Netflix’s ‘Million Dollar Secret‘ is the epitome of a cutthroat competition series, considering the lies, hunts, and deceptions the participants need to be involved in at every step of the way. After all, it revolves around a group of strangers who must find the undercover millionaire in their midst, hoping to eliminate them to keep the money for themselves and win the game. Amongst them in this debut season is Phillip “Phil” Roundtree, a cool, calm, and collected individual whose strategy was to just observe everything quietly.
Phillip “Phil” Roundtree’s Strategy Turned Out to be a Double-Edged Sword
From the moment we first came across Phil, it was evident he had the smarts to make it far in the game, especially since his priority was to read people. He didn’t set his eyes on game plays because he just wanted to know how others behaved before making any waves, unaware it would soon end up putting a target on his back. He survived the first elimination, but when the person he suspected of being the millionaire behaved in a way he deemed strange, he couldn’t help but point it out. The fact he subsequently lost his cool when she (Se Young Metzroth) began shedding tears, believing she was trying to manipulate the group, didn’t help either.
That’s because while some players’ focus did shift toward her, others couldn’t comprehend why Phil went from 0 to 100 so quickly over a small discussion. In their eyes, this was strange behavior, but he wasn’t the millionaire at that point and only became the millionaire the next morning when Lauren chose to have the money randomly reassigned, which changed everything. Phil actually went back to his original strategy of being an observer, but now he wasn’t even partaking in everyday conversations, making people all the more suspicious. He has survived three eliminations, one as a millionaire, and only time will tell how he fares as the game goes on.
Philip “Phil” Roundtree is a Social Worker and Proud Entrepreneur
While little is known about Phil’s background or early years, we know he had enrolled at the Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg for a Bachelor’s in Social Work as soon as he graduated from school. He earned this degree in 2005, after which he kickstarted his career and decided to pursue further studies with a Master’s in the same field from Rutgers University. For over 5 years, he served as a social worker at the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Human Services. Then, he became a Behavioral Specialist & Mobile Therapist at Carson Valley Children’s Aid.
Phil served as a specialist from 2011 to 2018. Still, during this period, he also earned another Master’s degree from PennWest California University, but this time in Kinesiology and Exercise Science for Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention. After all, he believes that physical, mental, and social health are all necessary to ensure a person’s true happiness. To help in this process, in 2016, he also established Quadefy, through which he offers resources to help people become their best selves. Moreover, and more importantly, he is now a doctor and professor. He earned his Ph.D in Social Work from the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (2020-2023) and has been serving as a professor at Delaware State University since 2020.
Phillip Never Shies Away From Expressing Himself and Encourages Others to Do the Same
While Phil has never revealed the details or the causes behind his deep interest in mental health, we do know he was diagnosed with depression and anxiety over two decades ago. He still takes medications for the same and has even done therapy, so he knows that a sound system, a positive outset, and a focus on other aspects of one’s health helps, too. Therefore, he has long been dedicated to ensuring he does his best to aid those like him.
Whether it be meditation, exercise, food, or social bonds, he encourages people to venture into everything in moderation to be at peace with their spirit, mind, heart, and soul. In fact, to spread this message, he is an entrepreneur and a public speaker. He prefers to keep the details of his personal life well away from the spotlight these days, but we know the doctor, professor, and therapist is also the host of the ‘You Good Man’ podcast, which talks about men’s mental health. He is also vocal about his pop cultural and political beliefs, and he has been sober for over four years.
