Netflix’s ‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ follows the story of Jackie Howard, whose life in New York is uprooted after a terrible tragedy. She is forced to move to the small town of Silver Falls in Colorado with her mother’s best friend, Katherine, and her huge family. Over time, Jackie connects with each member of the Walter family, but her relationship with Alex and Cole is particularly strenuous due to the love triangle between the three of them. Still, with each day, Jackie feels more at home in Silver Falls, which becomes her new home.
The Fictional Silver Falls is Brought to Life by Real Canadian Locations
Silver Falls in ‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ is a fictional town. There is a real place called Silver Falls in Colorado, but instead of a town, it is a waterfall near Pagosa Springs. The town that the Walter family lives in was concocted by Ali Novak for her novel, which serves as the inspiration for the Netflix series. To bring it to life on the screen, the cast and crew of the show turned towards Canada, employing various locations across different cities and towns to give a wholesome look to the American town. Filmed in the province of Alberta in Canada, the show uses locations like Calgary, Cochrane, High River, and Okotoks.
A major location in the story is the ranch, which is where Jackie moves in with a whole bunch of Walters. The CL Western Town and Backlot in Bragg Creek was used to film those scenes, with the crew returning for the first and second seasons to employ the location. The same trend continues with the third season of the show as well. With almost all Walter kids being teenagers, the Silver Falls High School serves as another major location, setting up grounds for a lot of drama. The scenes featuring the school were filmed at the Chestermere High School at 241078 Range Road 280 and the Chestermere Rec Center at 201 West Chestermere Drive in Chestermere, Alberta.
Additional locations were provided by the city of Cochrane, serving as another major filming location. It provided places like the Glenbow neighbourhood, the Cochrane RancheHouse, and the Historic Downtown. High River also became a focal point, especially in the second season, with the crew employing locations like the George Lane Memorial Park and Campground at 343 Macleod Trail Southwest and the Museum of the Highwood at 406 1 Street Southwest, used for important scenes. The crew also turned towards the town of Okotoks, with the Holy Trinity Academy at 338072 32 Street East used for its football grounds.
Monteverdi’s Pizza is Fictional, But a Key Location
The stark contrast between the glitzy streets of New York and the rural charm of Silver Falls for Jackie is a major plot point of the series. While the town might not have the grandeur of the places in the Big Apple, it does offer cozy spots that become regular haunts of the townsfolk. The second season, especially, brings Monteverdi’s Pizza into focus, as the location appears repeatedly, especially with Kiley receiving a bigger character arc this season. The scenes for the pizza place were most likely filmed at one of the soundstages in the Rocky Mountain Film Studio, at 7016 81 Street in Calgary.
The place is also used for portraying other locations in the series, and since Monteverdi’s presence in the storyline increases considerably over the season, it makes sense that the show’s creators would have preferred to film, at least the interiors, in a soundstage. The exteriors, however, were most likely filmed on location in the beautiful streets of Calgary. This is in line with the Lark Cafe, which had a prominent presence in the first season, with a vacant building on Railway Street in Crossfield serving as the location that brought its rustic charm to life.
