Based on the novel of the same name by John Grisham, ‘The Rainmaker’ is a legal drama series that chronicles the journey of a young lawyer trying to make a name for himself in the field of law. The story follows hotshot young lawyer Rudy Baylor, who loses his job at a law firm after voicing his opinion. When he feels that his career is over, one of his friends helps him find a job and introduces him to Jacelyn “Bruiser” Stone, who is running a small law firm out of a former restaurant. Bruiser hires him instantly, and soon, they all find themselves tangled in a high-stakes case that tests their limits inside and outside the courtroom. However, things take a dramatic turn when the case pits the young lawyer directly against his former employer, forcing him to confront buried tensions.
As the story progresses, Baylor comes face-to-face with challenges as he tries to prove his worth as a lawyer. Moreover, he discovers that the fight won’t just unfold inside the courtroom, but will spill over into his personal life, testing his resilience and principles at every turn. With its compelling narrative and thrilling twists, the show delves deeper into the world of law and how lawyers navigate complex cases while balancing ethics, ambition, and personal challenges. To bring these complexities to life, the project is recorded in locations that make the storyline richer and immerse viewers in the authentic atmosphere of the legal world. Thus, making its setting a pivotal part of the plot.
The Rainmaker Filming Locations
Even though the story is set in the US, ‘The Rainmaker’ is shot extensively in Ireland, particularly in Dublin and Wicklow. The principal photography on the Milo Callaghan starrer began in October 2024 and seemingly continued until March 2025. The stars of the show had a great time while shooting in the country mentioned above. Some of the cast members didn’t miss a chance to explore the nation, which is popular for its diverse landscapes and beautiful scenery. Consequently, they thoroughly enjoyed the production process and did their best to ensure it went smoothly.
Dublin, Ireland
While the narrative of Rudy Baylor trying to make a name for himself in the world of law is set in South Carolina, the production team of ‘The Rainmaker’ decided to keep the base for lensing in the city of Dublin. Situated in the county of Leinster, Dublin is the capital of Ireland and is also the nation’s most populous city on the island. The production team started taping sequences in October 2024 and didn’t shy away from using the gorgeous landscapes to enhance the visual storytelling, blending scenic beauty with the tension and drama of the legal battles. As the story mainly focuses on a case that revolves around medical negligence, many of the critical incidents unfold within a hospital. To make the hospital scenes more authentic, the crew filmed several essential scenes in a real hospital in Dublin. The team reportedly lensed the hospital sequences inside St. Mary’s Hospital, which is located at Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, in Dublin.
The medical facility provides stroke rehabilitation to patients of all ages. However, they changed the name of the hospital to North City Hospital, which was a creative decision by the makers. This decision allowed them to craft a fictional setting that fits seamlessly into the narrative. On the other hand, the production crew used several locations in The Fair City to tape pivotal scenes and make them look like the places in the US. The stars of the show had a lot of fun while shooting the series and explored the nation during off-time. Moreover, it gave them the time to bond with the other crew members. While talking about shooting in Ireland and creating good memories with the other cast members, actor Lana Parrilla said, “Being in Ireland, being in a new country, being overseas, and getting out of your comfort zone, you immediately gravitate toward one another. Sometimes it could backfire, but it worked out, and everyone is so spectacular.”
Meanwhile, Robyn Cara, who had previously shot in Ireland, took some cast members for a sea swim. The stars embraced the experience of exploring Dublin by stepping out of the filming locations, making the shoot memorable for themselves. Despite being the most populous city in Ireland, The Big Smoke is one of the most popular filming destinations in the world. Every major production house chooses the nation and its capital for its excellent film infrastructure. The city provides a captivating blend of historical and modern settings, making it a great filming location. The city’s mix of historic Georgian streets and modern structures offers directors a wide range of visual settings to bring their stories to life. Its compact size and efficient transportation services make it easier for crews to travel between shooting locations. Moreover, the Irish government gives a lot of tax incentives for production, which makes it a famous filming location. Apart from ‘The Rainmaker,’ high-end titles such as ‘Foundation,’ ‘Drop,’ ‘Normal People,’ ‘Irish Blood,’ ‘In The Name of The Father,’ and ‘Veronica Guerin’ are shot in the abovementioned city.
Wicklow County, Ireland
Apart from shooting in Dublin, the production team recorded some sequences in Wicklow County. Towns such as Bray and Wicklow were used as primary locations for shooting. According to a casting advertisement, the shooting in Bray took place on December 17, 2024. The ad indicates that the shooting took place for only a day. On the other hand, various sequences were taped in Wicklow, popularly known as the Garden of Ireland, for its stunning natural beauty. The crew took advantage of the town’s mountainous regions and coastline to make it look like South Carolina. Some of the scenes were shot at the Ardmore Studios, situated at Herbert Road, Killarney, in Bray. Ardmore Studios is the oldest film studio in Ireland and opened in 1958.
The facility provides all the essentials of a full-fledged film studio, including sound stages, production offices, workshops, hair and makeup facilities, props, wardrobe, catering, and a host of other resources. It consists of five soundstages ranging in area from 3,000 to 23,250 square feet. Over the years, many production houses have chosen Wicklow County as one of their preferred locations for shooting. Titles such as ‘Moonflower Murders,’ ‘The Great Train Robbery,’ ‘The Running Man,’ ‘The Tiger’s Tail,’ and ‘Jack Taylor’ have been shot in the abovementioned county.
