Will Frank Langdon be Fired and Dana Evans Leave the Hospital in The Pitt? Theories

While ‘The Pitt‘ reasonably wraps up its first season without many loose ends, some burning questions remain regarding two central characters within the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center – Frank Langdon and Dana Evans. At the end of season 1, Langdon and Evans are seemingly on their way out of the hospital for entirely different reasons, which could change the team’s composition moving forward. As the inaugural installation ends before we get a concrete resolution to their circumstances, questions are raised about the two Pittsburgh Trauma Medical workers and whether they will ever return to the halls of the hospital for a second season. The last few episodes provide more context to these complex questions, even though their fate remains in the air. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Frank Langdon Might Lose His Medical License

In season 1, we learn that Frank Langdon is stealing hospital supplies to facilitate his seeming drug addiction. While he refutes these claims, Robby is incensed beyond belief when he learns that one of his trusted seniors could be a drug addict, which, alongside his misappropriation, could land the senior attending and the rest of the hospital in hot waters ethically. After investigating by herself, Santos informs Robby about Langdon’s illicit affairs, which compels the protagonist to throw Langdon out of the hospital. However, this impromptu firing is momentarily reversed when the Pittfest massacre takes place. Langdon returns to help out around the place. With the hospital short on staff and resources, Robby allows the senior resident to contribute even though he is unhappy with everything Langdon did.

During the final episode, Langdon finally gets to converse with Robby about the incident, making a renewed plea about staying on with the PTMC crew. He even asks Robby to keep silent about finding the drugs in his locker, which sounds shady to the senior attending. The protagonist becomes angry with Langdon for suggesting that a huge medical offense like this could be ignored. By the end, it is hinted that Robby is prepared to report Langdon’s behavior to upper management, who will be forced to let go of the doctor to preserve their image and the integrity of the hospital as an institution. This could mean Langdon does not return for season 2 as he might lose his medical license. We still have to wait for the second season to confirm his fate, but things aren’t looking too good for him.

Dana Evans Might Resign From Her Post

Although Frank Langdon may have shot himself in the foot when it comes to his career, the same cannot be said for Dana Evans, the PTMC’s beloved charge nurse. She weathers through a variety of issues as Robby’s trusted helper, often playing as big a role as the senior attending himself. However, her zeal to continue her job crumbles after she is attacked on the hospital’s ground floor by an ungracious patient named Doug Driscoll. The man sucker-punches her, leaving her bloodied and worse for wear. More than the physical injuries, though, her psyche is affected by the assault, forcing her to reconsider her reasons for working in the healthcare industry. It touches upon the reality faced by many medical professionals who often become the targets of violent crimes despite trying their best to save lives.

Following her run-in with Driscoll, Dana states she is considering leaving the job for good. Later in the story, we learn that she is definitely planning on resigning during a conversation with Langdon, who wants her to side with him in case Robby comes after him again. However, Dana is beyond caring as she is already mentally checked out of the hospital. It is also possible that the overwhelming events of season 1’s dayshift just had a resounding effect on Dana, making her realize that she was burnt out from her job. To that end, Driscoll’s attack may have just been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Her decision is likely based on her circumstances and her family life with her husband. This potentially means we don’t see her in season 2, even though she has been an integral part of the PTMC for a long time. Still, there is always a chance she will rescind her decision.
