Is Zay Dead? Did Aaron Guy Leave The Chi?

‘The Chi’ is an ensemble drama show with a fascinating group of characters who have entangled storylines. While characters like Emmett and Papa have been around since the beginning, the story has accumulated a number of other key players over time. Zay seems to be one such individual at the beginning of season 7. He’s set for a rivalry with his cousin and the new head of the 63rd Street Mob, Nuck. After killing Douda, who has been grooming Zay to become his right-hand man, he more or less sealed the fate of the latter’s ambitions. However, as season 7 begins, it seems like Nuck has even more treacherous plans for his ambitious younger cousin. Thus, it seems like the aspirational gangster’s days in Chicago might be numbered. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Zay Falls Victim to Nuck’s Schemes in Season 7

Since his introduction in season 6, Zay has proven himself to be an intriguing addition to the world of ‘The Chi.’ Shortly after his arrival in the city, he becomes involved with the local Mob, making it clear that he’s aspiring to rise through the ranks. As a result, he develops a close relationship with Douda, the long-running crime boss who promises to make the younger man his number 2. Naturally, this creates some friction between Zay and his cousin, Nuck, who has been running with the Mob for a long time. Yet, at the end of the day, the latter squashes that rivalry by killing Douda and establishing himself as the new mob leader.

This new power shift causes a significant setback for Zay. Even though he’s hoping to have a higher position beside his cousin, Nuck makes it clear that he wants other people, like Bakari, by his side. Furthermore, he seems to hold a persistent grudge against the other man. As such, it isn’t long before he arranges to clear him off the game board. After Nuck kills Rob, he runs the risk of earning Alicia as his new enemy. The woman is prepared to go on a rampage to avenge her son’s death. For the same reason, the Mob leader exploits this opportunity to save his own skin and get rid of his cousin in one fell swoop.

Nuck convinces Alicia that Zay is the one responsible for Rob’s death, easily scapegoating his cousin for the messy ordeal. Alicia, in her grief, moves fast without stopping to evaluate the situation. As such, she ends up abducting him and emptying her gun at him. Thus, as of season 7 episode 1, ‘Black Friday,’ Zay is officially dead. His death, though a blow to his promising character, also sets a few things into motion for the rest of the season. With him gone, there are only a handful of people left who can reveal Nuck’s involvement in Rob’s death. This is bound to create some tension between him and Bakari, opening up more avenues for riveting storytelling.

Aaron Guy Seems to Have Taken His Exit From The Chi

Actor Aaron Guy entered into the staggering narrative of ‘The Chi’ with an intriguing air around his character. He added an interesting new perspective to the story, playing his antagonistic role well. Nonetheless, it seems the actor has reached the end of the line in his collaboration with the project. Multiple characters have died in the show over the years, and they’re rarely in the habit of returning. Therefore, with Zay’s fate firmly sealed in the aftermath of Alicia’s violent confrontation, it’s safe to assume Guy will be taking his leave from the show.

‘The Chi’ was Guy’s debut in the world of television. The popular show brought many exciting opportunities his way, laying the earliest foundation of his career. In a 2024 Instagram post, the young actor expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and said, “This photo (season 6 poster of ‘The Chi’) means so much to me!! To be along side people like Kandi Burruss, Curtis Cook, Kadeem Hardison, Ahmad Ferguson, and Cortez Smith is truly an Honor. Kandi Burruss went to my high school and went on to do lots of wonderful things, and for me to be on billboards along side her is truly a blessing and a memory I will forever be thankful for!!” Currently, Guy has no projects lined up for the future. Still, fans can look forward to a promising career if the rest of his filmography continues to be anything like his dazzling time on the show.
