Fox’s ‘The Floor’ season 3 is taking the pressure to a new level with the semi-finals in episode 11, titled ‘Bringing Down a Titan.’ There are just 17 contestants left on the floor, although by the end of the night, 8 of them bid goodbye. Kathy Zimmer became the dominating force in the last episode, ‘Courage Under Fire.’ She won not only the last duel but also 31 pieces of turf, alongside the $20,000 prize. Now, all eyes are on her as she tries to decide whether to defend her category of Authors or risk it all with another challenge.
The Game Has Reached a Turning Point as the Undefeated Finally Falters
The game commences as Rob Lowe announces Kathy’s available options. She remarks that three contestants haven’t played yet and would like to sit back and watch how everything unfolds. That said, the Randomizer is activated to choose the first challenger of the semi-finals. It lands under Zaph, who is an expert in the Eras category. He contemplates his two options and states that Brian inherited his category of Fairy Tales and Fables a week prior. Although he is a 9-time duel winner, both of them had the same amount of time to prepare, so he decides to challenge Brian. When Rob asks if Brian is nervous about going home on his tenth duel, he says that even if that happens, he is proud of what he has accomplished. With Zaph declaring his confidence, the first battle of the night commences.
Unlike the other duels, the nerves ultimately get to Brian this time, and he passes multiple times. By the end, Zaph emerges victorious, and Rob is impressed by how he went from 1 piece on the floor to a total of 19 pieces. Brian expresses that he appreciates the chance to play among so many incredible players. In his exit interview, he further discloses that he is not upset since he has made history by winning the most duels. Zaph still has his category of Eras, and after much deliberation, he chooses to duel against Amanda in the category of Languages. Amanda notes that although her opponent is clever, he does not have enough experience on the stage like her.
Rob cautions Zaph that Amanda is also a formidable player before announcing that they must identify the language based on the audio they will hear. The intense battle finally commences, but Amanda is ultimately unable to save the day. She ends up losing the round, while Zaph gains 22 pieces of territory. As Rob reminds him that one more duel can fetch him the crucial time boost, the contestant discloses that he has been reading the category of Authors. However, he wants the extra 5 seconds before that, and hence, chooses to challenge Baron from the Marvel category. Zaph reveals that he is intimidated by his opponent but loves the comic and has watched the movies. On the other hand, Baron is baffled to think why his opponent challenged him because he has been a fan of Marvel since day one.
Surprise Challenges and Sudden Losses Mark the Rise of an Expert
The third duel of the night begins, and the intensity is at an all-time high. With a mere 3 seconds left on the clock, the victory is snatched away from Zaph’s grasp. Meanwhile, Baron wins an impressive 25 turfs of the floor and has inherited the category of Eras. While deciding on his next move, he confuses everyone into thinking he will challenge David in the category of European Geography. Baron selects Clint, who is an expert in the category of Classic Cars. In his confessional, Baron divulges that David is the most formidable competitor and that he may be the only contestant who can take him down. While Baron expresses his excitement by stating he has researched Classic Cars, Clint feels his opponent is trying to understand how much he knows about his category.
The next battle of the night commences, and it becomes pretty evident that it is a tough one. In the end, Baron succumbs to the pressure and loses the duel. Clint has now inherited the category of Eras and won 27 pieces of territory. After much deliberation, he declares that he wants to watch what David has in store. He finally discloses in his confessional that he wants to defend his category, which he has studied hard for, rather than challenge David, a 19-time Jeopardy winner. With just Laurel and David left as the only contestants who have not played a duel, the Randomizer narrows down its choice, and in a nail-biting moment, it ends up choosing David, who is beyond excited to get up on the stage finally.
David has to challenge Clint from the Eras category since it is his only option, but he reveals that history is his strong suit. After he arrives on the stage, the host is shocked to know he has won $780,000 on Jeopardy. Rob tells Clint that it is intimidating, and Clint entirely agrees, stating that it is his time to either go big or go home. This time, the challenge is a little different as the contestants have to identify the Era based on the three clues they will see on the screen. Although Clint starts with unmatched confidence, he passes several times, which seals the deal for him. David emerges as the winner with 28 pieces of the floor and has successfully defended his original category. After much suspense, he decides to go back to his turf since his goal is to win the $250,000 prize.
The Duels Are Getting Personal as a Strategy Point Toward a Sacrifice
David feels that every contestant now has a glimpse of how dangerous he can be, which will instill fear in them, but Lisa desperately wants someone to take him down. Since the Randomizer only chooses players who have not played yet, Rob announces that the next obvious challenger is Laurel. She selects Kathy for the next duel and reveals that she knows her authors because she has been a bookworm since she was 6 years old. However, she notes that the stakes are high because her first duel will be for 32 pieces on the floor. After an intense battle, Kathy becomes the one to bid goodbye to ‘The Floor.’ Laurel has won 32 turfs and has retained her original category of The Crown. Rob announces that she is now in the lead for the $20k win for the night.
After contemplation, Laurel decides to defend her category, which everyone has been afraid of. The host declares that the Randomizer can now select anyone on the floor since everyone has played a duel. It lands under Lisa from the Weddings category. She jokingly remarks that it feels like a deja vu to her because she was also the first contestant to get randomized the first time around. She makes a bold decision to challenge David, who is an expert in the category of Geography. She discloses that she will take a bullet for the other competitors and give David the category of Wedding so that someone can take him down. When Rob asks what Lisa has learned from being on the floor for so long, she remarks that it is either going big or home for her.
Two Final Duels of the Night Make a Power Shift, Posing a Threat to The Crown
The duel between Lisa and David is pretty tough, and Lisa passes several times. David emerges victorious in this round and now has a whopping 30 pieces of territory. As Lisa takes her exit, she opens up and says that no one would have defeated David in his original category, so her actual goal has been achieved. When Rob asks him what he feels about his newly inherited category of Weddings, he confidently declares that he had a great wedding, and this category does not scare him at all. Rob reminds him that if he chooses to challenge Laurel for the last duel of the night, he can be in the lead for $20,000.
David reveals that he had three goals before coming on the floor: to play the last episode, take at least some amount of money, and potentially reach for a time boost in the next episode. After carefully considering his options, he decides to challenge Terry, who is an expert in the category of Water Bodies. Terry is excited about this opportunity because he has studied the category quite well and feels that he can take his opponent down. Rob announces that Laurel has won $10,000 for the night and adds that this duel can just create a tie between her and the winner of the final battle.
As the final duel of the night commences, the tension is higher than ever. Despite his best efforts, Terry fails to save the day and, ultimately, ends up bidding goodbye. Rob announces that David has won the remaining $10,000 of the night, has gained 32 pieces of the floor, and has retained his category of Weddings. With two back-to-back wins under his belt and targets increasing on David’s back, all eyes are now turned to the finals. The question still prevails if David will continue to prevail or if someone else will rise to the occasion and snatch the staggering $250,000 prize by the end.
