Revival Episode 4 Recap: Run Along Little Lamb

Episode 4 of Syfy’s supernatural thriller ‘Revival,’ titled ‘Run Along Little Lamb,’ continues its investigation into Martha “Em” Cypress’s death and revival, this time focusing on her professor, Aaron Weimar. While his affair with her has reached its end, their story is revealed to be far from over, with more than one person interested in its trajectory. The city begins to erupt in chaos, with the new policy of cataloging revivers fraying many relationships, old and new. The previous episode ends with Em’s daring leap into the water, which triggers memories of Revival Day and the people and things she encountered on the bridge. This episode continues on Em’s journey of tracing her past to figure out her present, eventually leading the cast to a showdown they are wholly unprepared for. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Blaine and The Weimars Bring More Questions Than Answers

The episode begins at the Weimar residence when Nithiya Weimar is stirred by the sound of motion inside the house. A mysterious figure lurks in the shadows, rummaging through Aaron’s drawer till they find a pen drive. Nithiya slumps into the room, calling for her husband, but freezes at the sight of the intruder zipping past the door. The pen drive is then left in the car of May Tao, the amateur journalist who has been documenting and investigating the revivers since the very first scene of the show. The scene then cuts to a dimly lit room, with its only highlight being a pinboard full of newspaper cutouts about the death of Rose Blackdeer, a student. The camera then pans to Em’s missing oxycodone bottle, implying that its present holder, a person who appears to have significant facial deformities, is directly linked to her murder on Revival Day.

Following this, Dana reunites with her sister after days of no contact and finds her in a relationship with Rhodey. That’s not all, with Nella, the pub owner, recovering the cellphone that Em boldly throws away in episode 2, Dana now learns of another secret: her sister’s relationship with her professor, Weimar, which she chalks off as a stint. The conversation then takes a more pressing turn as Em shares the memories she has newly retrieved of meeting Blaine on the bridge that night. Without wasting time, Dana prepares to head out and ask questions directly, only to be stalked by Em and Rhodey. The trio makes it to the junkyard where Blaine resides and confronts him directly about his activity on that fateful night.

Here, Blaine gives his account of the night, claiming that he was at Bull Falls merely to tow off a vehicle from private property. He further adds that his search for the car is what led him to the bridge, where he met Em and presumed her to be a junkie before leaving., He explains to the cop that he found the car, hitched it back to Alonzo’s, and left the forest, but not before witnessing something supernatural. At this moment, the conversation takes a turn when he describes witnessing a bright flash of light followed by an explosion. However, Em doesn’t recall any such event and instead believes that he is lying. Her belief is stunted by the police legwork that Dana has to do before putting the town hero behind bars. As the sisters head back with Rhodey, Blaine warns them that the end times are near.

The Social Structure of Wasau Changes Forever

Back home, Em and Rhodey have yet another surprise visitor, this time the former’s father, Wayne. The town Sheriff expresses his shock and disappointment regarding his daughter having a reviver partner before asking for Rhodey’s ID and stamping it. The Governor’s new mandate requires that every reviver be tagged and cataloged, with the unruly ones being sent to secure facilities. Wayne’s disapproval doesn’t end there, as he reminds his daughter of the bar fight she participated in recently. Wayne uses his influence to trim down the police complaint against his daughter to twenty hours of therapy, which she’s forced to attend. There, Em sees a familiar face: Nithiya Weimar. As a therapist, she proves to be very understanding, as she knows Em’s true nature, which is revealed to her by Aaron.

Meanwhile, the mystery about revivers and their place in society continues to deepen as mysterious phenomena take root. While playing camp with Jordan, Cooper hears strange voices outside his tent, seemingly coming from the glowing bodies hovering around them. The voice is vaguely reminiscent of the one he hears in episode 2, after getting lost in the woods. However, it disappears just as quickly as it arrived, leaving the children perplexed. Elsewhere, the adults find themselves equally confused as Wayne learns that the Mayor’s wife, Diane, is a reviver who wishes to keep her name off the list. When he denies, quoting his commitment to the people, she reminds him of the favour he owes to her family, as they were the ones who kept the Cypresses afloat following the death of Dana’s mother.

The Cypress Sisters Figure Out A Key Figure in the Mystery

Elsewhere, Dana’s investigations lead her to Alonzo’s, an auto rental shop run by an eccentric man. While he has the records of the rental history, tying the car to a man named James Anderson, the officer’s request for a Driver’s License faces silence, as Alonzo admits to looking the other way when his clients offer more money. With less-than-optimal leads, Dana begins searching the car inside and out, finally finding a clue: an old parking ticket for Wasau General Memorial Hospital, which becomes her next destination. While screening through the list of people registered for the day, she comes across the name of Aaron Weimar, quickly realizing that he is using the hospital visit as an alibi for his actions on revival day.

Em comes to a similar conclusion independently, though her journey to the truth is much different. While she is spending time with Rhodey, another wave of memories is triggered, this time distinctly remembering a hand restraining her till she is knocked unconscious. In the ensuing scuffle, she swallows her attacker’s ring, only to vomit it out as a reviver. With the ring’s importance confirmed, the teenager duo hops through pawn shops and ringmakers, looking for an exact match. They find success at a pawn shop that operated illegally during the quarantine period for the special commission of finding a ring’s duplicate, earning double. Upon inquiry, the name James Anderson comes up yet again, but this time, Em reveals that it is the name of Aaron’s teaching assistant, whom he is using as a cover.

Dana’s Night Out Takes a Dark Turn

Frustrated by the turn of events and the eventual betrayal, Em undergoes a physical transformation, cutting off her hair to represent a pivot in her mentality. The new Em yearns for answers and revenge, and decides to find them on her own, rejecting Rhodey’s support.  Meanwhile, Aaron struggles with his own share of problems, at once being actively targeted by three other people. Dana, the journalist, May Tao, and a mysterious phone caller, who keeps reminding him of the shady things he has been involved in. Aaron claps back, stating that he has enough knowledge of things to be a trouble to all, and that getting him in trouble will bring the whole operation down. Failing to realize that he is inviting doom to himself, Aaron tries to placate his wife, promising that it will all disappear.

The scene shifts away from Wasau’s borders, where Anthony Check calls his brothers, informing them of his boss’s new business venture, for which he has to find a way back in town. Elsewhere, Dana tries to find some respite amidst her busy schedule through a date with Ibrahim. The two drive out to their location, engaging in friendly banter and casual flirtation along the way, till she receives a message from Weimar inviting her to the woods, where he promises to reveal the truth. This comes as his last resort to protect his wife after he is seemingly betrayed by his partner in crime and forced to hide in the woods. Ibrahim, while confused by the sudden change in plans, tags along, and the two reach their destination. Dana reveals the gun hidden inside her skirt and charges ahead without a word of explanation.

A Mystery Assassin Bears Their Fangs

In the meantime, Em’s plans reach fruition as she successfully tails Aaron all the way to the forest, where she finally confronts him. From the get-go, she acts aggressively, demanding to know the truth. As her former professor begins to make his case, Em loses her patience and begins to choke him. However, she quickly comes to her senses when he pleads to her that he is not her murderer. The truth seems to be on the cusp of revelation when Aaron is shot dead by someone in the forest. She crouches near his body, visibly shaken at the death of someone she cares about deeply. At the same time, Dana makes her way to the commotion and finds her sister embroiled in a disastrous scenario yet again. Before Dana has time to process things, however, she sees a bullet zip through Em, eventually finding its way into her body instead.

Dana collapses, while the reviver teen, already healed, seems to retain her composure barely. She takes her sister’s gun and shoots at the assassin — who appears to be the same person with facial deformity as in the beginning — managing to injure his arm and forcing him to retreat. As Dana barely seems to hold on to life, her sister desperately screams for help. The episode, as such, ends on a cliffhanger. Due to the forest being such a potent location in the narrative, several possibilities arise. While it is likely that Ibrahim comes to their rescue, the stage is also set for the return of the incorporeal beings of light. The town’s future remains in the air as Blaine’s faction gains power and ammunition, targeting innocent revivers. With a new player in town and Dana’s best shot at figuring out the mystery seemingly a dead-end, her journey becomes exponentially more challenging.
