The war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons comes to a head in the final episode of Paramount+’s ‘MobLand.’ At the end of the penultimate episode, Conrad and Maeve Harrigan are arrested and thrown into prison, which leaves their family in disarray, or so their enemies think. While the couple settles into their prison cells, Kevin and Harry Da Souza jump into action to contain the situation and save themselves before things get worse. Their most immediate threat is Richie Stevenson, who has been waiting his turn to decimate the Harrigans. With the revelation of his mole, O’Hara Delaney, Harry finally has the opportunity to set things right. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Harry Uses O’Hara to Get to Richie
At the beginning of ‘MobLand,’ it is known that there is a rat amongst the Harrigans. Harry finally discovers their identity through Richie’s fixer, Freddie, whom he immediately kills upon discovery. The reason behind it was so that Freddie wouldn’t let Richie know that his secret is out. This turns out to be a good move as it gives no reason for Stevenson to doubt his rat, O’Hara Delaney, and Harry can use it to turn the tide in favour of the Harrigans.
With Maeve and Conrad in prison, Harry confronts O’Hara about her actions. Instead of killing her, which is what Conrad would have done, he asks her to set up a meeting with Richie. By this time, he has thought through all the possibilities, including the one where O’Hara betrays him, so he asks her to go forward with this scenario in order to convince Richie that she, truly, has jumped ship. Convinced that the remaining Harrigans are ready to be killed, Richie sends half his men to O’Hara’s office and the other half to the safe house where Bella, Eddie, Seraphina, Jan, and Gina are hiding.
What Richie doesn’t know is that Harry already has both places covered in anticipation of Richie’s goons. He has his office rigged with a bomb, which goes off when Richie’s men are in place. This part is overseen by Paul. The responsibility of the safe house falls on Kiko and Zosia, who evacuate the place as Richie’s men swarm the building. Once the Harrigans and the Da Souzas are safe, Kiko and Zosia throw a bomb in the house and shoot up every single one of Richie’s men. This leaves Richie undefended at the Sinful Monkey, where Kevin and Harry march in guns blazing.
Richie and O’Hara’s Death Marks the End of the Season-Long Conflict for the Harrigans
When Richie realises that he has been betrayed by O’Hara, he uses her as a shield to protect himself. He believes that because the lawyer has switched sides to help the Harrigans, she must be valuable to them. What he doesn’t realise is that she has served her purpose, which means she is entirely disposable. So, when he uses her as the shield, she, too, gets shot and is thrown out of the way. This gives Kevin the opportunity to shoot down the mortal enemy of his family, especially avenging his brother Brendan. He looks Richie in the eye, tells him the Harrigans say hi, and shoots him in the head. This permanently ends the violent chapter between the Harrigans and the Stevensons.
As for O’Hara, she is shocked to have been shot so easily. She thought that siding with Harry would save her, but she has to pay for her actions. Moreover, because she betrayed them once, it was possible that she would do it again. This kind of infractions couldn’t go unpunished, especially with the new order emerging within the Harrigan clan. For this, they can only have trustworthy people around, and O’Hara is not one of them anymore. So, while Kevin takes care of Richie, Harry walks up to an injured O’Hara and kills her while she is still processing what has happened to her.
