Co-created by Moshe Zonder, Daniel Syrkin, Omri Shenhar, Maor Kohn, and Dana Eden, Apple TV+’s ‘Tehran’ follows Tamar Rabinyan, a seasoned hacker and Mossad agent, as she traverses the heart of the eponymous city and uncovers its deepest secrets. While the entire world is in a state of chaos, forces within Iran plan to start a nuclear program and establish themselves as one of the superpowers. However, doing so threatens the entire global equilibrium, and it is up to Tamar and her team to end the operation before it even begins.
The Iranian regime is not her only enemy, though, as the entire third season of this spy thriller series is devoted to bringing out the gray shades in all sides of the conflict. In the season finale, Tamar successfully disrupts a nuclear launch by retrieving the nuclear core and killing Faraz in a fiery explosion. While Apple TV+ has renewed the series for a fourth season and production is already underway, no release date has been given as of writing. In the best-case scenario, fans can expect the sequel to be released sometime in 2027.
Tehran Season 4 Will Likely Follow Tamar’s Journey Back Home
The fourth season of ‘Tehran’ is most likely to pick up immediately where the story last left off, with Tamar on the run from the Iranian government. While this isn’t her first time cheating death and making an escape, this time, the stakes are far greater because of the nuclear core she is carrying. While it is safely in her possession right now, any chemical reaction strong enough can cause it to detonate and wipe out huge chunks of the city, meaning that Tamar has frighteningly little time to take cover and possibly find her way back to Israel. In the third season finale, we see her running through the bushland with Ramin, and given his connection to the CIA, it is likely that they will have a secure extraction channel sooner than later. Tamar’s problems, however, don’t exactly end there.
Apart from the Iranian military, the other significant threat that Tamar has to deal with is none other than Mossad itself. At the very start of the third season, she is declared a rogue agent, and while she manages to borrow time from both Yulia and the Owl, that clock is about to run out. Though it is not confirmed whether or not Yulia still sees her as a threat, the former’s final expression is one of mixed admiration and anxiousness. In the worst-case scenario, however, it is possible that Tamar may not find shelter in Israel either, in which case she has no option but to make Tehran her base for even longer. With the Owl out of the picture, she no longer has anything resembling a safety net, and season 4 has the potential to dial her two-pronged battle up a notch.
Tehran Season 4 Will Not Feature Some of its Best Characters
With ‘Tehran’ entering its fourth season, fans can expect some major shifts in the cast of characters, both on the side working with Tamar and the one against. As the star of the series, actor Niv Sultan is all set to step back into the role of Tamar Rabinyan. The sequel is also likely to feature actor Phoenix Raei more prominently, as his character, Ramin Rasmi, is slowly becoming one of the show’s most important figures. Additionally, actors Sara von Schwarze and Shila Ommi are also likely to reprise their roles as Yulia and Nahid, respectively. In the case of the latter, chances are that the story will begin a parallel narrative, showcasing Nahid’s escape from Iran and her attempts at a fresh life. It remains to be seen whether or not actor Yarden Toussia-Cohen will return for the role of Talia, as the character is last seen being put behind bars.
The third season finale is defined by three major departures, with the Owl, Peterson, and Faraz dying in quick succession. As such, actors Sasson Gabai, Hugh Laurie, and Shaun Toub, who essay the respective characters, are unlikely to reprise their roles for the fourth season. Instead, actor Alain Ali Washnevsky is likely to become a key player as Larijani, the new leader of the regime, who is likely pumped with a vendetta against Mossad, and specifically Tamar. In the same vein, there is a chance that season 4 will introduce some new antagonistic figures, ones that can sufficiently take Faraz’s place as the greatest rival Tamar has in the entire series. Peterson’s daughter, who is as of yet not shown on-screen, continues to be one of the show’s big mysteries, and the fourth season might put a face to the name to expand on her side of the story.
Tehran Season 4 Can Introduce a New Romantic Journey For Tamar
Given that season 3 of ‘Tehran’ follows Tamar on a journey of healing and self-discovery, the upcoming sequel is likely to introduce new elements in the same vein. One such possibility is that of a romantic relationship with Ramin, as the final stretch of the season already shows hints of the same. Given that both of them are on the run, their fates are effectively intertwined, and it remains to be seen how Mossad engages with a CIA asset such as Ramin, knowing the complications that might follow. Still, Tamar’s greatest challenge remains making a safe exit from Tehran for the time being, and that means making new allies along the way. We also don’t know what Yulia has done to Talia, as the last time we see her is when she is behind bars. Season 4, as such, is set to bring Tamar’s confrontation home, with Yulia potentially becoming her greatest foil.
Another major thread that the fourth season is bound to expand on is Nahid’s escape from Faraz’s clutches. While she may be safe inside the women’s shelter for now, soon it will be time for Nahid to use the fake passport and make her way abroad, leaving Iran behind forever. Although it is not confirmed just yet, chances are that she is headed to Finland, where she can reunite with her sister at last. However, it is important to note that Nahid doesn’t know Faraz is dead, and that it was Tamar who made it happen. This puts the two women’s dynamic in an even more awkward position, and while a part of their bond is about acknowledging each other’s suffering, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Nahid is an ally. As such, the fourth season has the chance to reinvent most of the dynamics the show has built up over the years, and in turn, push the story into a wholly unpredictable direction.
