Seth Odom’s Remains Were Found by Strangers on the Side of the Road
On the morning of December 4, 2022, around 10 am, the police responded to reports of human remains discovered near Burge and Reyer Road in rural Pearl River County, Mississippi. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a plastic truck toolbox containing the remains. Given the severity of the situation, the investigators decided it would be best to transport the toolbox to a controlled environment for further examination. Arrangements were swiftly made to move it to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Biloxi for a thorough investigation. Due to the dismembered state of the body, identifying the victim posed a challenge. They collaborated closely with the medical examiner’s office, using available evidence to piece together the victim’s identity. Through careful analysis of the tattoos on the remains and cross-referencing with images from social media, authorities were able to conclude that the remains belonged to 24-year-old Seth Odom.
What was particularly surprising in Seth’s case was that no one had reported him missing. Following the discovery of his remains, an autopsy was conducted, revealing that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head. After the killing, his body had been dismembered in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime. Alongside tattoo identification, investigators also used fingerprint analysis to conclusively confirm Seth’s identity. Despite the thorough forensic work, details about the perpetrator remain unknown. Law enforcement has not disclosed any suspects or leads to the public.
