Power Book III Raising Kanan Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: The Price of Fame

As expected in episode 6 of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ season 4, titled ‘The Price of Fame,’ Famous’ death has left Kanan and his family with a lot to process in a short period. Although the titular protagonist has been through his share of struggles in the past, nothing comes close to losing his best pal from the start. As such, we see each family member try their best to resolve the hole left behind in their own ways, with some more destructive than others. It also presents Lou-Lou with his first real challenge since his rehabilitation as he struggles to come to terms with his sobriety in the face of a tragic loss like Famous. Things also take a turn on the Unique front, as significant changes are made to the plan as the conflict grows ever closer. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Kanan Becomes Possessed With Fire as He Contemplates Famous’ Death

After the sad ending to the last episode, the sixth episode starts with Kanan and the Thomas family paying respects to Famous at Cafe Vous. While Kanan is itching to get his hands on the person responsible for killing his friend, the others in the family have a similar mindset, including the newly rehabilitated Lou-Lou. Elsewhere, Unique shows up at Phil Russo’s compound, stating that he is ready to take the fight to Raq. Although hesitant, Russo agrees to back Unique with his resources and men. However, they need to start a “Cold War” against the Thomas family matriarch before jumping straight into the fire. In the meantime, Raq and Marvin face difficulties taming David, who is the new head of factory operations, following Terry’s murder in the previous episode. Raq tells her brother it is his duty to keep David in line from here on out.

When Kanan heads back to his drug operation, O-Cee questions him about their next steps. The boy announces that finding the killer is their first and only priority now. He then discreetly drops the latest cash collection in the same hiding spot as before. Unbeknownst to him, O-Cee spies him from afar. At a group therapy session, Lou-Lou expresses his loss of identity and his inability to process Famous’ grief now that he is no longer drinking. The same applies to a different degree for Jukebox, who fishes out a gun from under the sofa cushion as she plots a way to get revenge for Famous. Meanwhile, Detective Garcia asks for help from Ms. Figueroa in order to find her son’s killer. However, his interest irks her further because he was disinterested in finding him for months until he turned up dead. She kicks him out of the house unceremoniously.

The Killers are Potentially Identified While Raq Lines Up a New Partner

During a short visit to Joyce’s place, Lou-Lou gets asked by his mother to put her out of her misery. She tells him that Marvin was unable to do the deed, so now the onus falls on him even though he is more sensitive to such things. Like his brother, Lou-Lou declines to help his mother, stating that he is worried about what it might do to him if he goes through with it. We get a short montage of Unique getting primed for the occasion as he finally prepares to take the fight to Raq on a bigger scale. At the same time, Kanan is informed by O-Cee and the other underlings that Freddie Wilds’ gang may have been the ones to kill Famous. Across town, Lou-Lou has a frustrating day at the studio as he pulls up B-Rilla for his lyrics, which he thinks should be deeper. When B-Rilla disagrees and hits out at him, Lou-Lou decides to step outside to calm down.

Business never stops for Raq, who has a meeting with Hafiz accompanied by Stefano. The Thomas family matriarch and the New York mafia boss provide Hafiz with a chance to open a new factory for their partnership. However, he has to pick up the tab himself. Kanan scopes out Freddie Wilds’ gang from his car, itching to gun them down himself. He eventually decides against it when he sees they are armed themselves. Elsewhere, Raq stops by Kanan’s new place, only to be greeted by Krystal. She tells Krystal to look out for her boy as he may not be in his right mind now that Famous is gone. The problem seems to be bleeding to other places as Lou-Lou struggles to keep himself sober as he stares at a glass of drink at a bar. Jessica arrives to pull him out of his reverie.

Marvin Has a Tough Talk With Jukebox Over Her Choices

Decked out in prime gear, Unique meets Russo’s contact, Akbar, as they plan their next move. When Kanan arrives home late, Krystal tells him she is worried about his well-being and that he may be on the path to doing something stupid. A similar conversation takes place after Marvin catches Jukebox coming home with his gun in her possession. She tells him she was using it for target practice, an exercise that calmed her mind when she was in the army. Marvin tells his daughter that he does not want her to go down the same path as him, as it only leads to bad things. Unfortunately, it may be too late to course-correct. Meanwhile, Lou-Lou finds some solace from his current worries and Famous’ death as he and Jessica rekindle their old flame for one night.

Irwin takes over the Golden Pavilion business, worried that his partnership with Raq is costing too much. However, she assures him that things will be better and safer in the future. In the meantime, we learn that Early is getting his hands dirty as a bookie working for Stefano and the Thomas family. The only issue is his margins keep getting squeezed from two sides, which Marvin is least bothered by. Imani stops by the music studio to catch up on Lou-Lou, which quickly turns sour when she discovers Jessica’s necklace on the table. She knows that Jessica used to be his girlfriend, which only makes things messy between them. B-Rilla makes a house call at an apartment where his girlfriend Michelle lives with their baby daughter. She reminds the former inmate that he needs to step up as a dad and provide monetarily for their child.

B-Rilla Shows His True Colors as Raq Receives a Visit From a Dead Person

Kanan and Jukebox combine efforts as they try to seek revenge for Famous by taking on Freddie Wilds’ gang. They corner the boys during their casual basketball game, questioning them about who killed Famous. They express their innocence, stating that they have nothing to do with Famous’ death. However, they heard a rumor that a dirty cop had taken out Famous because the boy knew their identity. Although Jukebox is itching to pull the trigger, Kanan tells her that they may be right. They leave the site before the cops arrive. B-Rilla heads for a different part of town, where he meets up with an old associate, Kenyatta. He informs the man of a new job they could pull off together. From their conversation, the target seems to be Lou-Lou. However, it could also be Lowell or someone else.

Jessica and her mother are packing up their belongings to move out of South Jamaica for good. Before they leave, Lou-Lou stops by their place for one final meeting with Jessica, whom he hands over the necklace she left behind. Although she tries to coax him to go with her, Lou-Lou’s heart is set on his birthplace. They have an emotional parting. As we get a voiceover from a grown Kanan, Raq arrives at her house and heads over to the kitchen. However, she gets the biggest shock of her life when she discovers Unique standing in the darkness, digging nonchalantly into a tub of butter pecan ice cream. The game of playing dead is finally up for the latter as Raq finally knows Unique is alive. It will be interesting to see how she reacts when she learns the truth from him in the following episode.
