Season 9 episode 2 of ‘My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?’ provides new updates about Ontreon Shannon’s weight loss journey. He was battling advanced diabetes and congestive heart failure, all while relying on several medications. He had also shared that his unhealthy relationship with food had long served as a source of comfort. However, when it hindered his dream of starting a family, he realized he needed help. Initially, his weight was 702.4 lbs, and Dr. Nowzaradan gave him the goal of losing 80 lbs in two months. Yet, when Ontreon returned, he only managed to drop his weight to 683.4 lbs. His slow progress and lack of commitment to maintaining a strict diet led the doctor to send him to psychotherapy.
Ontreon Shannon Couldn’t Undergo Weight Loss Surgery Due to Multiple Setbacks
When Ontreon Shannon came to Dr. Nowzaradan for his next appointment, his weight had increased to 704.3 lbs. It prompted the doctor to issue an ultimatum: there would be no reason for him to return unless he showed significant improvement. At the one-year and one-month mark, Ontreon felt that he might have lost some weight. However, when he stood on the scale, it read 702.4 lbs. He admitted before Dr. Nowzaradan that he may not have followed the diet plan and exercise routine completely. The doctor issued another warning that either Ontreon had to make changes or there was no point in coming to the clinic again. By the following month, he began taking small but important steps. Ontreon attended therapy and addressed the emotional roots of his eating habits.
Around 16 months into the program, Ontreon even took the help of his trainer to prepare a meal plan for himself. His determination became visible just two months later when it was revealed that he had shed significant weight, bringing the scale down to 639 lbs. Encouraged by his progress, Dr. Nowzaradan finally approved him for weight loss surgery. However, he set the condition that Ontreon needed to lose another 25 lbs within the next two months. Unfortunately, the latter lost momentum, which he attributed to his recent move to a bigger apartment. When the season concluded by one year and seven months into his journey, Ontreon weighed 639 lbs and was still working on getting under 600 lbs to get surgery.
Ontreon Shannon Gives Rare Glimpses of His Health Journey on Social Media
Ontreon Shannon had opened up about a part of his identity during the show. He revealed that he is a Licensed Minister, having earned it in May 2014. However, his professional path began in September 2004 when he worked as a Loss Prevention professional at Fry’s Electronics. He held the role until July 2011, after which he joined as a Security Guard at Executive Security Systems, Inc. in June 2013. Three months later, Ontreon began serving at Cinemark as an Assistant Manager. He moved on from these positions in April and June 2014, respectively. In November of that same year, the reality star took on several roles, like a Telemarketer for Jani-King International, Inc., and a driver for Uber and Lyft.
Ontreon also served as a Payment Analyst/Escalation Collections Professional at CMI Call Center from October 2015 to December 2017. Moreover, the reality star has embraced social media to stay connected with his fans. He currently has over 2.3K followers on Instagram and has built a community of 1.3K on Facebook. Till 2024, Ontreon had shared minor updates about his weight loss journey, in one of which he was eating an apple, indicating that he had continued to stay on the right path. In August 2025, Ontreon reshared one of his old posts, carrying the message, “Working on me! Small Changes Make Large Impacts!!” It may suggest that he has continued to try to meet his goal weight.
From time to time, Ontreon’s fans leave encouraging messages urging him not to give up on his progress. One of them said, “Hi there, young man. I just want to say that you can do this. God has a great plan for you and your wife. Trust in Him with all your heart, and he will help you through the process. In Jesus’ Name.” In his most recent selfie from May 2025, he appeared to have lost some weight. Additionally, Ontreon utilizes his Instagram page to promote his Cameo account and Cash App, where his followers can send money to showcase their support. A man of strong spiritual conviction, he frequently shares uplifting messages on his social media.
Ontreon Shannon Leans on His Wife and Faith to Move Forward in Life
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ontreon Shannon’s world is deeply rooted in his love for his wife, Musa. She has always been his most significant source of comfort and his greatest motivator. Throughout the show, she accompanied him to the doctor’s appointments. Even when he was reluctant to eat healthy, she pushed him to make the right choice. When Ontreon exercised outside their home, Musa stood beside him to ensure he didn’t feel alone in his journey. Even after the cameras stopped rolling, the couple’s love story has continued to shine. Ontreon often shares pictures with his wife, whether it be them going on a casual date or even on a romantic dinner for her birthday.
In May 2024, Ontreon’s affection was fully displayed when he wished Musa on her birthday and referred to her as his “Queen.” The duo celebrated their six years of togetherness in July 2025. They also never miss a chance to celebrate and create lifelong memories on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Despite the happy moments, Ontreon’s life hasn’t been without challenges. He had shared during his therapy sessions that he had faced the loss of several of his family members. However, what affected Ontreon most was the death of one of his aunts, who was just like his sister and had a close bond with him.
With professional help, Ontreon eventually succeeded in coping with the grief. In December 2024, tragedy struck once again when another of his aunts, BJ, passed away. He had shared about her memorial service and pictures of her, which highlighted how much she meant to him. Amid everything, the reality star has found strength in his faith to keep moving forward. Currently, Ontreon has chosen to keep further information about his private life under wraps. However, he has made it clear that no matter the situation, he will never back away from facing the challenges.
