Lifetime’s ‘Married at First Sight’ took the viewers through an emotional rollercoaster with the introduction of five new couples in season 13. Among them were Rachel Gordillo and Jose San Miguel, who instantly stood out with their shared interests and immediate spark. While Rachel was tired of her bad dating luck, Joseph was also looking for someone who wanted a long-term commitment. Their wedding was filled with laughter and them vibing together, laying the foundation of hope that they might be the one of each other. Despite the initial good run, the challenges soon started to follow them, wrecking chaos and testing if their bond would last its impact.
Rachel and Jose’s Journey Was Filled With Drama and Second Chances
In the first few days, everything was sunshine and flowers for Rachel and Jose, but the storm soon started brewing when Jose’s high expectations came out in the open. They began clashing with Rachel’s initial perception of him, and she struggled to keep up with the high standards that her partner had set for her. One of the important turning points in their relationship was when she mistakenly called Jose by another name. Things went downhill when he locked Rachel out of their shared apartment late at night out of anger. This led to a major confrontation, and Rachel ended up spending the night at her ex’s house because no one else was picking up her call. However, after counseling from the show experts, they tried to communicate better. Finally, putting everyone’s speculations to an end, the couple decided to stay together and hope for a shared future.
Rachel and Jose Parted Ways After Only Eight Months of Their Marriage
After the show, Rachel and Jose soon faced the realities of merging their lives together outside the structured environment of the show. Struggling with their differences, the duo broke up several weeks after Decision Day but got back together before the reunion was filmed. They had also started planning to move in together, but their attempt to rebuild the union was short-lived. Ultimately, both of them gave in and chose to part ways after eight months of marriage. They announced their separation in December 2021, stating, “After much thought, we have decided that we are better off going our separate ways.” The former couple further expressed how it was not an easy decision for them, and they had tried their best to make their union stand firm, but in the end, this was the best decision for their future.
They also mentioned, “The MAFS journey taught us a lot about ourselves and what we both need in a partner. We are grateful to all those who stood by us throughout the last eight-plus months.” According to Rachel, it was a very positive experience for her since she gained strength and learned several things from the marriage. On the other hand, Jose did not make any comments after the divorce. From what we know, the once-duo have moved forward in completely separate paths in their life and are no longer in contact with each other.
Rachel Has Focused on Monetizing Her Passion For Travel
After her time on the show, Rachel finally set herself on a transformative journey and shifted her focus to personal growth and professional endeavors. Rachel was originally a Special Education Evaluator by profession. However, whether she returned to her job is still unclear. What we do know is that Rachel channeled her love for travel into creating Booked at First Sight, which is a blog that she has successfully monetized. Through this platform, she curates group travel experiences and shares her adventures. This initiative aimed to make travel accessible and enjoyable for the girls, and it is meticulously planned for her to various global destinations.
In November 2024, the reality TV star announced her new travel page, where she shares her travel tips, itineraries, and the future girl trips that she will be taking. According to her survey, Croatia is the next trip she will be organizing for this summer. Rachel has also garnered a massive fanbase on her Instagram account, with over 77K followers, by sharing glimpses of her trips and personal life. From her trips to the City of Love — Paris, France, to her journey in Greece, she has been living the life of her dreams. The reality TV personality appeared on ‘The Adultish Whines Podcast’ at the beginning of this year, where she talked about what life was like when she went back to the dating pool and what she looks for in a man. Following this, she was also a guest on the ‘Coffee Meets Vodka Podcast.’
In her personal life, Rachel finally found the soulmate she was looking for and hard launched her boo in January 2025. She took to her social media to share her happiness with her followers, exclaiming, “One minute I’m complaining about dating, the next I’m on an incredible first date with flowers, taking holiday road trips, and eating so many yummy meals!” The duo has been spending romantic times with her adorable pup Roy. Recently, they enjoyed long walks on a snowy day and built snowmen together, creating cherishable memories. From what we know, she has an amicable bond with her mother and also remains an active voice within the ‘MAFS’ community.
Jose is Crushing it in His Career at NASA and Actively Invests in Real Estate
After his appearance on the show, Jose completely dived deeper into his career. He is currently working as a Mission Flight Specialist at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He played a pivotal role in mission planning and equipment maintenance for the Boeing Starliner Launch, which took place in June 2024. In addition to this, he is actively involved in real estate as a flipper and investor. He closed on his fourth property in December 2023 and has been renovating it since then. In his most recent update of February 2025, the reality TV star shared the progress of renovation work on his property number 4 on his social media and further revealed how he will be doing it. He is an individual who believes in long-term investment and urges his followers to adapt to a strong business-like mind for financial independence.
From what we know, Jose is not dating anyone currently. Although in 2022, there were speculations that he was dating a mystery woman who he took as a date during a marriage ceremony, the TV star soon cleared up the air, revealing she was just a friend. He is also close to his parents and prefers to keep them beside him throughout every ups and downs of his life. When he is not working or spending time with his family, Jose prefers skiing and taking trips with his friends to the blue coastal waters of Cancun, Mexico. All in all, balancing his career at NASA and his business ventures simultaneously takes a lot of resilience, which only highlights his determination in life.
