Subedaar Plot Synopsis

After two boys, Bablu and Mannu, enter a river near an illegal sand operation, Mannu goes missing. Mannu’s mother, Ranju, finds his corpse. A local vlogger reveals that 15 kids have died there recently. An influential man named Softy, fearing negative press, orders the body disposed of before local thug Prince’s birthday. Prince is the brother of Babli Didi, the incarcerated woman running the sand mafia with Softy’s help. Mannu’s uncle, Krishna, names Softy and Prince as the culprits behind Mannu’s death, and Prince mercilessly kills him in front of Ranju. Former military officer Subedaar Arjun Maurya mourns his late wife, Sudha, and buys a jeep with his daughter, Shyama. The father and daughter have a strained relationship. Arjun’s friend Prabhakar, who runs a security business, introduces him to Softy and secures a bodyguard job for Arjun.

However, Arjun witnesses Prince brutally harassing and beating Ranju and her other son. At college, Shyama confronts Ranveer, a classmate who sends her obscene videos. She also asks her friends to record the confrontation. Prince and Softy insult Arjun’s age while he drives them as their new bodyguard. They visit the incarcerated Babli, who learns that Prince used the same gun to kill Krishna, which ties her to a previous killing. Arjun watches news reports about the missing murder weapon. On a narrow street, Prince demands that Arjun move his parked jeep and insults his late wife after Arjun refuses. Prince and his men vandalize Arjun’s jeep, smashing windows and urinating on the seat. Enraged by the disrespect, Arjun brutally assaults Prince and his thugs. Prince threatens Arjun with a gun, but Arjun disarms him and roughs him up.

Arjun publicly humiliates Prince, forcing him to strip and clean the jeep, and Prince vows revenge. Shyama is threatened by Ranveer to delete the confrontation video. Prince realizes that he left the gun in Arjun’s jeep. Prabhakar warns Arjun about Prince and Softy’s retaliation, but Arjun refuses to apologize, stating he will protect his wife’s memory. Ranveer and his gang attack Arjun’s house and threaten Shyama. The next morning, Prince and his men throw urine-filled bottles at the house. Babli sees the video of Arjun beating Prince and berates her brother, demanding her gun back. The police refuse to file a complaint against Prince on behalf of Arjun. Prabhakar urges Arjun to return the gun, but he refuses. Prince’s thugs block Arjun’s jeep, damage it, and leave. Arjun, mistakenly thinking Shyama’s friend Rajan is harassing her, beats him up.

Arjun is arrested, and Shyama tells him about Rajan. Prince and his men ransack Arjun’s house in search of the gun. An angry Shyama tells Arjun that she is moving to a hostel after her trip to Kanpur for a sports tournament. Arjun gifts her new shoes before she leaves for Kanpur. Arjun and Prabhakar drive to the place where Ranju and her younger son are held captive by Prince and his men. Prince, Arjun, and Prabhakar meet at the location. Babli video calls, demanding the gun. Arjun denies having it, angering Prince. Babli orders a compromise, but the dispute continues. Arjun and Prabhakar tie up Prince and Softy and free Ranju and her younger son, after roughing up more goons. Arjun and Prabhakar take Ranju and her kid to a safe, abandoned village. Arjun drives to the bus stand to pick up Shyama, warning Prabhakar to be prepared for danger.

Ranveer and his men kidnap Shyama at the bus stop. Arjun chases them, but Prince’s car strikes his jeep. Ranveer takes Shyama to a remote location to rape her. Prince holds and tortures Arjun, demanding Ranju’s location. Shyama resists and injures Ranveer. She escapes after retrieving Babli’s gun from her bag and threatens Ranveer and his men, who flee. Softy tells Babli to warn Prince to surrender. Softy also cares about Fathima, Babli’s caretaker in prison. Prabhakar receives a picture of the captured Arjun. Prince calls Shyama, faking an accident, and she gives him her location. Prince’s men bring Shyama to Arjun, where Prince finds the gun in her bag. Prabhakar calls Arjun’s phone, and Prince answers. Prabhakar tells Prince to bring Arjun to his location safely.

Subedaar Ending: Do Arjun and Shyama Survive? Does Ranju Get Justice?

Prince takes Arjun and Shyama to an isolated spot by a village. The father and daughter are both injured and are made to sit in Arjun’s damaged jeep. Arjun and Shyama have a heartfelt moment, talking about Sudha and her memory. Prince and his men severely injure Prabhakar and dig a hole to bury Ranju and her younger son. As Arjun, Shyama, and Prabhakar kneel on the ground, Prabhakar discreetly tells Arjun that help is coming in ten minutes. Upon learning this, Arjun gets into survival mode and tries to somehow keep his companions safe till help arrives. Arjun starts walking away from the location emotionally, and Prince insults him. When Prabhakar intervenes, Prince shoots him dead. Shyama is overwhelmed by Prabhakar’s death and starts crying.

Prince follows Arjun, and the two of them reach a silent place. Prince taunts Arjun, who realizes that he has to keep Prince engaged for five more minutes. A brutal fight ensues between the two, and Prince gains the upper hand by temporarily blinding Arjun with sand. Prince drags Arjun back to Shyama and plans his final killing act. As Prince pulls out the gun and gets ready to urinate on Arjun, Shyama tries to intervene, but is immediately silenced. As Prince opens his zipper, Arjun shouts loudly, “The soldier is ready.” Out of nowhere, bullets start flying in from multiple directions, and the thugs face fear. A retired military man named Nana Waghmare arrives with other retired military officers to rescue Arjun and Shyama. Outnumbered and outsmarted, Prince realizes that he has been trapped.

Nana warns Prince and tells him not to try to escape. Prince tells his loyalist, Guddu, to call Softy for help. However, Softy refuses to help and instead directs Guddu to abandon Prince. As Guddu and the other thugs leave, Prince’s plan comes to a halt. Despite his anger, Prince isn’t able to do anything. Arjun and Shyama are out of danger and free Ranju and her younger son. Arjun doesn’t kill Prince, but teaches him a lesson in humility. Arjun gives Ranju the opportunity to punish Prince, but she doesn’t kill him. Out of frustration and anger, she loudly screams the name of her dead son, Mannu, and slaps a helpless Prince. All in all, Arjun and Shyama survive due to the conviction of their fight, and Ranju gets justice by slapping Prince and leaving him to live in shame for the rest of his life.

Is Prince Dead? Who Killed Babli?

Babli controls the criminal operation despite being a convicted murderer. Her vast influence and command over her brother, Prince, make her a dangerous presence in Arjun’s life. Though she presumes that she is safe in prison, a shocking betrayal leads to her death. When Prince tells his loyal man, Guddu, to contact Softy, the plan backfires. Softy refuses to help and places Prince in greater danger. It is revealed that Softy is sitting in front of Babli’s corpse in the prison. Softy grows tired of following orders and decides to make a power move to gain control of the sand mafia. The key player in this equation is Fathima, the seemingly unassuming caretaker of Babli. In the prison, Babli constantly treats Fathima with disrespect and also makes insensitive comments on her identity.

In an earlier sequence in the narrative, it is revealed that Softy cares about Fathima and is a dear friend of hers. At the right moment, Fathima reveals her true self and poisons Babli’s food even before Prince takes Arjun to the isolated location. Unlike her silent existence earlier, Fathima now smokes a cigarette and stares down at Babli’s corpse. Softy and Fathima plan Babli’s death secretly and achieve it without any issues. Softy and Fathima now gain effective control over the sand mafia and will presumably continue to reign over the gang for the foreseeable future. Prince becomes the last hurdle between Softy and absolute power. Prince is spared by Arjun, but wakes up to find himself buried. With only his head above the ground, the rest of him is under the mud. A car rams into his head and instantly kills him.

With this, the gun that belonged to Babli might still be able to provide justice to the ones that Babli killed. Though the story doesn’t explicitly reveal the identity of Prince’s killer, it is highly likely that Softy murdered Prince to gain full power and control in the criminal operation. Babli and Prince didn’t expect such events to unfold and remained naive in their perception of who Softy is. Thus, Prince and Babli are killed as a result of their own ignorance and arrogance.

Will Softy Target Arjun? Why?

With Softy becoming the new head of the local criminal empire, he also inherits the risk surrounding the sand mafia. Though Softy had no personal enmity with Arjun, he now has a reason to target him. Arjun knows about the sand mafia operation and everything associated with it. Softy knows that Arjun is a morally upright man and will probably intend to expose the criminal operation to the larger public. Towards the very end of the narrative, we see Arjun’s house getting attacked by Softy. The new crime boss throws a Molotov cocktail at Arjun’s house and asks the former military officer to join him or die. As fire blazes in front of his eyes, Arjun gets ready for a new battle. The screen displays the word “beginning” and hints at the fact that this is just one part of the story, and the tale of Arjun will continue in a possible sequel.

As Arjun continues to fight for his loved ones, he may have to eliminate Softy in the future to ensure the safety of his daughter and himself. Softy will presumably leave Arjun with no choice other than violence. On top of his personal stake in Softy’s world, Arjun may also feel responsible for other victims, who have also suffered under the might of the sand mafia, as Ranju did. Ultimately, with the calming influence of Prabhakar no longer present, Arjun will have nothing stopping him from waging a brutal war against Softy and his gang.
