The second season of NBC’s ‘The Hunting Party’ comes to an end with an explosive finale that rewrites our understanding of the Pit. It all started with an explosion at one of the secret silos, where serial killers were being held to be studied and experimented upon. Bex Henderson and her team are put on the task of catching all the killers who escaped following the explosion. However, over time, the team discovers that there is much more to the story than they are being told. At the end of Season 2, a new side of the Pit is revealed to them. The Season 2 finale leaves the audience with more questions, but it is not yet confirmed whether they will be answered.
So far, NBC has not passed any decision on the show’s future. Notably, the second season was renewed about a month after Season 1’s finale. This means that we might have to wait a while to find out if there will be a Season 3 for ‘The Hunting Party.’ The network will also want to consider the show’s performance following its release on Netflix U.S. If the show does get a renewal, we won’t have to wait too long for Season 3, as it will most likely premiere in early 2027. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Hunting Party Season 3 Will Reveal an Even Darker Side of the Pit
Over its first two seasons, ‘The Hunting Party’ has built considerable mystery surrounding what was actually going on at the Pit. At first, it seemed to be a place where serial killers were experimented on. Then, it turns out that they are trying to find a way to “cure” the serial killers. Then, it turns out that some serial killers have already been “rehabilitated” and are not only free but also serving in significant posts in the military. The second season builds the mystery around the Pit’s first graduate, Lazarus. In the end, she tries to run away while trying to continue the program on her own. But thanks to Bex and her team, her plan is foiled. But soon, it is revealed that Lazarus and her secrets were just the tip of the iceberg.

Bex, Hassani, and Shane meet Beaumont, one of the people who established the Pit and started the whole thing with the experiments and whatnot. With Lazarus and Mallory out of the picture, someone needs to take control of the operation, and Beaumont makes Bex in charge. When she receives the list of the serial killers that they need to catch, she finds it to be longer than the one they were initially given. This is when Beaumont reveals that these are not the killers they may have heard of before. These were the killers in the making, because not only was the Pit a place to study serial killers, but also a place to create them. This information is shocking, but it also explains Shane’s birth in the Pit and why he was being studied as a child.
This means that while he might have been the first kid born there, he wasn’t the last. Moreover, while he got out and built a different life for himself, the other kids didn’t get this opportunity, and a lot of them have turned into psychopathic killers. This gives the story an even darker turn, particularly Shane’s, who will be forced to wonder whether he, too, deep down, has similar traits. While he goes through this existential crisis, he will have to continue working with Bex and Hassani to figure out what other secrets are lurking in the depths of the Pit. More importantly, they will continue the job of catching the killers, though things will be significantly more difficult this time around.
The Hunting Party Season 3 Will Add New Characters
‘The Hunting Party’ Season 3 will bring back the core team. This includes Melissa Roxburgh as Rebecca “Bex” Henderson, Patrick Sabongui as Jacob Hassani, Josh McKenzie as Shane Florence, and Sara Garcia as Maj. Jennifer Morales. While Luke Forbes’ Jonathan Peck was a major addition to the main cast in Season 2, the turn of events at the end means that he won’t be a part of the team anymore. This, however, does not mean that he is completely out of the picture. He will most likely have a recurring role, where more details about his connection to Lazarus come to light.

With Zabryna Guevara’s Elizabeth Mallory and Kari Matchett’s Eve Lazarus dead, Bex and her team will have new people to answer to. While characters like Beaumont have already been introduced at the end of Season 2, a new boss might emerge to keep track of the team’s movements and progress regarding the capture of the escaped inmates. At the same time, the show will continue the case-of-the-week format, which means more members will be added to the guest cast, particularly in the roles of serial killers.
