Apple TV+’s ‘The Last Frontier’ begins with a plane crash, which lets loose several criminals, one of whom is Havlock, a CIA asset who turned rogue. Frank Remnick is put in charge of rounding up all these criminals, but he soon finds himself drowning in another investigation, spearheaded by CIA agent Sidney Scofield. Over the course of the season, shocking truths come to light, causing Frank to reconsider who the good and bad guys are in this battle. The season ends on a bittersweet note for the protagonists, but it also leaves the door open for a second season. So far, Apple TV+ has not renewed the show; however, if it does, the second season is not expected to air until 2027. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Last Frontier Season 2 Will Put Frank Back in the Fray
The final episode of ‘The Last Frontier’ Season 1 ties up the loose ends, bringing an end to Frank’s mission, which had always been about capturing the escaped convicts. He has already done that. Meanwhile, Bradford’s truth has come to light, and Frank has, once again, done his job by forwarding the hard drive with the Archive and all of Bradford’s plans to a trusted politician who will ensure that all the guilty parties pay for their actions. He knows that a dead body has been found and is believed to be Havlock, and even though he knows it’s probably not Havlock, he has washed his hands of the whole thing. Or so he thought. In the end, he gets a call from Havlock telling him that there is a lot more left for him to do, and he cannot simply recede in the shadows, especially now that Bradford’s crimes are going to come to light.

It can be assumed that she wasn’t working alone, and some very powerful people would have been aware of what she was doing. This means that the case is not yet closed, and since Frank passed on the hard drive and knows everything about it, he remains an integral part of the narrative. In the following season, we expect to see the proper investigation into Bradford’s crimes unfold. At the same time, Frank will eventually have to come face-to-face with the mistake he made that led to his daughter’s death. While he throws away the gun on Sarah and Luke’s behest, he knows that things like these have a way of coming into the light. As he prepares to fight new enemies, he must also prepare to face the consequences of his past actions, since all of his mistakes and flaws will be used against him.
The Last Frontier Season 2 Will Introduce New Villains
At the end of ‘The Last Frontier’ Season 1, Frank Remnick gets a call, revealing that he is still connected to the mess that he thought he’d cleaned up. This means that he will remain an important part of the story going forward, which means Jason Clarke will return to reprise the role. In the same vein, Havlock and Sidney are also not out of the picture yet, and they will do everything in their power to make sure that Bradford’s lies come to light, which means we will see Dominic Cooper and Haley Bennett again. Because Frank’s family remains an important part of his life, Simone Kessell and Tait Blum will return as Sarah and Luke Remnick. Since Frank will be entering uncharted territory, he will need someone he can trust completely, and given how much he relies on his best friend this season, it would be imperative for Dallas Goldtooth to return as Hutch.

The finale sees a lot of bloodshed, including Jacqueline Bradford’s fall to her death. While we don’t see a dead body, it is hinted that her body was found, or at least, whatever’s left of it. This, however, doesn’t confirm that it is the last we have seen of Alfre Woodard. The show still has a lot of explaining to do, which means flashbacks might be used, allowing Bradford to reappear in the picture. In the same vein, Anthony Skordi’s Vincent Thiago was an integral part of Sidney’s plan, and since he is still alive and in prison, he could become an important piece of the puzzle in whatever chaos erupts next. Additionally, new characters are expected to join the show to unravel Frank’s future as the sins of his past still loom large over him.
The Last Frontier Season 2 Will Dig Deeper Into the Gray Line Between Good and Bad
One of the things ‘The Last Frontier’ does really well is to lean into the idea that no one is all good or all bad. The characters propped up as villains in the beginning turn out to be the ones fighting for what’s right, and the ones supposed to be good are revealed to have a dark side. The second season is expected to build upon this idea by giving us more insight into the actions of all the characters. By the end, Sidney and Havlock appear to be one of the good guys, but it is also clear that both of them have a dark side, which leads them to put the lives of others in jeopardy, intentionally or unintentionally, so that they can get what they want.

Similarly, Frank is introduced as a reputable citizen and law enforcement officer. But he, too, has indulged in unlawful things and paid the price. As the show delves back into their world, a greater picture of their past and, more importantly, their future choices will come to light, making the audience wonder whether to root for them. At the same time, the new villains that we meet will also have a touch of goodness about them, which will give the audience enough to sympathise with them, even as they make some atrocious choices.
