Summer Villa Filming Locations
Although ‘Summer Villa’ is set in the French countryside, it was filmed entirely in Montreal in Quebec Province. From what we can tell, the production was carried out in the first half of 2016. Like many Hallmark movies, the shoot was packed into a few weeks. Despite the tight schedule, the cast and crew had a great time on set and left with fond memories of the experience, as Montreal’s European-style charm made the perfect backdrop for this feel-good rom-com.
Montreal, Quebec
The entirety of ‘Summer Villa’ was shot in Montreal, Quebec, in the southeastern part of the country. Known for its stunning blend of European and North American influences, the unique charm of the cosmopolitan city made it the perfect setting for this romantic Hallmark film. The production team carefully selected various neighborhoods and landmarks that perfectly mirrored the elegance and beauty of France, creating a seamless illusion of the French countryside. From cozy bistros to scenic outdoor spaces, each location was handpicked to evoke the romance and timelessness of the French backdrop. The villa that was chosen as a filming site exuded charm with its sun-drenched gardens, cobblestone streets, and candlelit dinners.
Despite the fast-paced filming schedule, which is typical for Hallmark movies, the cast and crew thrived in Montreal’s vibrant atmosphere. The city’s eclectic blend of old-world charm and modern energy provided both a creative and scenic setting that enhanced the film’s mood. While the cast and crew had an enjoyable time shooting in the city, lead actor Victor Webster admitted he was a bit underwhelmed that he didn’t have the chance to explore the city as much as he had hoped.
In an interview with TV Goodness, he shared, “I think the last day we worked 19-and-a-half hours. We started at 11 am, and it was six the next morning when we wrapped.” Montreal is known for its versatile locations, and its European flair added an authenticity that helped bring the movie’s picturesque setting to life, making it feel both intimate and timeless. Over the years, it has become a favorable filming spot and has aided in the production of several films and TV shows such as ‘A Majestic Christmas,’ ‘Single All The Way,’ ‘Winter Castle,’ ‘Mount Royal’ and ’19-2.’
