Where Are Rex Heuermann’s Kids Now?

As a docuseries directed by Liz Garbus, Netflix’s ‘Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer’ gives us a complete insight into arguably the most harrowing string of murders in recent years. That’s because it underlines not just the way this entire case of possibly 11+ victims came to light with a possibly unrelated disappearance but also how the accused managed to hide in plain sight for nearly two decades. This suspected monster is none other than Long Island native Rex Andrew Heuermann, a now-disgraced architect, entertainment enthusiast, and father of two — a stepson and daughter.

Rex Heuermann Was Once a Proud Family Man

While it’s unclear precisely when Rex Heuermann first came across Icelandic native Asa Ellerup, we do know they reportedly fell head over heels in love long before they tied the knot in April 1996. The truth is Asa already had a son named Christopher Sheridan with developmental disabilities from her previous marriage, yet the entrepreneur didn’t even bat an eyelash at it and chose to raise him as his own with open arms. Then, a few years later, the couple blissfully welcomed a daughter by the name of Victoria Heuermann into their world and knew their young family was finally complete.

As per records, Christopher and Victoria always believed they hailed from a perfectly ordinary household, so their father’s arrest on suspicion of being a serial killer turned their whole world around. When it happened in July 2023, the young adults still lived at their Massapequa Park childhood home alongside their parents, so it affected every aspect of their lifestyle, even if they weren’t physically there that fateful day. After all, their residence has since been subject to many investigative searches and hounded by journalists hoping to get some answers about how Rex could have lived a double life — one as a family man and allegedly one as a merciless serial killer — for so long.

Christopher and Victoria Have Maintained They Had No Idea of Their Father’s Alleged Offenses

Not long after Rex was taken into custody as the alleged Long Island Serial Killer, his wife filed for divorce, and his adult child hired renowned New York attorney Vess Mitev as their legal counsel. This indicated they wanted to remain as far away as possible from any sense of criminality and the ensuing public proceedings, but then Asa publicly stated she didn’t believe her husband could have done something so heinous. As if that’s not enough, she and Victoria have even shown up to support him during some of his court hearings, which has only raised eyebrows regarding precisely where they stand, especially since the divorce was recently finalized without any issues.

As for Christopher and Victoria’s standing on the matter, Vess told Newsweek in 2024 that they are just “caught in the crosshairs of this deeply unfortunate case that they have nothing to do with, other than they are related to Mr. Rex Heuermann… (It is a) very, very dark time in their lives.” It’s also imperative to note that while Asa’s, as well as Victoria’s DNA, was reportedly found on/near a victim of the Gilgo Beach killings, authorities have never believed that they were involved. That’s because Asa and both her kids were vacationing out of state every single time these brutal killings are believed to have occurred, with Rex almost always joining them roughly a week later.

Christopher and Victoria are Seemingly Trying to Settle Into Their New Normal

Although the initial few months following Rex’s arrest were undeniably hard for the entire family, Asa actually told the New York Post that her kids have arguably been suffering the most. “My children cry themselves to sleep,” she said. “I mean, they’re not children. They’re grown adults, but they’re my children… (My son, in particular, is) so distraught and doesn’t understand, and as a mother, I have no answers for him.” As if that’s not enough, Vess later stated the public scrutiny was also getting to both Christopher and Victoria, especially since they often can’t even step outside without having their photos taken or catcalled, and the latter was allegedly even struggling with landing a job.

As per reports, Victoria worked at her father’s architecture consulting business in New York City before his arrest, which resulted in it having to close its doors for good, and she subsequently had trouble getting a job. However, from what we can tell, she has since spread her wings as a Fine Arts graduate from the New York Institute of Technology and is now trying to evolve into a Digital Art and Design/Motion Capture professional. Coming to Christopher, he is currently a proud member of the live, touring band Mayhem Long Island, which comprises a group of friends with disabilities who have found music to be the perfect outlet to express themselves. As for their living situation, it appears as if both siblings still reside in their Massapequa Park childhood home alongside their mother to have their support system by their side.
