. Their travel was heavily restricted. In the spring of 2023, when filming for ‘Rust resumed,’ the production team sought their permission to move forward. Olga agreed and expressed that she wanted to see her daughter’s dream fulfilled. She believed Halyna would have wanted her work to be completed and her vision realized. In April 2024, she attended the sentencing hearing of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was convicted in connection with her daughter’s death.

Standing before everyone present, she delivered an emotional statement about the pain of losing Halyna and how heartbreaking it was to see her grandson, Andros, growing up without his mother. She expressed that time had not eased her grief; instead, it had only deepened with each passing day. Olga’s other daughter, Svetlana Zemko, also spoke during the sentencing, sharing her own sorrow and frustration over the tragic loss. A lawyer read a statement from Anatolii Androsovych, who was unable to attend or record a video due to his illness. He described Halyna’s death as a “bitter loss” and revealed that her passing had led to a rapid decline in his health. In 2023, Halyna’s parents and sister filed a civil lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and several producers, alleging negligence and the deprivation of benefits from the emotional and financial support Halyna had provided.

The defense argued that Halyna did not have a particularly close relationship with her parents and sought to dismiss their claims for loss of consortium. In June 2024, the family’s lawyers filed court papers requesting that the lawsuit be dismissed “without prejudice,” though no explanation was provided. However, in March 2025, following the release of Baldwin’s reality TV show, Olga and her family renewed their pursuit of justice and issued a notice requesting that Baldwin sit for a deposition in their wrongful death lawsuit. Their attorneys stated that this step was taken to provide Olga with answers about what truly led to her daughter’s death.
