In 2016, she was charged with an impaired driving case and, in 2018, pleaded guilty to the charges. As a result, she was sentenced to three years of probation and 100 hours of community service, received a two-year driving ban, and was fined $1,100. That same year, she also made headlines for filing a $16.5-million lawsuit against Doug Ford, Rob Ford’s elder brother and the executor of his estate.
Renata alleged that Doug had failed to properly distribute Rob’s estate between her and their children, as had been intended. The case received widespread media coverage, and as of now, there have been no public updates suggesting a resolution. In 2021, a court ordered Renata to pay nearly $300,000 to Aird & Berlis LLP, the law firm that had represented her in the lawsuit. Reports have also circulated regarding her financial difficulties, including claims that she took out two mortgages on her house.
