Ron Logan: What Happened to the Delphi Suspect?

In February 2017, the entire community of Delphi, Indiana, was rocked to its core when two teenagers — Abigail Williams and Liberty German — went missing after going for a walk, only for their remains to be found the following day near the Monon High Bridge. The killings led to a five-year investigation, during which the detectives suspected and questioned multiple individuals residing in and around the city. One of the suspects was a 77-year-old man named Ronald Logan. ABC’s ‘Capturing Their Killer: The Girls on the High Bridge’ explores the case and how the detectives suspected Ron of the murders.

The Remains of Abby Williams and Libby German Were Found on Ron Logan’s Property

Born around 1940, Ronald “Ron” Logan was embroiled in the murder investigation of Libby German and Abby Williams as their remains were discovered in the wooded area of his property, which was located along Deer Creek and east of the Monon High Bridge. In the days that followed, several tipsters claimed that the “bridge man” was Ron. Furthermore, a couple of his former girlfriends also told the authorities that he had been violent towards them, to the point that he had allegedly threatened to kill them. On February 15, 2017, he was interviewed by the Journal & Courier and asked about the situation. He stated, “To have anyone murdered on your property…I don’t know what my feelings are right now. It caught me by surprise.” He also claimed to have known the families of the two deceased girls.

He added, “My kids grew up in this area. He went back there with his schoolmates. They went back there fishing and playing in the creek. Grace of God, it didn’t happen to them.” More suspicious details about Ron emerged when his cousin claimed that Ron had asked him to tell the police that he had picked Ron up at his house between 2:00 and 2:30 pm on the afternoon of February 13, 2017, to visit an aquarium store in Lafayette. When the detectives went through Ron’s cell phone records, they learned that he had been in the area where the remains were found on the fateful day. It turned out that he drove his truck in a drunken state to the landfill that morning. Thus, on March 16, 2017, the 77-year-old man was arrested for violating his probation from a 2014 drunk driving case. He was also charged with being a habitual traffic violator.

Ron Logan Allegedly Confessed to Killing Abby And Libby While Serving Time For an Unrelated Charge

Eventually, Ron Logan pleaded guilty to both the charges against him and the violation of his probation. Thus, he was sentenced to two years in prison. After a few months, his prison sentence was modified to in-home detention. Although he was released from prison in January 2018, he allegedly gave a chilling confession about the murders of Abby and Libby to a fellow inmate named Ricci Davis at the New Castle Correctional Facility. In May 2017, Ricci got in touch with the authorities and claimed that Ron had admitted to killing the teenage girls. A month later, he also wrote a statement regarding the same.

It read, “Mr. Logan has made reference to the killings in Delphi, IN. He told me he was the one who had killed those girls, that it got out of hand. He walked with them in the woods to his property & the girls wanted to turn back. Said something about walking the —, he grabbed the youngest girl to reassure her it was ok, however they panicked and he also panicked. He indicated he ended up cutting the oldest with a box cutter. He went on telling me that he killed both of them because it was took too far.” After allegedly committing the murders, Ricci claimed that Ron told him that he returned to the crime scene later in the evening and tried to move Libby’s remains so that they would not be found.

Ron also allegedly took care of the evidence by burning the clothes he was wearing that day. What made him a suspect in the case was that his supposed confession consisted of details that were not made public at the time. Ron’s alleged claims of moving Libby’s remains were in line with the claims of a crime scene reconstructionist, who concluded that Libby’s remains were dragged to the site where they were ultimately found. All these allegations and claims became the defense of Richard Allen, who ended up being convicted of the murders. In 2025, his defense counsel focused on Ron’s supposed confession while they appealed Richard’s conviction and sentencing. However, by then, Ron Logan had already passed away from COVID-19 back in January 2022.
