Now that Detective Toussaint has begun her hunt after Reg, things have started to heat up in season 7 of ‘The Chi.’ In episode 8, titled ‘A Bet is a Bet,’ Damien’s gambling addiction finally catches up to him as he crosses paths with the wrong crowd. However, in the end, someone else might just have to pay the price for his mistakes. Meanwhile, Tiff’s two-pronged will-they-won’t-they romance with the Nuck and Victor reaches a promising destination after the expecting mother makes a choice. Similarly, the mob boss also finds himself faced with a decision to make when Toussaint approaches him with an offer for an unlikely partnership. As such, things continue to unravel in unexpected ways. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Nuck Strikes a Deal With Toussaint
Ever since Toussaint learned that Reg is back in the city, she has reopened her case against him. Therefore, Judge Bradley’s offer to release her son from prison in exchange for his arrest only motivates the detective more in her efforts. This brings her to Nuck, the current leader of the city’s mob. She wants to team up with him in order to have a better chance at catching Reg, who is paranoid and walled-up enough as it is. Although she doesn’t know it yet, Nuck has a reason of his own to go after the other man.
Recently, some quick thinking from Bakari instilled a thought in Alicia that has connected the previously assumed dead Taylor brother to her son’s murder. Since Nuck is the one who actually killed Rob, Reg’s downfall would be great for him, especially if it gets Alicia off his own scent. Furthermore, the latter seems adamant about challenging his leadership of the mob, which adds incentive to orchestrating his doom. Therefore, after one affirming conversation with his Zeke, his Pastor on retainer, he makes the decision to go after Reg, even if it means working with a cop.
Victor and Tiff’s Relationship Takes a New Turn
Victor and Tiff have been flirting with the idea of a romance for some time now. Still, the latter’s pregnancy and persisting grief over Rob prevent them from jumping headfirst into anything. Therefore, they continue to remain close friends for now. Nonetheless, that begins to change when Tiff invites herself over to her friend’s concert plans. The event offers a rare, intimate moment for the couple. As a result, the pair eventually ended the night with a kiss by the front door. Even though this cements the expecting mother’s reciprocated feelings for Victor, the possibility of a future relationship between them still remains up in the air.
Alicia’s presence in Tiff’s life makes it complicated for her to move on from her previous lost love. On the other hand, her equally charged relationship with Nuck might also create some problems in the future. On the other hand, Victor remains more sure about his wants and desires. He’s willing to stay in Tiff’s orbit in whatever way possible. Consequently, he decides to face a rather difficult conversation with Emmett, the latter’s ex-boyfriend, with whom she shares a child. Even though Emmett asserts that he’s fine with the unexpected development, especially because of his own relationship with Keisha, it’s evident that the other man has some hidden, complicated feelings about the matter.
Damien’s Addiction Causes Big Trouble For Emmett
After Damien’s disastrous venture into cards, it becomes evident that the young man’s gambling addiction is back. Therefore, his father, Darnell, decides to restart his rehabilitation journey by rolling him into a local support group. Surprisingly enough, he ends up finding a possible place for himself, too, after coming across a group for grieving partners. Nonetheless, the exercise isn’t nearly as effective for his son. Shortly after the session, Damien goes on to hang out with Reg, his new acquaintance. Inevitably, this leads to a bet that quickly gets out of hand. Therefore, the young man finds himself five thousand dollars in debt to Reg.
Once it becomes clear that Damien won’t be able to get out of the situation by paying up, it sends him on a quest to make big cash overnight. Initially, he manages to use his friendships with Dom and Bakari to secure two thousand dollars in total. Afterward, he manages another two thousand thanks to his terminally ill stepmother, Jada. Nonetheless, by the end of the day, he’s still short on his payment to Reg. As a result, the latter ends up beating him up in retaliation. Inevitably, when Damien returns home, soaked in his own blood, he receives a negative reaction from his half-brother. Ultimately, he decides to march down to Reg’s house to start a fight. Yet, things soon go downhill when a misfired gunshot lands in Emmett’s chest, dooming him to a bleak future.
