Se Young Metzroth, an interesting cast member of season 1, participated not just to compete but to play the game with strategy and heart. Se Young Metzroth’s Had an Emotional Run on the Show
From the moment Se Young Metzroth stepped into the game, she knew that it would push her out of her comfort zone. She initially called herself a “nerd” and hoped that she could bring her social side out so that she could bond with the other competitors. When she received her box for the first time, she expressed she did not want the pressure of having a million dollars in her box. Instead, Se Young completely focused on genuine interactions. One of her most noticeable connections in the show is with Lauren Jean. They became quite close early on and often even exchanged strategies with each other.
When Lauren gave Se Young the nickname “smarty-pants,” she became shy and denied being one. Apart from this, she embraced the first two activities of the show wholeheartedly and made sure to make the most of her time. Everything was going well until things took a turn when Phil accused her during breakfast. He questioned her strategies and called her manipulative. As the suspicion of the other competitors grew, she became one of the primary targets. Although Lydia defended her, she ended up getting betrayed by Lauren. As she tearfully stepped forward to her exit, she left them with a heartfelt message that she believed in them. She was confident that they would eventually find who the millionaire was.
Se Young is a Prominent Figure in the Video Game Research Field
Se Young’s journey from film studies to the world of video game research was nothing short of fascinating. Her path began after she graduated from Troy High School in 2007 before enrolling at UC Santa Barbara in the same year. She pursued her Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies from here and gained a deep understanding of media, production, and film theory. After her graduation in 2011, she finally stepped into the professional world. Her first role was as an Apple Specialist, where her role was to repair and troubleshoot iPhones and iPads. Although this seemed to be completely unrelated to her degree, this role gave her valuable technical skills.
Se Young worked here from February to July 2011 before moving on to a more film-focused role as a Director’s Assistant to the acclaimed filmmaker Park Chan-Wook. Here, she interpreted and translated onset communications, scripts, and other materials. Besides this, she also had to manage the Director’s appointments and meeting schedules. She worked in this position until October of the same year before taking on a new challenge in January 2012. She started out as a Freelance Projectionist at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Here, her role mainly entailed working with different media formats and preparing trailers and videos in Betacam and DG beta formats.
This lasted only for two months, and Se Young ended up leaving the position in February 2012. Her career took a major shift after this. In May, she joined VGM as a Project Manager. This marked a milestone in her life because it kicked off her long-term career in Video Games Research and Market Analysis. Over the years, she has proved her expertise in Project Management and Data Analysis and has become a valuable part of the company. Her dedication and skillset ultimately led to her promotion to Vice President of Research in June 2015. From there, Se Young only experience an upward trajectory in her research. In January 2020, she was promoted to Vice President of Global Systems, which further solidified her role in this field.
Se Young Often Indulges in Volunteering and is an Avid Gaming Enthusiast
Besides this, Se Young has always been actively involved in volunteering activities. She was a volunteer at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA from February 2013 to December 2013. Here, she actively helped the shelter dogs to gain a healthy living via exercises and also helped to socialize them. This solely channeled her focus on animal welfare. After a while, she moved on as an Admin Volunteer and foster parent at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in March 2015. She has been actively fostering rescued dogs for this facility before they find their forever home. The 35-year-old also provides time for the furry pups to adjust to living in a home, helping them with good manners.
Beyond this, Young’s love for video games has proved to be more than just a career for her. It is something that has naturally made its way into her personal life. From a very young age, she has found joy in exploring the new digital world. She has always been eager to experience something that she had never played before. Even now, it does not matter whether she’s playing Stardew Valley on her Nintendo Switch after a long day or immersing herself in the latest video games for her market research. Her enthusiasm remains completely the same. Se Young not only does it from a professional viewpoint but truly dives into the experience and enjoys it. She also loves playing board games, which further highlights her strategic mindset.
Se Young Has Been Happily Married For Over Seven Years
Apart from her thriving career, Se Young has built a beautiful and fulfilling personal life. Her love story began several years ago with her partner Alex, and from there, the pair’s journey has been nothing short of a dream. As the love between them slowly grew, they realized that they would be able to live without each other. Finally, in December 2017, the duo shared their vows to stay together forever. Whether it be spending magical moments together on their trip or attending a close wedding together, they never fail to cherish every moment they spend together. Furthermore, her furry little pup, Pickle, has filled their life with happiness and love beyond measure. Se Young and the love of her life purchased their five-bedroom home in 2024 and absolutely had a blast working on its renovation. However, they faced just a small hiccup when she chose the wrong color for the house.
Besides this, Se Young fosters a close relationship with her father and mother. The family often spends time together, going out on dinners and making cherishable memories. Over the years, she has been featured on several podcasts, like SeeJurassicRight in August 2017, and she appeared on The Sporkful with her partner in July 2018. Besides this, she is a bibliophile and often finds herself lost in the world of the pages. From maintaining a strict workout routine to being a fan of music, she has been truly making the most of her life. Above everything, Se Young is a big Swifty at her core and visited the Eras Tour in August 2023. Here, she shared a lifetime of memories with her friends and will forever hold the friendship bracelets she received close to her heart.
