Who is Skip Tracer Randy in The Rookie? Who Plays Him?

The seventeenth episode of ‘The Rookie,’ titled ‘Mutiny And The Bounty,’ marks the return of a recurring character, Skip Tracer Randy, who lights up the screen with his larger-than-life presence and eccentric requests. The episode mainly centers on Randy asking Bailey and Nolan to help him on his quest to ask out Chastity Sneed. It opens the doors to all sorts of amusing interactions, which is usually the norm whenever the former bounty hunter takes charge of a storyline. While he is generally known for stealing the limelight due to his goofy shenanigans, his intentions in episode 17 are largely centered on matters of the heart. However, in typical fashion, it ends up leading to some unintended consequences, showcasing how things are always entertaining when he is involved.

Skip Tracer Randy Professes His Love For Chastity

The first appearance by Skip Tracer Randy was in season 4 when we are introduced to him as a bounty hunter. Randy catches everyone’s attention because of his chaotic energy, which only keeps increasing with each subsequent inclusion in the series. In season 6, with Bailey and Nolan’s wedding on the horizon, Randy accidentally sells the former’s ring, which inadvertently ends up with a criminal known as The Hammer. The character has repeatedly shown a penchant for messing things up despite having a boisterous attitude towards life and infectious positivity. In some ways, it showcases his naivety, making him a welcome addition to the show. His episodes are generally the source of unbridled chaos, which is also the case in the penultimate episode of season 7.

After appearing on Nolan and Bailey’s doorstep, Randy asks the married duo for some support in his quest to ask out Chastity Sneed. As per his own admission, he felt a real connection with her after spending his time talking with her in his earlier appearance. However, there is one problem in making his relationship with Chastity official – she is dating Peter Nolan. In characteristic fashion, Randy is least bothered about attracting the ire of her current boyfriend and more concerned about how he can woo her away from him. He believes that his newfound Bitcoin wealth, which he seemingly came upon out of nowhere, can be instrumental in proving his value to her. Therefore, he decides to focus on a mainly materialistic route to win her heart, turning him into the literal personification of a “sugar daddy.”

Flula Borg Turns on the Comedic Charm as Skip Tracer Randy in The Rookie

Skip Tracer Randy and his endless misadventures are brought to life by the talented actor, musician, and comedian Flula Borg. He has appeared in the series in a recurring capacity, sprinkling some joy amidst the rest of the serious storylines. However, the seventeenth episode of season 7 is his first opportunity to stretch his legs as part of a larger narrative that connects to a criminal case being investigated by the Mid-Wilshire Division. In an interview with Deadline, creator Alexi Hawley shared his thoughts on Borg’s increased role in season 7, stating, “We love Flula, Skip Tracer Randy is a favorite of ours on the show… Flula is just a force of nature and a joy to watch. Not to use term chaos agent but definitely makes things a little crazy.”

Outside his work on ‘The Rookie,’ Borg is best known for playing Crane in ‘My Spy: The Eternal City,’ Javelin in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ Joel in ‘Silicon Valley,’ and Pieter Krämer in ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’ He has also expanded his repertoire by taking on several voice acting roles in animated projects like ‘Teen Titans Go!,’ ‘Captain Fall,’ ‘Archer,’ ‘Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure,’ ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet,’ and ‘Aquaman: King of Atlantis.’ The actor originally came into focus because of his work on YouTube, where he shined a comedic light on American culture through numerous original songs, remixes, and vlogs. In ‘The Rookie,’ he channels his inner enthusiasm even more as his character serves as a catalyst for some of the more bizarre and enjoyable exchanges on the ABC show.
