The family finally reaches Jason’s place, after which Leigh and Luis desperately look for Jason. Leigh finds her father’s phone and blood on the floor. She calls the cops, who find no clues about Jason’s whereabouts. The next day, Detective Haywood calls Leigh and informs her that he has found Jason. Leigh then goes to Shadyside, an old-age home, and finally sees Jason. The father reveals that he hit his head mistakenly and called 911 for emergency assistance. Jason also says that a woman named Janet Timms is involved in his recovery.

Leigh and Luis meet Janet and her brother, Dave Timms, and learn that the court has appointed Janet as Jason’s temporary guardian and that he can’t leave the old-age home without her consent. Luis and Leigh are surprised to hear this. Janet asks the couple to approach the court if they don’t want her as guardian. Leigh learns there is a permanent guardianship hearing for Jason. Janet is strongly in favor of amputating Jason’s leg as soon as possible. Leigh tries to build her own case and tell the court that she has people who could speak the truth about Janet. The judge speaks in favor of Janet and says that random testimonies may not be effective, as they may not be related to the case. In a shocking moment, Leigh tells Bean, the judge, that she has one strong piece of evidence that she would like to present.

Janet is left without any logical arguments, and Dave’s fate is sealed. Dave is a man obsessed with protecting his sister and goes to extreme lengths to ensure that she is safe.

Janet rushes away from the media after her brother is arrested. She faces disgrace and isolation in the aftermath of the case. As Leigh escorts Jason out of Shadyside, we see Mitch covering Janet’s case in WETC.
