In order to make mushrooms easily accessible to people, Jared Steele worked hard for several years before finally creating Terrashroom. It is an intelligent mushroom-growing chamber that allows people to grow chemical-free and organic mushrooms in the comfort of their homes. Hoping to see his brand and revolutionary technology reach newer heights, the founder of Terrashroom pitched the product in front of the Sharks in the fourth episode of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ season 16.
Terrashroom: Who Are They and What Do They Do?
Jared Steele’s road to success with Terrashroom was neither short nor easy. After earning his Associate’s degree from Dallas College, he majored in Business Management with a Concentration in Entrepreneurship from Texas Tech University – Rawls College of Business. In 2020, he earned his MicroMasters in Marketing Analytics from the University of California, Berkeley. Jared interned as a Credit Analyst at NEC while he was still a college student in 2015. In the same year, he started a small mobile screen repair business called CrackedApple, which grew into a three-person operation with a revenue of $3,500 per week.
His next internship took him to TRUNO, Retail Technology Solutions, where he interned as a Software Sales Representative. From May to August 2016, he served as an Inside Sales Executive intern at CoreLogic. He also interned at Smooth Fusion and Stanford University, before landing his first full-time job at Darktrace as a Cyber Security Business Development Executive. It was followed by a few short stints at GL Brands as a Sales Executive, National Science Foundation (NSF) as a Regional I-Corps Research Coordinator Team Lead, Texas Tech University as an Innovation Hub Accelerator Team Lead, and Sana Benefits as a Sales Development Associate. A few years before establishing Terrashroom, Jared had already dabbled in the entrepreneurial world by starting a company called Pombox in 2019.
Unfortunately, the business eventually had to shut its doors after a couple of years. Simultaneously, he was employed as an Industrial Sales Strategist at Unity Technologies. Following that, he worked at Angle Health for a few months before finally creating Terrashroom in May 2022. With a vision to make growing mushrooms simple and automated, the idea of Terrashroom was born in one of his friends’ spare bedrooms in Utah. Once he had a clear picture in mind, Jared spent several months making hundreds of prototypes with a couple of his friends before finally building the TS-01 Mushroom Grow Computer. Over time, they became more familiar with the debugging automation systems and the growing conditions for the mushrooms, allowing them to improve and refine the product.
Thanks to Jared’s determination to build something revolutionary, he managed to give people the power to grow mushrooms at home and gain their medicinal benefits effortlessly. With the help of Terrashroom, which is the world’s first automated mushroom grow computer, anyone can grow mushrooms within their home in an effortless and efficient manner. With its user-friendly operation, the mushroom farming device allows users to produce fresh and organic mushrooms like a seasoned grower. Moreover, the machine not only constantly monitors the airflow, climate, and humidity of the dome, enhancing the mushrooms’ growth, but it also comes with a camera that captures time-lapse footage of the growing process.
Terrashroom: Where Are They Today?
Although Jared Steele and Terrashroom failed to get any of the Sharks onboard, the brand gained prominence and went on to feature on Lifehacker, ABC, and ‘My First Million.’ By December 2024, Terrashroom announced that the first batch of Mass Production One was in the warehouse, ready to be delivered to all the buyers’ doorsteps. The revolutionary product, Terrashroom Master Grow Kit, is available for purchase on the company’s official website for a discounted price of $399, which includes a one-month supply. For the discounted price of $549, one can buy the Terrashroom Grow Kit Super Bundle, which comes with a 4-month supply.
While the former consists of Terrashroom TS-01 mushroom grow computer, one organic mushroom cake, and two contaminant blocking HEPA air filters, the bundle contains the grow computer, four organic mushroom cakes, and six contaminant blocking HEPA air filters. The user only has to plug the machine, fill the water tank, put the mushroom grow block inside, and begin the growing process through the device’s application. About three weeks later, the mushrooms are ready for harvesting, and the user can make the most of them. Through Terrashroom, the founder envisioned a future where people would not require a middleman and have direct access to fresh mushrooms easily.
