10 Funny Shows Like Tires You Must See

From the minds of Shane Gillis, Steve Gerben, and John McKeever, the Netflix show ‘Tires’ revolves around Valley Forge Automotive Center, a struggling auto-repair chain that is inherited by Will (Gerben). Dedicating himself to breathe life back into business, he has to endure incessant torture from his cousin and employee, Shane (Shane Gillis), who undermines his authority at every opportunity. The office comedy drama hinges on the dynamic between co-workers cum friends and family. If it managed to get you hooked, here are some more shows similar to ‘Tires’ that you can consider for your next binge.

10. Unstable (2023-2024)

Real-life father-son duo Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe share the same relationship in ‘Unstable,’ which they created along with Victor Fresco. The story centers around a biotechnology company called Dragon, whose eccentric CEO, Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe), is going through a tough time following the death of his wife. To help him out, his socially awkward son Jackson (John Owen Lowe) joins the company. The workplace comedy focusing on family relationships brings a vibe similar to tires.

9. The Office (2005-2013)

When it comes to workplace comedy, few shows hold the legendary status enjoyed by ‘The Office,’ created by Greg Daniels based on the BBC series of the same name by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It chronicles the everyday work lives of the employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The team is led by Michael Scott (Steve Carell), a brilliant salesman who became the playful and seemingly immature Regional Manager very early in his career.

The power-hungry Assistant to the Regional Manager Dwight Shrute (Rainn Wilson), salesman and prankster Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), and receptionist Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) are among the leading characters in the show. As in ‘Tires,’ the characters of ‘The Office’ get comfortable with each other over time. The relationship between Shane and Will in the former show is comparable to the one between Jim and Dwight in the latter.

8. Workaholics (2011-2017)

‘Workaholic’ tells the story of three college friends, Blake Henderson (Blake Anderson), Adam DeMamp (Adam DeVine), and Anders ‘Ders’ Holmvik (Anders Holm), who drop out of school but continue the lifestyle. The trio shares a house in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and works in the same cubicle at the telemarketing company TelAmeriCorp. Created by Anderson, DeVine, and Holm along with Kyle Newacheck, the friends in the show are essentially family, with their dynamics bringing to mind what the co-workers share in ‘Tires.’

7. A.P. Bio (2018-2021)

Created by Mike O’Brien, ‘A.P. Bio’ revolves around Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton), a disgraced Harvard philosophy professor who is forced to move back into his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. He takes up the job of an advanced placement biology teacher at Whitlock High School to pay his bill, while sincerely believing that he is better than this and planning to move out at the earliest opportunity. As Patton initially makes it clear to his students that he does not care for their welfare, the school’s principal, Ralph Durbin (Patton Oswalt), tries his best to reel his staff member in. While the center of work shifts from a tire store to the school, Jack’s attitude is very similar to Shane’s in ‘Tires.’

6. American Auto (2021-2023)

From the mind of Justin Spitzer, ‘American Auto’ explores the workings of the Detroit automobile company, Payne Motors, where Katherine Hastings (Ana Gasteyer) has been newly appointed as CEO. Unfortunately for the other employees, she is only a corporate shark who is used to jumping industries and has no knowledge about cars. Under her leadership, the company starts to struggle, a fate similar to what befalls Valley Forge Automotive Center when helmed by Will in ‘Tires’.

5. Corporate (2018-2020)

Set in the fictional multinational company Hampton DeVille, ‘Corporate’ follows the life of junior executives-in-training Matt Engelbertson (Matt Ingebretson) and Jake Levinson (Jake Weisman). Grinding through their everyday workload under the tyrannical CEO Christian DeVille (Lance Reddick), the duo overcomes one catastrophe after another. Their only source of comfort in the toxic workplace is the human resources rep, Grace Ramaswamy (Aparna Nancherla). The tumultuous work tackled by Matt and Jake resembles what the group of employees in ‘Tires’ go through every day.

4. Blockbuster (2022)

From the mind of Vanessa Ramos, ‘Blockbuster’ presents a fictional account of the functioning of the last multimedia brand store in the US. The outlet is owned and managed by Timmy Yoon (Randall Park), a dreamer at heart who refuses to give up on the brand even as the world has noticeably moved on to digital. Along with his dedicated team of employees, which includes his longtime crush, Eliza Walker (Melissa Fumero), Timmy pushes on to make the store a success by promoting human connection. The struggle of the ‘Blockbuster’ employees in the face of an adverse market condition dissimilar to the state of business in ‘Tires.’

3. Superstore (2015-2021)

Another workplace comedy by Justin Spitzer, ‘Superstore’ is set around the fictional megastore Cloud 9, where the tight-knit employees tackle everything from training sessions to bargain hunters all in their day’s work. While the store manager, Glen Sturgis (Mark McKinney), can barely keep up with his duties, he sails through with the help of his tough but fair assistant, Dina Fox (Lauren Ash). The chaotic daily lives of store workers dealing with the whims of customers and of each other are reminiscent of the dynamics seen in ‘Tires.’

2. Animal Control (2023-)

‘Animal Control’ chronicles the experiences of the titular department in the city of Seattle, led by Frank Shaw (Joel McHale), a seemingly tough and cynical Senior Animal Control Officer. He used to be a cop, but lost his job when he tried to expose corruption within the department. Helping him run the show is Director Emily Price (Vella Lovell), a socially awkward charmer with a creative side who dresses up animals for photoshoots to share over social media. In the course of their work, they realise that animals are simple, much unlike humans. The spirited daily shenanigans that the team goes through at work are much like what the characters in ‘Tires’ tackle every day.

1. The Crew (2021)

Created by Jeff Lowell, ‘The Crew’ follows the NASCAR company, Bobby Spencer Racing, which has a new CEO. Catherine (Jillian Mueller) bags the top job on account of being the daughter of the company’s owner, making life much difficult for the garage staff headed by Kevin Gibson (Kevin James). While the crew has been accustomed to easy-going ways, she pushes them to be more technology-oriented and efficient.

Many parallels can be drawn between ‘The Crew’ and ‘Tires,’ with the most obvious one being that they both show the lives of employees dealing with the servicing of automobiles. Much like Catherine and Bobby Spencer Racing, Will inherits Valley Forge Automotive Center and tries his best to turn the business around. While she meets resistance from the experienced workers, he faces trouble keeping his cousin-turned-employee in check.
