Unlike many other trivia games, Fox’s ‘The Floor’ brings 100 contestants on a single floor, facing off in head-to-head challenges to claim territory with their expert category and outlast their opponents. In episode 1 of season 6, titled ‘100 Champions Enter the Ring,’ Rob Lowe returns as the charismatic host, guiding the competitors through the game. This time, the competition welcomes a lineup of champions, title holders, and record holders, each stepping onto the floor to win a quarter of a million dollars. Adding another layer of uncertainty, this season introduces a powerful new weapon that can change who controls the game, forcing the contestants to rethink their moves.
Jena Earns the Victory in the First Duel of the Battle of the Champions
With the beginning of the season’s premiere, Rob Lowe announces that this time the contestants have one thing in common: they are all record holders or champions, including a three-time Women’s NCAA Lacrosse champion, a six-time winner of the USA Memory competition, and an Extreme Pogo world champion. Rob also adds that there will be eight duels tonight, meaning eight people will be eliminated. At the end of the night, the person with the most turfs will win $20,000, and by the end of the competition, only one contestant will win the coveted $250,000 cash prize. This time, there are several expert categories, including MLB, Bedroom Items, and Chemistry.
The Battle of Champions finally begins with the activation of the Randomizer, which selects a 39-year-old Yale Service Medal of Honor winner, James, who is an expert in the category of K-pop Stars. Rob reveals that the contestants can choose to challenge in any of the categories: Trades, Bank Icons, Mini Golf, or Sesame Street. After much consideration, James chooses to battle Mini Golf, which is the category of the 50-year-old Triple Crown Winner, Jena. After arriving on the stage, Rob learns that Jena works with urban resources and is the first woman in history to win a triple crown race.
On the other hand, James reveals that he won a medal during the COVID-19 pandemic for working as a frontline anaesthesiologist. For the first duel of the night, James and Jena must name the items and obstacles they see on the screen. After an intense battle, Jena wins two turfs and inherits the category of K-pop Stars, eliminating her opponent. Rob quickly informs her about her category options, including Trades, Nickelodeon Shows, Brand Icons, Vacation Destinations, and Celebrity Halloween. However, Jena decides to protect herself by returning to the floor, noting that she wants to study K-pop idols more since she has just inherited the category.
Fatima’s Domination in Second and Third Duels Sends Genevieve and Jena Home
As the Randomizer is activated again, it lands under the 35-year-old puppeteering champion, Genevieve, from the Sesame Street category. After carefully considering her category options, which include K-pop Artists and Peanuts Gang, among others, she challenges the Peanuts Gang category expert, Fatima, who is also an Essay Writing Champion. In the second duel, the two contestants must name the Peanuts Gang characters. Unfortunately, a few mishaps and passes bring Genevieve’s journey in the show to an end. Fatima ultimately wins two territories on the floor and inherits the Sesame Street category. After reviewing her options, she moves forward to challenge Jena in the K-pop Artists category.
Fatima feels she has a good chance of winning since Jena has been quite vocal about not knowing much about K-pop Artists. In the third duel, they must correctly name the K-pop groups or artists. Despite a close call, Fatima ultimately wins and earns four turfs, thereby eliminating Jena. Rob then informs Fatima that since she has already won two duels, she can try to win another one to get the Time Boost or the Category Steal. He quickly adds that this season, a new strategic weapon named the Power Shot has been introduced. In that case, if the winner chooses to return to the floor, they can choose who plays next, essentially becoming the human Randomizer. After much deliberation, Fatima decides to return to her turf.
Upon activating the Randomizer, it picks 24-year-old Lego-building Champion, Riley, whose category is Laundry. Upon asking, he explains that he knows many people who do laundry and that he also owns a washer-and-dryer rental business, which is why he has chosen this category as his area of expertise. After considering his options of …Ologies, Latte Art, Christmas Ornaments, and Shipwrecks, he decides to challenge …Ologies category expert, Dr. Tre, who is also a university professor and Toastmasters champion. For the fourth duel, they simply have to identify what is being studied from the picture. The fourth duel concludes with Riley’s elimination, while Dr. Tre earns two turfs and inherits the Laundry category.
Shawn Ends Fatima’s Winning Streak in the Sixth Duel to Claim Five Turfs
Rob eventually informs Dr. Tre about her current options: International Cities, Shipwrecks, Latte Arts, Hotels, and Christmas Ornaments. However, she admits that since she is stressed, she wants to return to the floor. Once the Randomizer is activated again, it selects 52-year-old BBQ world champion Brad, an expert in the Charcuterie Board category. Among his category options of Airband hits, Measurements, and Taxidermy, he chooses to battle against the 29-year-old Measurements category expert, Sabrina. She is also a Speed Puzzling Champion and a maths teacher. Once Sabrina and Brad take their place on the stage, Rob announces that they must identify the unit they see on the screen.
During the fifth duel of the night, Sabrina and Brad use their passes several times, but she emerges victorious in the end. Hence, she wins two turfs and inherits Brad’s expert category. Following that, she carefully looks into her options and decides to return to her turf to collect herself. With the Randomizer activated, it lands under 56-year-old Shawn from the category of Famous Vehicles. It is then revealed that she became Miss Iowa USA in 1997. She carefully considers her category options of Guinness World Records, Sesame Street, Birthday Parties, and Celebrity Halloween before choosing to face off against Fatima. In her confessional, Shawn remarks that since she is a beauty queen, people often underestimate her.
Shawn continues to say that she is quite strategic and she is here to win. She reveals that she has chosen Fatima because the opponent has just inherited Sesame Street and appears nervous. Shawn also targets her fellow competitor’s big turf, which may later give her a chance to win the $20,000. In the sixth duel, both contestants must identify the characters from Sesame Street. Once the intense battle concludes, it leads to Fatima’s elimination. On the contrary, Shawn manages to take control of five turfs and retains her original category. When Rob asks her if she wants to keep playing, she explains that she is keeping the long game in mind and decides to head back to the floor.
Wellington Eliminates Ethan in the Final Duel Before Claiming Three Turfs
The Randomizer is again activated and picks 34-year-old ‘Race to Survive’ Winner, Ethan. He is also a notable expert in the Après Ski category. After Rob tells him he can choose from the categories of Latte Art, WNBA Logos, Home Improvements, and Christmas Ornaments, the competitor decides to challenge the Home Improvements expert, Jake. It turns out that Jake is also the winner of ‘The Voice.’ He soon reveals that, despite being a musician, he used to build houses, which has made him an expert in the field. For the seventh round of the duels, they must name the item or room that is often upgraded during a renovation.
As the battle ensues, the intense back-and-forth comes to an end with Jake’s elimination. In the meantime, Ethan earns two pieces of the floor and retains his original category. After informing him about his options for the last duel of the night, Rob informs the contestant that if he keeps playing, Shawn will earn $20,000. In his confessional, Ethan divulges that his game plan is to be aggressive, but he feels there is a risk, given his options. After the initial turmoil, he finally decides to challenge 43-year-old Wellington from the category of Borrowed Words. It turns out that his opponent is a Pro Bono Counsel Honoree.
Shortly after, Rob announces that Shawn is the winner of the $20,000 prize, since she has the most turfs among all contestants on the floor. As the focus turns to Wellington, he states that he is an International Corporate Attorney and, as such, he loves figuring out different words and languages. After the head-to-head final duel of the night, he emerges victorious, sending Ethan home. Consequently, Wellington earns three turfs and inherits the expert category of Après Ski. To know whether he will choose to play to return to the floor next, we have to wait until the next episode. With just 92 contestants left in the competition and $250,000 on the line, the pressure continues to mount tremendously with every duel.
