The CW Orders ‘Sweet on You’; Starts Filming in Hamilton Next Month

The CW has greenlit ‘Sweet on You’ for its upcoming lineup of rom-com movies. Moviedelic can announce that the television film is slated to carry out filming in Hamilton, Ontario, this August. Although details about the cast and crew remain under wraps, the movie is an adaptation of Filipino author Carla de Guzman’s 2020 romance novel of the same name.

The plot of ‘Sweet on You’ revolves around Sari Tomas, a dedicated barista and café owner who cherishes her family business and their unique Christmas traditions. Sari’s well-ordered life faces disruption when Gabriel Capras, aka Gabe, a French pastry chef, opens a bakery right next door to her coffee shop. Initially, their relationship is fraught with competition as each strives to outdo the other in attracting customers. Gabe, eager to prove to his father that his chosen career is worthwhile, employs aggressive tactics to win over Sari’s clientele.

As the narrative progresses, sparks fly between Gabe and Sari, putting aside their rivalry and blending competition with blossoming romance. As they see their way through the holiday season, the pair’s newly developed relationship pushes them closer to becoming business partners. Harmonizing Sari’s coffee with Gabe’s pastries, this rivals-to-lovers tale draws parallels to classics like ‘You’ve Got Mail,’ where competition and love intermingle in charming and unexpected ways. Moreover, trivial elements such as coffee, desserts, and Christmas also play significant roles in the background, adding a nuanced depth and festive magic to Guzman’s work while also ensuring the kind of warmth and coziness found in the familial settings of Hallmark’s holiday-themed movies.

The CW is expanding its lineup with several book-to-film adaptations. In addition to ‘Sweet on You,’ upcoming rom-com projects include novelist Pamela Hartshorne’s ‘Ordinary Girl in a Tiara,’ Stefanie London’s ‘The Dachshund Wears Prada,’ and Claire Robyns’ ‘Second-Guessing Fate,’ and many more coming to the screen. Along with the forthcoming premiere of new shows such as ’61st Street,’ ‘Sherlock & Daughter,’ ‘Joan,’ and ‘Good Cop/Bad Cop,’ The CW has all but ensured a variety of entertainment options for audiences through original content.

Since its launch in 2006, The CW has frequently chosen the province of Ontario, particularly Hamilton, as a filming site for its productions. The city has hosted numerous TV projects, including the network’s fellow production, ‘Gotham Knights,’ as well as major hits like ‘The Boys,’ ‘The Umbrella Academy,’ and ‘The Queen’s Gambit.’ Besides bringing a touch of the Philippines for ‘Sweet on You,’ Hamilton has a plethora of forthcoming projects at various networks scheduled for filming in the ongoing summer season. Some of these new shows include the CBC sitcom ‘Small Achievable Goals’ and OWN’ ‘A Season to Remember.’
