‘Osiris’ presents an action-heavy story about humans vs aliens, wherein a group of Special Forces soldiers takes the narrative helm. The protagonist of the tale, Michael Kelly, the leader of the military squad, has years of experience in engaging in deadly missions alongside his brothers in arms. Still, nothing can prepare him and the other soldiers for their penultimate mission in the Middle East that ends with their abduction aboard an alien aircraft. Decades into the future, these men come out of their stasis enclosures to find themselves aboard a spacebound vessel, ruled by intelligent and deadly alien life forms who feast on their human prisoners. However, despite their dwindling numbers, there is also a group of rebels, led by former Russian military personnel, Anya. As a result, Kelly and the others find themselves hurled from one fight into another with the stakes higher than ever. Naturally, their new enemies, one from outer space, become an object of intrigue, particularly regarding their extraterrestrial origins. SPOILERS AHEAD!
The Aliens Use the 1977 Probe to Get to Earth
Much like Kelly and his comrades, the audience is also thrown into the narrative headfirst without much context or explanation. However, as the plot progresses and new characters, namely Ravi and Anya, are introduced, some aspects of the alien invasion begin to clear up. As it turns out, the alien creatures got their hands on the map that led them straight to Earth thanks to a NASA probe that was sent out in 1977. Back then, it was decided that a map of Earth, known as the Map of Osiris, would be included in the information harbored aboard the probe. As a result, the alien species were able to use this map to chart a course to Earth and begin their invasive attack. Given the fact that the NASA probe was essential to the invasion, it can be assumed that the alien creatures were already in Interstellar space when they found the probe.

Notably, the probe was only in outer space for forty to fifty years before it was captured by an alien species. As a result, it seems that the distance between Earth and the alien spacecraft that intercepted the celestial vessel is comparable to the same amount of time. This can either mean that the aliens share the Milky Way with Earth and its solar system or that their travel had simply brought them to the galaxy. While this deduction somewhat narrows down the origins of the aliens, it still remains impossible to pinpoint the exact origin planet of the extraterrestrial species. The film intentionally keeps the worldbuilding around this plot point ambiguous to ensure that the bulk of the focus in the story remains on the central characters and their contained storyline.
The Aliens’ Mysterious Home Plant Could be Undergoing a Possible Resource Shortage
Even though there’s no definitive answer about what planet or solar system the aliens originate from, the nature of their invasion can be used to draw a few assumptions and predictions about their home world. For one, the sole, central reason behind the alien species’ arrival on Earth stems from their desire to subjugate humans and use them as a food source. However, the aliens aren’t simply destroying Earth and its inhabitants. Instead, they are also attempting to take a good chunk of the population with them as preserved livestock. This desire to bring food back to their home world suggests a level of local demand in the aliens’ planet that could be a result of a massive food shortage.

Therefore, it’s possible that despite having a surplus of technological advancement to wage interspace warfare, the aliens are suffering from a resource shortage of their food source. If this is true, then the singular spacecraft that attacks Earth can be classified as a hunting ship. Consequently, if the war between the aliens and the humans stemmed from desperation and hunger rather than simple pride, it would also explain why the extraterrestrials were willing to risk interstellar stranding for their mission. Alternatively, the aliens’ compatibility with Earth and humans also reveals some details about their home world. For instance, their ability to feed on humans and survive within Earth’s atmosphere implies that their planet shares a very similar natural foundation. Yet, ultimately, outside of these educated guesses, no real conclusions can be drawn about the origins of the alien creatures.
