Sisterhood Inc: Is BeScheduled a Real App?

‘Sisterhood, Inc.’ is a comedy film that revolves around the estranged relationship of two sisters who couldn’t be more different from each other. Megan Moore is a corporate workaholic who has everything about her life planned down to the minute, while her younger sister, Izzy, is nearing her 30s and still living carefree in her parents’ house. However, as the former is unceremoniously kicked out of her position as the CEO of the BeScheduled app, it opens up the space for the two sisters to bond and work on their relationship. Somehow, this translates into Megan taking over control of Izzy’s life with a board of directors, who convene every day to make decisions that will improve the overall quality of the young woman’s life.

Despite its quirky premise, the film does an excellent job of showcasing the reality behind complicated inter-familial dynamics, especially between siblings with a big generational gap. One aspect of establishing Megan’s Type-A personality in this scenario emerges from a consistent need for planning—something for which she can rely on her BeScheduled app.

Megan’s primary tool for the organization—the BeScheduled app on her phone—is not a real app that exists in real life. Even though there are plenty of organizational applications available outside of the fictional premises of ‘Sisterhood, Inc.,’ none seem to be identical to the BeScheduled app that Megan favors. Through the on-screen app, characters are able to plan out their days, weeks, and months down to hourly details and receive updates/notifications about their schedule in a timely manner. Furthermore, it offers collaborative capabilities that make it easier to modify and sync up your calendars with others. In real life, there are a number of different apps that can help people achieve the same results.

Apps like Todoist, Tick Tick, and Any.do are great options for people who rely on essential to-do lists as an organizational method. Similarly, tools like Backlog and Fantastical are great calendar-based applications that provide the same service as traditional, widespread apps like Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook Calendar, and Apple Calendar. Nonetheless, there isn’t a highly successful micromanaging app in real life that can be directly comparable to BeScheduled.

In the narrative, the app’s most notable influence remains its ability to categorize Megan’s character into the straight-laced, overachieving, workaholic bracket. As a result, it’s a convenient plot device to showcase the clear distinction between the older sister and Izzy, who lives her life without any organization of any kind. Furthermore, the app also ties in the professional aspect of Megan’s storyline as it becomes a firm representation of her past.
