Stacy DeGrandchamp Murder: Holly Boisvert Confessed 17 Years Later and is in Prison Today

Stacy DeGrandchamp was at a house in Fort Wayne, Indiana, spending time with friends when police were called to the scene. She had collapsed in the backyard and had a large bloodstain on her shirt. She was rushed to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries the following day. Although there were numerous witnesses, authorities were unable to obtain a clear account of what happened, causing the case to remain unsolved for years. Investigation Discovery’s episode of ‘Mean Girl Murders’ titled ‘Battle of the Besties’ explores how the case was finally solved and what evidence led to the breakthrough.

Stacy DeGrandchamp Was at a Friend’s House When Was Stabbed

From the moment Rita K. DeGrandchamp welcomed her daughter, Stacy Maria DeGrandchamp, into the world on October 29, 1984, she became her entire world. Growing up surrounded by a large, loving family of aunts, uncles, and devoted grandparents, Stacy experienced an abundance of affection and support. Known for her empathetic and kind nature, she was always willing to help others in need. Among her 27 cousins, she shared a meaningful connection with each one. Stacy attended Wayne High School, where she excelled academically and pursued her ambitions with a single-minded focus. She wanted to attend Ball State University and study computer technology there. Her faith played a significant role in her upbringing, and she was an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church.

Stacy was well-liked at school and had a wide circle of friends. At 17, she began dating 20-year-old Brandon Muff. However, as she approached the end of high school, Stacy felt the need to explore new opportunities and decided to end the relationship. On August 15, 2002, she visited a friend’s house in Fort Wayne, Indiana — the town where she had grown up and spent her entire life. Moments later, police were called to the residence after Stacy collapsed. She had sustained two stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries on August 16. Given the violent nature of her wounds, authorities promptly launched a homicide investigation into her death.

The Killer Confessed to Murdering Stacy in 2019

The police first spoke to the friends who were present at the house that day. They revealed that Stacy DeGrandchamp and her friend Holly Boisvert had been experiencing tension for a while. Although they were part of the same social circle, their friendship had become strained, partly because Holly had also dated Brandon Muff, Stacy’s ex-boyfriend. When Brandon arrived at the house on August 15, 2002, she noticed Holly was there and made a remark about it, which upset Holly. The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument. Before long, the verbal exchange turned physical, and others at the gathering had to step in and break up the fight. Brandon told the police that he had tried to grab Stacy and pulled her by her ankle, which caused her to fall into the recycling bins.

Afterward, she got up, and a friend began helping her walk away. However, she suddenly collapsed in the driveway, and that’s when they noticed the bloodstain on her shirt. When the police rushed to the scene, Holly was sitting on the porch. She denied using a knife and later suggested that Stacy might have fallen onto something sharp, causing her injuries. However, the autopsy report told a different story. In January 2003, a witness who had been at the house that day came forward and stated that before Stacy arrived, Holly had changed into sweatpants and tied her hair up, seemingly preparing for a fight. Another witness also said that before Stacy had turned up, Holly had said that she would be taking a “whipping” tonight.

Another witness claimed that Holly had placed a knife on the hood of a car parked in the backyard and then washed her hands. Despite these allegations, the knife was never recovered, and Holly continued to deny using one. The case eventually went cold, but Stacy’s family remained determined in their pursuit of justice. In 2019, the case was reopened for reinvestigation. Holly, who was now living in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, was brought in for a reinterview. During the reinterview, she finally confessed to the murder. She handed over a pocket knife to the detectives and admitted that it was the weapon she had used all those years ago. Upon examination, the knife was found to match the wounds Stacy had sustained, providing the long-awaited evidence needed to solve the case.

Where is Holly Boisvert Now?

As part of her plea deal, she received a 25-year sentence, with five years suspended and three years of adult probation. During her sentencing, Holly apologized and expressed regret for her actions. Now 38 years old, she is incarcerated at the Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis, with her projected release date set for March 25, 2030.
