Screen Skinz Shark Tank Update: Custom Designed Screen Protectors

In an age when smartphones, tablets, and laptops are almost an extension of our identity, protecting those screens is about both durability and personal style. Individuals now want their devices to stand out while still performing at their best. Although achieving that balance is usually hard, Screen Skinz has tried to provide a solution. They have made screen protectors that not only guard against scratches and cracks but also reflect individuality through patented technology. That innovative concept caught the public’s attention when its two founders appeared on season 17, episode 10 of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank.’ Their pitch highlighted that personalization and protection can coexist.

Screen Skinz: Who Are They and What Do They Do?

The journey of Screen Skinz began with its two founders, Clay Canning and RaShaun Brown. The former has always been a natural entrepreneur, and it all started when he earned his high school diploma with a focus on Business at George W. Jenkins High School. He then enrolled at Polk State College to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management, eventually graduating in 2019. Even while attending college, Clay began selling screen protectors on Amazon, which sparked the idea for Screen Skinz. He realized that screen protection had always been a simple, functional product that didn’t make one’s phone feel personal. Inspired by that gap, Clay came up with a screen protector with a customized tattoo for one’s device.

With that vision, Clay launched Screen Skinz from his parents’ laundry room in Florida in July 2018. The brand’s technology is currently patented in the US, and the patent applications in Germany, China, Mexico, and the UK are still pending. Since December 2024, Clay has also taken on the role of Advisor at Wateryway Warriors. RaShaun became the co-founder of the brand in December 2022. His path began with academics as he graduated from Westerville Central High School in 2011 before pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Sports Sciences and Sports Management at Ohio University. Before graduating in 2016, RaShaun focused entirely on improving his sales skills through the Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Center. He ultimately attained a Master of Sports Administration from Ohio University in 2018.

During his time there, RaShaun began his career as the Multicultural Center Administrative Assistant in January 2012. At Ohio University, he also became the Men’s Basketball Manager before leaving those positions in March and May 2016, respectively. Simultaneously, RaShaun worked in several minor roles, including a Sales Associate at Verizon from March to December of 2014 and a Director of Partnerships for the Southern Ohio Copperheads from May to August of 2015. While working there, he also joined Russell Athletic as a Marketing Intern in March 2015, before moving on in June 2016. Moreover, RaShaun honed his skills at PepsiCo as a Gatorade representative from January to March 2016.

In August 2016, RaShaun took on the role of Basketball Operations Assistant at the BIG EAST Conference and served there until July 2017. Following that, he became the College of Business Executive Education Graduate Assistant at the AECOM Center for Sports Administration at Ohio University. Three months after leaving that position in May 2018, RaShaun joined RMBrown Ventures as a Principal and remained there until December 2020. During his time at the previous organization, he was also appointed as the Account Executive as well as Sales Development Officer at 12th Man Foundation in June 2018. There, RaShaun’s dedication paid off, as he was promoted to the Development and Annual Fund (PAFI) professional and Senior Account Executive, alongside the Sales and Development Officer.

RaShaun left the roles in December 2022, before assuming the position of Business Development Advisor at Keyscaper, where he served until December 2023. As of writing, Screen Skinz sells customizable, officially licensed screen protectors for popular brands. Each of their products features their disappearing design technology- meaning their custom artwork is visible when the screen is off but vanishes when it is turned on. Additionally, their screen protectors are scratch-resistant and made from 0.33 mm tempered glass. The brand also offers touchscreen-friendly responsiveness, shatter protection, and easy installation. Their custom designs are integrated directly into the glass, boasting a 9H hardness rating. The customers are also provided with an installation tray.

Some of those creators include Marlene (hk.fairyy) and Ladonna (ladonnascores). By March 2025, Screen Skinz began selling their Sanrio-themed screen protectors. By September 2025, the brand had focused on the customized protectors for every NFL team. It even led them to collaborate with the renowned athlete Cam Jordan in that very same month. In November, Screen Skinz ran an ultimate fan giveaway that ended on December 13th. The winner of the giveaway received a customized protector of their choice and a $150 Fanatics gift card. In December 2025, the brand announced the release of a surprise Sanrio design for Christmas. As they continue receiving numerous positive reviews from users, it has become clear that they have succeeded in transforming screen protection into a form of self-expression.
