Romantic scams often involve deception, where individuals fabricate stories to exploit their partners emotionally and financially. Ricky Morrisey faced similar accusations when his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Phillips, claimed he misled her about his life and took thousands of dollars under false pretenses. These allegations were later echoed by another woman and he was charged with fraud. In Netflix’s ‘Love Con Revenge,’ both women came forward to detail their experiences and the incidents involving him.
Ricky Morrisey Reportedly Took Money From His Ex-Girlfriend Under False Pretenses
Bridget Phillips recounted that she met Ricky Morrisey on a dating app, where he told her he had served 10 years in the Army. She said he claimed his dog, Zeus, had been with him throughout his service and that he had lost a close friend, Clarence Williams, in Afghanistan. According to Bridget, Ricky told her Clarence had taken a bullet for him during an excursion and died as a result. He also said he had been sending money to Clarence’s family but struggled to continue due to his own challenges, including PTSD from his time in the force and difficulty holding a job.
Three months into their relationship, Bridget and Ricky decided to move in together, and at first, everything seemed to be going well. However, Bridget soon discovered she was in significant debt and noticed her bank account had been drained, despite not recalling any major expenses. When she asked Ricky if he had used her card, she said he denied it but suspected he was involved. The confrontation led to an argument, and she eventually asked him to leave her home. After tallying the losses, including money she had sent to Clarence’s family, Bridget realized she was out more than $25,000. That’s when she reached out to Cecilie Fjellhoy, who had been defrauded by the Tinder Swindler and had since been helping other victims.
Cecilie’s investigation revealed that Ricky had only served in the Army for three years, not a decade as he claimed and he never had a dog by his side during that time. It was also stated on the show that Clarence’s family confirmed that Ricky didn’t know him closely and had never sent any money to his family. To warn others, Cecilie posted his picture in a Facebook group, asking if any women recognized him. That’s when Jeannie O’Donnell came forward, alleging she had also given Ricky thousands of dollars and felt swindled. She alleged Ricky told her that his then-girlfriend, Bridget, had kicked him out, but he denied any wrongdoing and claimed he was just trying to start over.
