Is Ramona Dead? Did Kate del Castillo Leave The Cleaning Lady?

Season 4 of ‘The Cleaning Lady’ has already brought a tumultuous time for Ramona, the former cartel leader who has been in and out of prison multiple times in a matter of months. Even though she continues to burn bridges, be with her own brother, Jorge, or Sam Heller, her fighting spirit continues to keep her afloat above water. Nonetheless, eventually her rivalry with Thony reaches a tipping point. In the season finale, episode 12, ‘As Time Goes By,’ Ramona leaves no holds barred and goes after the cartel doctor’s son, Luca. Consequently, the confrontation between the two women remains tense, making it clear that only one can walk away from the showdown with their lives. Consequently, the narrative inevitably keeps fans on the edge of their seats when it comes to the fate of the lovable villain. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Thony Buries Ramona Alive at the End of Season 4

Thony and Ramona have been circling around each other for a long time. Although this season finds a moment of peace between the duo, it’s quickly dismantled when the former uncovers the latter’s involvement in Vanessa’s death. Once Jorge learns that his own sister had choked the life out of his wife, he completely abandons her side and swears to exact his revenge upon her. Fortunately for her, the police managed to get their hands on her before Sin Cara’s head could. Nonetheless, the correction facility brings little reform in Ramona’s life, and she only uses this time to devise her family’s downfall.

Despite her failure, Ramona’s partnership with Heller remains. As such, she uses her connections to orchestrate a prison break for herself. Her plan is simple: she wants to kill Thony and Jorge, kidnapping their children to raise them as her own. Simply put, if she can’t have her family with her brother and his wife, she’s happy to cut them out of the picture. Nonetheless, her final confrontation with Thony doesn’t go quite as she expects it to. Fiona’s unexpected intervention gives her sister-in-law the advantage she needs to overpower Ramona and have her at her mercy.

Ultimately, Thony arrives at a weighty conclusion when faced with the choice. She has tried to get rid of Ramona by putting her away in jail multiple times. Yet, that punishment doesn’t seem to stick with the woman. As a result, the cartel doctor realizes that the only way to ensure she and Luca remain safe from her homicidal hands is to end her life. For the same reason, Thony decides to bury Ramona alive in the same grave the latter had dug for the other woman. The ex-cartel leader doesn’t die on screen, and can in fact be seen struggling inside her coffin, six feet underground. While the common logic suggests that she won’t survive the ordeal, when it comes to Ramona and her fighting spirit, nothing is ever entirely unachievable.

Kate del Castillo’s Fate on the Show Will Depend on the Direction Season 5 Takes

Kate del Castillo joined the cast of ‘The Cleaning Lady’ all the way back in season 3, when the Sanchez siblings made their first appearance. The season marked a notable turn in Thony’s story as her narrative shifted from its nucleus around Arman and his syndicate to the Sin Cara cartel. As such, Ramona has been a significant part of the protagonist’s story in many ways, from companion to rival. In the end, the duo’s relationship reaches an extreme in which Thony attempts to rid herself of Ramona entirely by burying her alive. Nonetheless, even though the cartel doctor is hoping this means an end for the other woman, there’s always a chance things might play out differently.

At this point, there’s no concrete way to know how Thony’s arc will play out in the next season. It’s evident from the season 4 finale that her storyline will continue to revolve around the Sin Cara cartel, even after Feng replaces the Sanchez siblings. However, since the show never explicitly confirms Ramona’s death, there’s always a chance she might crawl her way back into Thony’s life one way or another. Should this happen, Castillo will definitely reprise her role on the show and continue to be a part of the project.

Inversely, if season 5 chooses to equip a different creative direction, swerving the protagonist’s story away from the Sanchez family and toward new and exciting dangers, then season 4 might have been the end of the line for the show’s collaboration with Castillo. Nonetheless, even if we have seen the end of Ramona’s reign on ‘The Cleaning Lady,’ fans of the actress have multiple other future projects to look forward to. From films like ‘Shadow,’ ‘The Black Demon: Atlantis,’ and the much-anticipated romance ‘A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow,’ to the biographical show ‘Chavela,’ Castillo has various projects lined up for the future.
