The second season of Peacock’s ‘Poker Face’ comes to an end on a terrible note for Charlie Cale. Having spent months being free and not being afraid of any mob bosses following her, she finds herself back at square one with the FBI after her. What makes it worse is that there is a psycho assassin obsessed with her now, which means that the danger has increased tenfold. Considering the uncertain terms at which the finale leaves Charlie, it makes sense for another chapter of her story to be told over the next season. So far, Peacock has not renewed the series, but even if that happens, we might have to wait till mid-2027 to get the third season, considering that there was a two-year gap between the first and second. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Poker Face Season 3 Will Have Charlie Back on the Run
Charlie Cale’s life turned completely upside down at the beginning of the first season when she was found responsible for the death of a mob boss. She was forced to leave her job and friends (one of whom was killed by the boss) and was on the run for a long while before Beatrix Hasp got arrested and called off the hit on Charlie. Now, with the FBI and the Iguana haunting her, she is forced to go on the run again, and this time, she will have to be more careful.
Charlie cannot let her guard down, but there is bound to come a point where she will cross paths with her newfound nemesis again, which would be quite an interesting thing to witness after the way things went down between the two of them in the car that flew off the cliff. Their Sherlock-Moriarty equation will intensify, especially since Charlie would still be reeling from Alex’s betrayal. She might even start doubting her lie-detecting abilities, considering that her talents have finally been challenged. In addition to this, the show will continue to feature episodic mysteries where Charlie will inadvertently find herself in the middle of a murder investigation, and her good nature will lead her to help solve it, no matter how much she wants not to get involved.
Poker Face Season 3 Will Dive Into Charlie and Iguana’s Conflict
Though it has been two seasons, there is so much that we don’t know about Charlie yet. With her being forced to go on the run and two major powers chasing after her, she will need someone she can trust. This is where the connections from her past might come into play. With this, the third season of the show could dive into her familial connections, bringing past conflicts to the fore. The season might also finally put a face to Good Buddy, with whom Charlie has been conversing over the radio so far, and we might get to know more about who he really is. More interestingly, the next season might give us more insight into the Iguana, whose identity is revealed at the end of Season 2.
In a shocking twist, it turns out that Charlie’s new friend, Alex, is the infamous assassin. Not only is she great at killing people, but she has also been consistently lying to Charlie, until she could not anymore. We might find out more about her past, and more importantly, about her future plans, especially if they include Charlie. In another turn of events, Luca Clark might get more screen time, considering that he will have to face the repercussions of letting Charlie go, and more importantly, not stopping her from finding Beatrix, leading the Iguana to kill her. So far, Charlie had always been responsible for getting him promotions, but now, she might finally have become the reason for him to worry about losing his job altogether.
Poker Face Season 3 Will Bring New Characters to the Fore
Despite its running theme of Charlie Cale being on the run for one reason or another, at its heart, ‘Poker Face’ remains a mystery-of-the-week kind of show. The next season is also expected to follow the same pattern, which means we can expect fresh cameos with each episode. Still, a few characters will make a return. Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie is still going to be at the centre of the show, and with the FBI on her tail, she is bound to cross paths with Simon Helberg’s Luca Clark again. Lili Taylor and Taylor Schilling might also return to reprise their roles as FBI agents Darville and Annie Milligan.
With Alex, aka the Iguana, set up as the major villain for the next season, Patti Harrison is also bound to return as Alex. In an interesting turn of events, Steve Buscemi’s Good Buddy might finally show his face. If not, he will continue to be the recurring voice of reason and friendship for Charlie, which she desperately needs now that everything has gone haywire. Unfortunately, Beatrix Hasp’s death means that Rhea Perlman is likely not to return to the series, unless it is for flashback sequences. However, her absence opens the door for new characters and new actors to join an already star-studded cast.
