The Chi Season 7 Finale Recap: Is Alicia Dead?

Season 7 of ‘The Chi’ has long been building toward an explosion. Ever since Rob’s death, Alicia has been making enemies left and right in an attempt to serve vengeance. Consequently, Reg, who returns to the city, back from the dead, inadvertently earns the biggest target on his back. Meanwhile, Nuck, who has somehow managed to keep his involvement in Rob’s death a secret, continues to watch his back at all times. Naturally, this means more trouble for Bakari, the young, aspiring author who is stuck as the mob leader’s number two. On the other, more domestic hand, Keisha and Tiff await the births of their respective babies, while other complications brew across their family lines. Thus, with multiple pieces at play, episode 12 titled ‘Rebirth’ packs a promising punch. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Reg Makes Bail and Goes After Alicia

Alicia’s previous collaboration with Detective Toussiant successfully led to the arrest of Reg, red-handed in the middle of an attempted robbery. Nonetheless, his girlfriend, Candice, and her cousin, Keith, are able to get him out on bail thanks to his secret stash of cash. Since Reg was arrested unarmed in the middle of an attempted breaking and entering, the charges against him are inevitably lenient. Still, rather than playing it safe during his bail, the man decides to make bold moves. In the aftermath of the arrest, Candice realizes that she had been conned into setting her boyfriend. From there, it only takes so long for the trio to figure out her wannabe rich mentor’s real identity as Alicia.

In order to get back at Alicia, Reg decides to set a trap of his own. He uses Candice’s connection to the woman to get her out of her house and away from the premises. Consequently, while Candice keeps the older woman busy at a restaurant, under the false pretense of requiring her help, Reg breaks into the luxurious mansion, prepared to send in a message and leave with some expensive loot. By the time Alicia catches on to their game, it’s already too late. Thus, it seems Reg has made it out of the line of fire fairly unharmed and with a substantial profit. Even so, Toussiant is still likely on his case, eager to put him behind bars to earn her own son’s freedom.

Tiff Gives Birth to Rob Junior

After Tiff’s water breaks, Victor is by her side every step of the way, even when she insists on returning to her house to collect her bag of supplies, which includes the picture of Rob, the father of her child. However, this detour puts them off schedule, landing them right into the morning traffic rush in the middle of her active labor. The streak of bad luck continues when they finally arrive at the hospital. Although they made it in the nick of time, that advantage ends up being for naught when the duo gets stuck in an elevator alone together. Therefore, the prospect of giving birth in the hospital elevator with only Victor around for support becomes a very pressing reality for Tiff.

For his part, Victor remains a steady and reliable rock. Once the emergency help through the intercom makes it clear that the birth would have to happen in the elevator, he’s prepared to do his part in ensuring Tiff and her baby’s safety. Fortunately, despite the adverse circumstances, the birth goes swimmingly, welcoming a baby boy into the world. Shortly afterward, the staff is able to rescue the duo from the elevator, seeing the mother and her child to proper care. In the aftermath, Tiff shares the happy news with Alicia over the phone and names her son Rob Junior, in honor of his deceased father. However, the new mother also learns of some distressing news when she finds out that their house has apparently been robbed. The disconcerting news certainly remains troubling. Yet, little does Tiff know there’s a bigger tragedy coming toward her and her baby’s future.

The Chi Season 7 Ending: Does Alicia Die?

Initially, it seems Reg is the biggest problem Alicia might be facing. However, save for some breaking, entering, and stealing, the man does no real harm to her. Instead, danger comes from an entirely unexpected place. Roseyln, Douda’s wife, seems to have recently returned to town. Despite her complicated relationship with her husband, she’s now prepared to avenge his death after finding a posthumous note from him that encourages her to do so. At first, this brings her to Nuck, the person widely believed to be behind the now deceased mob boss’ death. Nonetheless, much like he did with Alicia regarding Rob’s murder, he manages to talk himself out of suspicions.

This time around, Nuck throws Alicia under the bus, insisting that she is the one who pulled the trigger on Douda. Given their evident rivalry, wherein the latter killed the former’s brother, this isn’t a difficult concept to believe. As such, by the end of the night, Roseyln shows up at the Daniels Lafayette residence, armed with her gun. Unlike Nuck, it seems Alicia isn’t nearly as good at talking herself out of trouble. Even though she reveals the truth about the new mob boss’ involvement in the cold-blooded murder of the old one, she also implicates herself in the matter. She reveals that even though she didn’t finish the job, she had very much planned to murder Douda in revenge.

Consequently, Roselyn ends up shooting her husband’s enemy, emptying many bullets into her. Ultimately, it seems, despite having her son’s killer right under her nose, Alicia failed to bring Rob’s death to justice. Worse yet, now, thanks to Nuck, she has lost her own life. The mob boss learns the same when he drops by the house to check on things as a favor to Tiff. Fortunately for him, he has the good sense to flee from the scene before discovery. However, the same cannot be said for Shaad and Victor. Their presence in the wrong place at the wrong time, as the cops circle the premises, promises to bring trouble to their doorsteps in the future. Meanwhile, even though Nuck manages to escape, it’s hard ot imagine he would be safe, especially if Roselyn is still out for blood.

Does Jada Die? Does She Get to Meet Her Grandchild?

Alongside Tiff, another birthing story plays out in the finale. On the same night, Keisha’s water also breaks, sending her and Emmett to prepare for a memorable night. Fortunately, her experience remains much less frustrating than Tiff’s. Keisha had already prepared for a water birth at home with the help of her husband and a doula. Consequently, she only has to focus her energy on getting through labor and giving birth to her baby. Yet, complications brew for the family on another horizon. While this unfolds at Emmett’s house, his mother, Jada, suffers through the worst of her terminal cancer. In the end, Darnell can do little but keep her company in her last moments.

Yet, once Darnell and Jada learn about Keisha’s labor, the latter is filled with a new purpose. Even though she knows her time is near, she doesn’t wish to leave before meeting her grandchild. For the same reason, she convinces Darnell to take her to Emmett’s house so that she can spend her last moments with her son and his newborn baby. Luckily, she arrives just in the nick of time to meet her granddaughter, whom Emmett and Keisha name after her grandmother. Furthermore, Jada also has the opportunity to straighten things out with her son, who reveals that he has no intentions of leaving Chicago. Instead of running away from a dangerous city, he wants to stay and make it a better place. Ultimately, the moment remains a bittersweet one for the family as they lose one of their most treasured members and gain another.
