Does Milo Die in Steal?

In ‘Steal,’ danger looms around the central characters, who are often one wrong encounter away from the certainty of death. The story opens with an armed robbery at the investment firm Lochmill Capital that witnesses more than its fair share of bloodshed. Yet, even in the aftermath, two employees, best friends Zara and Luke, realize they may not be as safe as they imagined. The duo had a small part to play in the robbery, supplying insider information to the criminals to help them carry out their assault on the company. Although they receive their cut in the aftermath, they also quickly realize that they’re not entirely safe from the robbers’ grasp, who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty to ensure their safety at the cost of the duo’s lives. As the story progresses, this promise of danger extends to Milo, a higher executive at the company, who might have had something to do with the heist as well. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Milo’s Involvement in the Robbery Makes Him a Target

Early in the story, Luke finds himself getting abducted by the robbers as a result of his paranoia that almost compels him to reach out and confess to the authorities. As a result, the young trader ends up at the lair of the villains, staring down the barrel of an uncertain future. During this time, he manages to manipulate one of the hired men, Morgan, to cut a deal with him. Where the robbers themselves hadn’t yet seen a single penny of the 4 billion pounds they stole on behalf of the Mastermind, Luke had already gotten paid. As a result, he has access to 5 million pounds that he can use to negotiate for his own life. When even that proves to fall short, he decides to barter his friend’s finances. As a part of the job, Luke and Zara had both gotten paid the same amount.

Furthermore, they had both followed along with the directives of the Mastermind to store their money in code wallets until it could be liquidated at an opportune moment. Therefore, Luke ultimately ends up leading Morgan to his best friend’s house. Yet, despite his betrayal, Zara also manages to devise a plan of her own when she’s faced with certain doom. Throughout her partnered investigation with Detective Rhys, the trader has been working on discovering the identity of the high-up executive who was also in cahoots with the robbers. This had led her to Milo, a younger executive who often frequents the bars with the trade processing team. As it turns out, Milo had received a much bigger payout of 20 million pounds for his involvement in the heist. Thus, once Zara floats the same 20 million in front of Morgan, she successfully buys herself more time.

Milo Dies a Brutal Death

Although Morgan has no qualms about taking Luke and Zara’s code wallets and killing them, the latter manages to convince him to see the bigger picture and make a play for Milo’s 20 million as well. As a result, she soon finds herself at her colleague’s house, handcuffed and at the mercy of an armed lunatic. Initially, once Milo finds himself on the wrong end of a gun, he complies with Morgan’s demands and points him toward the safe that holds his code wallet. Nonetheless, around the same time, he also came up with a risky plan. Unlike Zara, Milo had always known the mortal perils that came with working such a job. For the same reason, he had decided to arm himself with some self-defense tools.

Even though Milo didn’t have his gun at the moment, he did have easy access to the pepper spray in the lounge area. As a result, he ends up employing its usage and attacking Morgan with it when he finds an opening. Yet, although his attack is irritating for the professional criminal’s eyes, it doesn’t pose much of a threat to the latter. Thus, despite his attempt to overpower Morgan, he ends up getting stabbed with a dagger. Ultimately, this kills the man on the spot. Worse yet, in the aftermath of the whole debacle, Milo’s memory becomes the public scapegoat for the entire operation. As his death leaves many questions unanswered, the media begins to speculate whether he was the one behind the operation to begin with. The Mastermind’s influence allows him to mould the story as such to his own benefit. Yet, in the end, Milo ends up bringing one boon to the protagonist, as his code wallet becomes Zara’s safety net.
