Is Player 333 Father of the Baby? Does He Die in Squid Game?

The third season of Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ concludes the second round of the games that started in the second season with Seong Gi-hun’s return. One of the contestants this time is a pregnant woman named Jun-hee, and what makes her story more interesting is that the father of the baby is also playing the game. In the third season, Jun-hee, her child, and the father go through some tough circumstances, and by the end, all three of their lives are changed forever. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Player 333’s Connection to the Baby Helps Save Her in the Last Game

When Jun-hee (Player 222) arrives at the games, she reunites with Myung-gi (Player 333), the man she was once in love with but has since started to detest because of his bad actions. While she is not surprised to see him there, he is shocked to see her, particularly after he notices that she is pregnant. When they split up months ago, he wasn’t aware that she was carrying his child. This revelation makes him even more adamant about seeing the game through to the end and winning at any cost. He tells himself that he is not doing it just for himself anymore but for his child and its mother.

Throughout the games, as he tries to survive and win, he also keeps an eye on Jun-hee, and sometimes uses saving her as an excuse to do some very bad things. When the baby is born, she keeps him at a distance because he needlessly kills Hyun-ju (Player 120), once again proving that he is just as ruthless and bloodthirsty as the others, if not more. While he shows concern for Jun-hee, he also keeps enough distance from her so that no one can suspect that he is the father of her child. Even when she dies, he makes no effort to claim the baby, which shows that he is more focused on winning the game.

In the end, with only nine players left, one of whom is the baby, Seong Gi-hun is the only one who seems concerned about the baby and is willing to do anything to protect her. For his part, Myung-gi tries to work with more tact to make sure that the baby survives. In the Sky Squid Game, he joins the others and manipulates them into killing Min-su in the first round so that Gi-hun and the baby are saved. However, things get a little trickier in the second round.

Player 333’s Greed Becomes His Downfall

In the second round, when the time comes to choose another player to sacrifice so that the others can move on to the third round, all the others vote to kill the baby. At first, Myung-gi joins them, but then, he pushes one of them off the ledge, revealing that he doesn’t want the baby to die, as he is her father. While the others are shocked at this revelation and even question the veracity of his claim, Gi-hun realizes that he’d seen Myung-gi talk to Jun-hee during the jump rope game and realizes that the man is telling the truth. The fact that the baby’s father is there gives some hope and relief to Gi-hun, and sure enough, Myung-gi kills almost everyone else to make sure that only he, Gi-hun, and the baby survive in the end.

For the third round, one person is needed for the sacrifice, and at first, Myung-gi thinks about keeping the lunchbox guy alive, whom the others had beaten up with the intent to throw him off the ledge in the third round. But when the guy realises his plan, he jumps off himself, ensuring that his death does not benefit anyone. When Myung-gi realises that only he, Gi-hun, and the baby are left, he comes up with the plan to make sure that he is not the one to die in the end. When the time comes to move on to the final round, Gi-hun seems to have made up his mind to sacrifice himself to save the child.

But then, Myung-gi forces him to stay back and asks him to give the child to him. This is when Gi-hun realises that Myung-gi plans to kill the child to win the game. When he offers to sacrifice himself, Myung-gi refuses to believe it, mainly because he himself wouldn’t do such a thing for anyone else. He is afraid that if Gi-hun moves on to the final round, he will try to win the whole thing for himself, and he has been keeping the child to use only as a shield for himself.

The realisation that Myung-gi is ready to kill the baby leads Gi-hun to fight back. At one point, Myung-gi even threatens to throw the child off the ledge, but things turn out such that he and Gi-hun fight and both fall off the ledge. Fortunately, Gi-hun finds something to hold on to, while Myung-gi tries to hold on to his jacket, which eventually tears off, leading Player 333 to fall to his death and ending his journey in the game.
