The Chi Season 7 Episode 10 Recap: Tha Block Is Hot

In season 7 of ‘The Chi,’ loyalties are starting to shift as the conflict between nemeses grows. Reg remains vigilant about his safety after recent events force him into hiding. Still, unbeknownst to him, a mole in his close circle continues to feed information to his rival, Nuck. In turn, the mob boss works with Detective Toussaint, who is dedicated to seeing Reg behind bars. Inevitably, her hunt brings her to Alicia’s door. Consequently, an unlikely partnership promises to make waves, especially in the matter of Rob’s yet unavenged murder. Meanwhile, interpersonal relationships between characters also become more complicated. Emmett’s near-death experience and news of his mother, Jada’s terminal diagnosis, push him to examine his life and shift focus toward his priorities. Similarly, Pastor Zeke, who has been forced to turn over a new leaf, deliberates over the mistakes of his past in an effort to better his future. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Keisha Turns Down Emmett’s Proposal

Emmett’s proposal, which arrives on the heels of his waking up from a tense coma, comes as a surprise to all, especially his partner, Keisha. The duo has been together for a long time and is expecting a child. Even though their lives are deeply entangled together, marriage hasn’t been an expected progression on the horizon for them. Yet, it seems Emmett’s near-death experience has flipped a switch inside him. Nonetheless, while he is ready to jump into this next step of their lives, his partner doesn’t hold the same belief. For the same reason, she asks for some time to think about his proposal. Shortly afterward, Jada discloses distressing news to her son, finally telling him about her fatal cancer diagnosis.

The culmination of these events inevitably put Emmett in a gloomier mindspace. Yet, despite everything, he has Keisha to support him in his dark times. Furthermore, he takes up the chances he gets to spend more time with his parents, cherishing the last of his days with Jada. Eventually, it’s his mother who helps him clear up some of the more distressing recent developments. During an emotionally charged conversation, she gives her engagement ring to Emmett, urging him to use it the next time he proposes. She encourages him to pitch the question from a place of conviction instead of fear, the next time. As such, Keisha’s rejection becomes more understandable. The latter is only worried that her partner wants to marry her because of the recent scare on his life, as well as his mother’s diagnosis.

Zeke Reconnects With His Ex-Wife

Recently, Pastor Zeke’s love life has been in shambles. His second marriage falls apart after her wife’s affair comes out in the open. Afterward, he begins dating Sarah. However, their interracial relationship ends up becoming his downfall, at least regarding his pastorship of the city’s megachurch. Worse yet, Sarah breaks up with him when he’s at his lowest. Consequently, his transition into taking over Papa’s church has arrived as a new beginning for him. Simultaneously, some family complications also bring his ex-wife, Carolyn, back into Zeke’s orbit. The parents find a gun in their daughter, Kenya’s, room, leading them to become more efficient in guiding the young woman away from such dangerous methods of self-defense.

The incident compels Zeke to rekindle his connection with Carolyn, in an effort to better co-parent their kid. Furthermore, it also inspires the pastor to increase his work in abolishing gun violence in the community. For the same reason, he hosts a block party, aimed at uplifting spirits. Inevitably, he ends up spending most of this party with his ex-wife by his side. Thus, as complications of the past begin to smooth over, it seems like the duo is ready to consider the prospect of building a future together. Zeke’s many missteps have changed his ideals and his priorities. Therefore, now he’s willing to open himself up to his and Carolyn’s relationship in a way he wasn’t before. Likewise, it seems that despite her initial reluctance, the latter is also warming up to the idea of a rekindled romance.

A Bad Tip Compels Toussaint to Seek out an Alliance With Alicia

Ever since Emmett’s shooting, Reg has had a big target on his back. Even his brothers have turned their backs on him, leaving him with scant few trustworthy people. Hannibal, his right-hand man, is not one of these people. Once Nuck struck up a deal with Toussaint to help her catch Reg, he naturally sought him out to learn about his boss’ whereabouts. Consequently, Hannibal started working for Nuck as a double agent, feeding him information about Reg. Consequently, when he makes the plan to pull a robbery at a high-end jewelry store to replenish his cash, his second-in-command rats him out from right under his nose. Nonetheless, when Toussaint shows up at the location to make a red-handed arrest, she’s met with two other robbers who have no connection to her target.

It seems Reg’s paranoid tendencies have helped him out in expecting an ambush and setting up a trap of his own. Whether this trap is for Hannibal or Nuck remains yet to be seen. Furthermore, it’s also possible that his new bodyguard, Jackie, has something to do with this plan. Either way, it throws the Detective in for a loop. As a result, realizing her partnership with Nuck may not lead to success, she seeks out help from elsewhere. This brings her to Alicia, the woman who is intent on cleaning the streets of murderers, even if it’s with violence of her own.

Toussaint knows it’s hard to win over Alicia’s trust and even harder to win her help. For the same reason, she decides to use the ace up her sleeve and brings Rob’s death into the conversation. The Detective knows the mother is looking for her son’s killer. Since the former wrongly suspects Reg to be behind the murder, she believes Alicia can help her put him behind bars. In the conversation that follows, Toussaint tells her future ally about how Bakari’s DNA was found outside the house on the night of Rob’s death. Therefore, she concludes that the young man must have some knowledge about the identity of the real killer. Naturally, in light of this information, Alicia cuts off the young writer’s college scholarship and confronts him about the truth behind her son’s death. Ultimately, it seems the walls are beginning to close in on the young man.
