Netflix’s ‘Unlocked: A Jail Experiment’ offers an unfiltered look into the lives of incarcerated individuals, focusing not just on the system but also on the personal stories and struggles of the inmates themselves. The series highlights how responsibility and trust can reshape behavior inside jail walls. In season two, one of the standout figures was Ronald Dunmire, widely known by his nickname “All Out,” or simply “AO.” Although he was removed from the experiment early on, he was given a chance to return. Rejoining with renewed commitment, AO approached the process with sincerity, demonstrating emotional growth, accountability, and progress.
Ronald Dunmire AKA All Out Was Committed to Improving Himself
When the experiment began, viewers learned that Ronald “AO” Dunmire’s criminal history stretched back many years. In 2006, he was convicted of aggravated assault and theft, receiving separate sentences of two and a half years and one year. More than a decade later, in 2018, he was arrested again on charges that included aggravated assault, trespassing, and weapons misconduct after an incident in which he allegedly struck someone and took their firearm. Court records show he received sentences of 13 years, along with additional shorter terms, and in 2023, he got another one-year sentence following an assault while incarcerated. Given his disciplinary and criminal history, he was later housed in a maximum-security facility.
After reentering the program, Dunmire committed himself to change. He spoke openly about growing up in a volatile environment and not knowing any better as a young man. He shared that he once built a family, married, and raised four children, but after his marriage ended following 12 years together, he felt he had lost everything and struggled with anger. The program helped him refocus, and he began encouraging others. He even started an informal physical fitness session to steer younger inmates away from conflict, and it was quite a success. On the final day before Sheriff Ross Teeple made his decision, Ronald spoke out in favor of the program and urged him to keep it on. His behavior, along with that of others, became one of the key factors that contributed to the experiment’s success.

Ronald Dunmire has since been transferred and is currently incarcerated at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Yuma, located in San Luis, Arizona, where he is serving the remainder of his sentence. Since April 2025, his institutional record has reflected a sustained and deliberate effort to remain on a constructive path, characterized by consistent program participation, work assignments, and faith-based involvement. Beginning in April 2025, Dunmire engaged in Juma’ah prayer services and enrolled in New Beginnings Through Peers, a program he would return to repeatedly over the months, completing multiple cycles between April and December 2025. By June 2025, he expanded his focus to practical skill-building through Construction Technology – Basic, followed by masonry work from September to November 2025.
During this period, he also completed Wildland Fire Crew Training in August and September 2025, signaling a willingness to take on demanding and service-oriented roles. The final months of 2025 show heightened momentum. In October 2025, Dunmire completed Life Skills training while continuing peer-led rehabilitation programs. By December 2025, he had completed Outpatient Treatment and another full New Beginnings Through Peers course. Entering January 2026, he began a new work assignment as a Groundskeeper. Alongside vocational and rehabilitative efforts, Dunmire remains engaged with chaplain services and religious observance throughout this time. His current release date is set for November 4, 2030, as he continues serving his sentence while maintaining involvement in structured programs and work assignments.
