The world of Mimi’s and Frannie’s will remain alive beyond the end of their rivalry! Moviedelic can exclusively reveal that Hallmark has renewed the family drama series ‘The Chicken Sisters’ for its second season. The filming of the upcoming installment will start in Vancouver, British Columbia, this year. Annie Mebane continues to serve as the showrunner, with Kimmy Gatewood, Shannon Kohli, and Monika Mitchell returning to direct. Vanessa Parise has also joined the direction team for Season 2.
In the first season finale, Mimi’s and Frannie’s are pinned against one another at Kitchen Clash, a reality food competition show, to find out who makes the best fried chicken in Merinac. Nancy, Amanda, and Frank from Mimi’s are on one side, and Gus and Mae from Frannie’s are on the other. While the family feud ends with the two families reuniting and establishing a new restaurant, the finale leaves a lot of questions behind that warrant answers.
These questions mainly concern Gus’ multiple sclerosis diagnosis, Sabrina’s conflict about leaving her home in New York to pursue her romantic feelings, and Amanda’s strained relationship with her mother. We can expect Nancy and Gus to form a relationship in the second season. Viewers may also receive more clarity about Mae and Amanda’s father/fathers.
“Once the Mimi’s and Frannie’s rivalry is done, there’s a new rivalry, between mom and pop, corporate versus franchise,” Mebane told Deadline before the second season was renewed, previewing what to anticipate in the same.
Considering how the first season finale concludes, we can expect the return of Schuyler Fisk as Amanda, Lea Thompson as Nancy, James Kot as Frank, Wendie Malick as Gus, and Genevieve Angelson as Mae to the sophomore installment. The returnees may further include Rukiya Bernard as Sabrina, Ektor Rivera as Sergio, and Caitlin Howden as Shawna.
Vancouver is a go-to filming location for Hallmark projects, the recent ones being ‘Falling Together,’ ‘Junebug,’ ‘Sweeter Than Chocolate,’ and ‘Joyeux Noel.’ In addition to the first season of the family drama, the high-profile projects shot in the region include Marvel’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and the FX historical drama series ‘Shōgun.’
