The filming of Shabana Azmi-starrer film ‘Turmeric’ is all set to begin this month in Glasgow, Scotland. While the plot details have been kept under wraps, the project is said to be a drama film.
Glasgow, where the shoot is going to commence, is considered an ideal location for filming because of its modern cityscape and historic buildings. The city’s unique architectural marvels make it easy for filmmakers to capture various ambiances and settings. Hence, the production of several films has taken place in the city, including ‘The Flash,’ ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ ‘The Batman,’ ‘World War Z,’ ‘Fast & Furious 6,’ and ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.’ Several television shows were also shot in Glasgow, including ‘Outlander,’ ‘Trust Me,’ and ‘The A List.’
As of now, only Shabana Azmi has been revealed to be a part of the film’s cast. Azmi is an acclaimed Indian actress known for her work in both Hindi-language and international productions. She features as Admiral Margaret Parangosky in Paramount+’s sci-fi series ‘Halo.’ The actress is also known for her appearances in John Schlesinger’s ‘Madame Sousatzka,’ Roland Joffe’s ‘City of Joy,’ Blake Edwards’ ‘Son of the Pink Panther,’ Shekhar Kapur’s ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’ and Nicolas Klotz’s ‘The Bengali Night.’ Azmi has earned several accolades for her stellar performances over the years and is a five-time winner of India’s National Film Award for Best Actress, specifically for her performances in ‘Ankur,’ ‘Arth,’ ‘Khandhar,’ ‘Paar,’ and ‘Godmother.’
The writer and director of the film have not been announced as of now. However, it is known that the project is produced by Parag Sankhe under the banner of Square Elephant Productions, along with Anand Surve. Sankhe is a London-based producer known for his work on the TV series ‘Sister Boniface Mysteries.’ He shared the news of his collaboration with Azmi in a social media post in March 2022 and wrote, “New beginnings as a producer with the legendary Shabana Azmi. You can see #shabanaazmi in a new upcoming Steven Kane & Steven Spielberg’s #Halo Season 1 (24th March). And in Shekhar Kapur’s film ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It?’ starring Lily James and Emma Thompson. So excited.”
