Super Subbu Plot Synopsis

Subramanyam Chilukuri Rao, AKA Subbu, is a modest government school teacher in Hyderabad, Telangana. His father, the strict and conservative Kukkuteshwar Rao AKA Kukku, is a retired school headmaster and the patriarch of his middle-class family. Since Subbu’s childhood, his father, due to several misunderstandings, has assumed that his son is too curious about sex. The former headmaster constantly insults Subbu for his simplistic profession, lack of direction, and his perverted mind. The son is engaged to Divya, whom he loves dearly. Madusudana Rao, the principal of Subbu’s school, discreetly gives him a new job opportunity. The teacher is expected to serve as a sex education officer in Makhipur, a village with one of the state’s highest birth rates, for six months. The principal does this to prevent his brother-in-law from taking up the job and suffering in the village.

Divya’s family is worried about the temporary nature of Subbu’s job. Hoping to secure a permanent teaching position, marry Divya, and earn his father’s respect, Subbu heads to Makhipur. Kukku remains unaware of what his son’s next job is and approves his move to the village. Makhipur throws several challenges to the new sex educator, making him instantly regret his decision. Among the prominent people in the village are the unnamed village chief and his ambitious younger brother, Ramesh Babu, who wants to be chief himself. Giri, Gangadhar, and Kishan are part of a local gang of men who had assaulted the previous sex education officer for talking about intimacy. Subbu’s local contact and assistant is Kantha Rao, a teacher. After Subbu teaches some local women about the concept of consent, they refuse to have sex with their husbands.

The angry husbands intend to assault the sex educator, but stop because of the orders of the chief. While the chief appears supportive, his main goal is to complete the sex education program to secure state grants to build a water tank for the village, but Ramesh Babu wants to prevent this. Laxman Rao, an important official, wants to fire Subbu after he fails to deliver a good demo for condom use. At a public sex awareness event, a journalist clicks a photograph with Subbu in it. Divya gets an opportunity to travel to the US for higher studies and grows distant from the sex educator. Subbu crosses paths with a young village girl, Swathi, an aspiring actress and the daughter of Benjamin, a local Christian preacher. Due to a misunderstanding, Subbu ends up talking to Rajini, a female sex worker, at her home for a while.

The otherwise antagonistic men of the village assume that Subbu is experienced in matters of intimacy and start being friendly with him so they, too, can learn to last longer in bed. Swathi’s father, due to his conservative values, prevents her from going to the city or acting in films, even after she receives an offer following a successful audition. Alekhya, Ramesh’s daughter, gets pregnant after secretly getting intimate with a relative. She discreetly asks Subbu to help her get an abortion, as he is the only one who would understand her situation. Subbu does so, despite the risks involved. Kukku and family pay a short visit to Makhipur, and the villagers help the sex educator deceive them into believing that he is just a school teacher. Subbu’s sex awareness program becomes more successful as many couples consult him, and even the conservative individuals of the village start seeing the benefits.

Despite all this, Subbu is desperate to return to the city. Swathi and Subbu grow closer after supporting each other through an emotional moment, leading to sex. Later, when the sex educator gives money to Swathi to help her, she misunderstands that he is paying her for sex and walks away. Things get tense when Ramesh announces during a public event that he saw Subbu taking a masked girl to an abortion clinic after getting her pregnant. Fearing the worst, Subbu escapes Makhipur with Kantha Rao and Swathi’s help and returns to the city.

Super Subbu Ending: Does Kukku Learn the Truth? Does He Accept Subbu?

Once Subbu returns to Hyderabad, he starts to miss Makhipur and Swathi. Although he goes back to the school to resume his teaching duties, he no longer feels the passion to just be a regular government school teacher. Kukku, who is still unaware of what Subbu was doing in the village, is desperate to get him married to Divya. Despite telling Subbu earlier that she is moving to the US and isn’t interested in marrying him presently, Swathi considers the wedding again after her visa application is rejected. Subbu realizes that Divya doesn’t truly want to marry him, but just perceives him as her second option. Without even asking for his son’s consent, Kukku resumes marriage talks with Divya’s family and fixes a date for the wedding.

The strict father also orders Subbu and the rest of the family to accompany him to Tirupati, a popular Hindu temple, to seek blessings and start this new chapter. The former sex education officer is now in doubt, as he doesn’t want to go ahead with the wedding, but also fears facing his father. Subbu’s family, along with Divya’s, reaches the station to board a bus to Tirupati at the earliest. When the two families walk in the main corridor, a local TV channel broadcasts news about the sex education program in Makhipur. The channel also features a speech from a local leader in Makhipur, who credits Subbu for successfully completing the sex education program. Finally aware of his son’s truth, Kukku is stunned and feels humiliated.

Due to his narrow-mindedness, the father is unable to accept this and views his son as a perverted individual. With everyone in the bus station staring at the family, Kukku feels more insulted and verbally abuses Subbu, calling him a useless son who will never be accepted as a husband by any girl. As the frustrated father repeatedly scolds Subbu, Divya, and the family are left in a confusing situation. To make matters worse for the former sex education officer, Kantha Rao and Swathi show up at the station. Swathi, in her bridal attire, comes close to Subbu and tells him she is in love with him and has run away from the wedding venue. Hearing this, Subbu feels a cascade of emotions and passionately hugs Swathi, much to Kukku’s dismay.

This moment also leads Divya and her family to call off the wedding and leave the station. Overcome by negative emotions, Kukku declares that he is disowning his son and will henceforth consider him dead. Subbu finally stands up to his father’s aggression and says that he doesn’t regret being a sex education officer, stressing that he is proud of it. The usually quiet and unassuming son finally learns to respect himself and speak the truth without hesitation. Following this, Kukku walks out with the rest of his family members in utter disgust, permanently damaging the relationship between them and Subbu. Although Subbu hopes to stand with the truth, it ultimately comes at the cost of his familial relationships.

Do Subbu and Swathi Get Together? Why?

Swathi misunderstands Subbu’s intentions after he gives her cash out of sympathy. She assumes that he is paying her for sex and walks away. Out of spite, she even agrees to an arranged marriage proposal suggested by her father. Her anger gradually subsides after realizing that he is under immense pressure from the villagers. When Subbu is chased by Ramesh Babu and his men, Swathi turns up in her two-wheeler to help the sex educator escape the village without significant injuries. Before leaving, Subbu tries to apologize to her, saying he never meant to offend her and that he actually likes her. Although she wants to talk about her issues, she chooses not to say anything and orders him to leave as soon as possible. A devastated Subbu boards a public bus and escapes to Hyderabad.

In the city, as Subbu and his family prepare to leave for Tirupati, Swathi surprises him by showing up at the bus station with Kantha Rao. In her bridal attire, she reveals that she left the groom at the altar because she is still in love with Subbu. At this point, the former sex educator understands that he and Swathi are meant to get together and hugs her in front of his family and the rest of the station. He doesn’t hesitate to speak the truth and proves to Swathi that he genuinely loves her. The earlier circumstances force the two to confront difficult questions, but they ultimately realize they should listen to their own hearts rather than blindly obey the whims of their communities and families.

Does Subbu Return to Makhipur? Will He Survive?

After confronting his family and proudly sticking by his identity as a sex educator, Subbu faces a new challenge. He must now decide whether to continue living in the city or return to Makhipur and risk it all. Subbu chooses the latter and heads to the village on a public bus. He makes this decision because of the value that Makhipur holds in his life. Although he faced innumerable issues at the village in the past, he recognizes that it is the only place where he can be happy and feel like he belongs. The young man explains his deep connection to Makhipur during the charged conversation with his father at the bus station. At this point, Subbu already has a permanent offer to continue as a school teacher, but still decides that Makhipur is where he belongs.

He also knows that there are several individuals who want to assault or possibly even kill him for what he has done. Ramesh Babu assumes that Subbu impregnated his daughter and forced her to get an abortion. Along with this, Giri, Gangadhar, and Kishan finally find out that Subbu deceived each of them into getting a vasectomy. The young teacher had done so to impress the higher officials and fulfill the objectives of his sex education program, not realizing that it would have dire consequences. With all this in mind, Subbu finally reaches Makhipur, where hundreds of angry locals surround the bus he is on, intending to attack him. The teacher strangely feels no fear, willing to accept whatever comes his way. The show ends at this moment, leaving his fate uncertain.

It can be inferred that Subbu will be able to convince the villagers to forgive him, given that he has already earned their goodwill in the past. Their anger may subside once they understand that Subbu only wanted to do good. It has been previously established that the villagers’ threats are often driven by emotion rather than a genuine intention to kill someone, especially a guest. It can be presumed that they will eventually forgive Subbu and that he will survive. However, the young man may never reveal the truth about Alekhya in order to protect her from her father, Ramesh. Subbu is an important figure in the lives of the villagers and will likely remain part of the community in the future.

What is the Significance of the Glow-worm?

The story begins and ends with a glow-worm occupying screen space. This seemingly unimportant detail has a deeper symbolic meaning in the story. The glow-worm appears whenever there are instances of violence and shifts in the fates of characters. In the first scene, it flies into the frame when the villagers get ready to attack the previous sex education officer, the one before Subbu. The worm also makes its presence known when Subbu and Swathi get intimate. Finally, it lands on the sex educator’s arm when he is about to face the entire village in the final scene.

The glow-worm is a symbol of destiny, possibility, and truth. It signals the beginning of conflicts, while also serving as a symbol of love and hate simultaneously. It is deeply connected to Subbu’s journey, who, like the worm, is a lone entity. As the characters face moments of uncertainty and challenge, the worm continues to observe their journeys and may influence them in its own way.
