The Royals Recap

Aviraaj and Sophia’s paths first cross in Sri Lanka, where a charming first meeting at the beach and a coincidental link-up at an afterparty lead them to almost hook up together. Nonetheless, their evening is cut short by hasty assumptions and quick-fired shots about the other’s personality. Alas, since neither is expecting to see the other ever again, they end up going their separate ways. Aviraaj has to return home to attend the will-reading of his father, the former Maharaja of Morpur. The reading ends up taking a surprising turn when the family finds out that, not only has the patriarch left the crown to Aviraaj, the flighty Prince’s name, but he has also left all his financial assets to some man called Maurice.

Meanwhile, Sophia pitches her latest project, a royal B&B experience, to her board members, only to be met with significant reluctance. Still, she and her amicable ex-turned-business-partner, Kunal, manage to convince the board to give their project a chance on a steep deadline. As a result, the businesswoman finds herself in need of a Palace around the same time that the residents of Morpur’s Motibagh Palace come under severe financial distress. Thus, it isn’t long before Sophia ends up knocking at Motibagh’s palace. Even though it’s jarring to learn that the place belongs to her hook-up-gone-wrong, the location remains perfect for her project.

Likewise, Aviraaj would like to turn her away, and even tries to, by contacting another hospitality business. However, it’s evident that her plans of turning Motibagh into an immersive hotel experience are in the best interests of his family. After the deal is initially struck, the Prince tries to run away to New York, only to stay back and face his responsibilities as a king-to-be, mostly in order to prove Sophia wrong. As such, the duo finds themselves forced into close proximity, which remains a source of consistent conflict. Aviraaj’s complicated relationship with his dead father regularly comes in the way of accepting his new role, which in turn affects Sophia’s work.

Simultaneously, the CEO’s impulsivity in her attraction toward Aviraaj and Kunal often lands her in trouble. Eventually, things come to a head when the Prince’s mother, Paddy, uses Sophia’s royal/commoner ball to play matchmaker with her son and his ex-girlfriend, Princess Ayesha. Miscommunication about this invitation drives a new wedge between the Prince and the CEO, jeopardizing the latter’s career even further. Still, with some perspective, Aviraaj is able to fix things up with her and even begins a tentative relationship with her. However, things get complicated when his coronation arrives on the same day that Sophia’s board of directors manages to muscle her out of her own company. The couple’s relationship faces the worst of the fallout as the former CEO retreats to her grandparents’ house. Still, the Prince tries to make amends by ending the contract with Work Potato, only to end up on the receiving end of a lawsuit. Thus, everything comes crashing down all at once, leaving Aviraaj and Sophia’s fates up in the air.

The Royals Ending: Do Aviraaj and Sophia End up Together? Why Does He Drop Her Hand?

Aviraaj and Sophia’s relationship is tumultuous from the very start. Even though their attraction toward each other is evident throughout the story, their inability to effectively communicate with each other ends up being their doom time and again. Additionally, their working relationship also complicates matters in significant ways. The fate of Sophia’s career is directly linked to Aviraaj’s complex relationship with his royal title. For the same reason, despite his growing feelings for her, he can’t help but consistently grow frustrated with their dynamic. Likewise, the Prince’s antics run a high cost for Sophia, who is already backed into a corner by her board of directors.

For the same reason, Aviraaj’s coronation forces him to confront his complicated relationship with his father, which nearly tears the two apart. In the end, Zubin’s blindsiding tactics of driving Sophia away hammer in the final nail in the coffin of the couple’s relationship. In light of the professional disaster, the former CEO hides away while the Prince-turned-King is forced to deal with the fate of Motibagh. This brings a stark reversal of roles in their dynamic wherein Aviraaj has to chase after Sophia and prove that he’ll be there for her through thick and thin. As a result, the adverse situations finally bring him to a place where he can confront his true emotions and admit that he’s in love with the former CEO.

Sophia has previously been reluctant to put her trust in Aviraaj, but this confession allows her to feel confident in their feelings for one another. Therefore, as the couple finally comes together, honest and transparent about their love for one another, they’re able to work together to fix the nightmarish situation unfolding around them. Eventually, with the help of Maurice, the former King’s apparent secret lover and life partner, the royal family saves their beloved Motibagh and returns their name to its noble glory. Yet, one unexpected threat sneaks up on them seemingly out of the blue. During a press conference headed by Aviraaj and Sophia, where the two discuss their latest venture and even hint at their relationship with the press, unexpected news drops about Morpur’s crowned King.

The news asserts that Aviraaj isn’t actually Yuvanath Singh’s biological child, but rather the illegitimate child of Queen Padmaja. This is jarring news for everyone, including the King, who is forced to reevaluate his entire life in light of the truth-bomb. Even though Sophia attempts to be by his side in the aftermath, helping him escape the media and return to Motibagh, once they arrive at the palace, he drops her hand and walks away alone. The insinuation of the instance is clear: Aviraaj has no idea how to deal with this news, and he’s choosing to distance himself from his lover as a harsh self-preserving reaction. He’s already new to showcasing his vulnerability to others. For the same reason, the idea of being stripped of his rightful title might be too overwhelming for him to stomach with a precarious new relationship by his side. Therefore, it seems, despite their moment of happiness, the couple is back at an uncertain crossroads. Ultimately, the fate of their relationship remains ambiguous, with no clear indication of whether or not they’ll be able to weather this storm together.

Who Leaked The News About Aviraaj?

The startling revelation about Aviraaj’s parentage begs many questions, such as the identity of his biological father. Nonetheless, the more pressing question remains about the person behind this leak. Over the years, Padmaja and Vuynath managed to keep many secrets from the press and their children, including the fact that their relationship was a lavender marriage. Even though this brought multiple complications to the relationship between Yuvanath and Aviraaj, who blamed his father for choosing to stay away from the family, the couple remained firm in their decision. Eventually, his death and Aviraaj’s subsequent coronation reveal the true nature of the former King’s relationship with Maurice.

Furthermore, in the wake of Yuvanath’s death, Padmaja also discovers that Maurice is planning on penning a memoir, revealing the reality of their relationship to the world, as per the King’s dying wishes. Predictably, the Queen is afraid that this might shine a negative light on her family, particularly because of the secret she is harboring about her eldest son. Nonetheless, despite their differences, Maurice assures her he’ll leave her children out of his book, affording them their privacy. Even in the aftermath of the leaked news, he insists that the information hadn’t come from him. Fortunately, Padmaja discovers the real person behind the sabotage soon enough.

Dhondi, Ayesha’s father and Padmaja’s recent short-lived affair, sends her a message asserting the legitimacy of the threat he had once made about picking up a rivalry with him. The King has long been eager to strike up a marriage between his daughter and the Prince of Morpur. Consequently, he was pleased at Padmaja’s attempt to bring their kids together again. Nonetheless, in the end, she allows her son his autonomy and drives the Dhondis away from Morpur. For the same reason, the King of the competing kingdom holds a grudge against the royal family and is willing to resort to any measures to obstruct their growing success. As such, he had leaked the secret about Aviraaj’s biological parentage to the press.

Do They Save Motibagh? Does Sophia Get Her Company Back?

Even amidst the growing chaos around Sophia and Aviraaj’s lives, some part of their narrative prioritizes the personal stakes they have in the outcome of their fight against Zubin. After Work Potato unfairly fires the CEO and sues the Morpur royal family, they directly put the former’s hard-earned career and the Prince’s Motibagh palace at risk. Even so, the duo retains their fighting spirit and makes one final Hail Mary play to save themselves. They decide to host a fundraising fashion show event to raise enough money to save Motibagh. By doing so, Aviraaj gets to hold onto a crucial part of his family’s life, and Sophia gets to prove her skills as a businesswoman. In the end, despite their best efforts, they end up a few million rupees short.

Fortunately for them, Maurice also shows up at the event and gets the chance to visit the Yuvanath Singh Memorial Museum, which Sophia renovates in the former King’s chambers. So far, Maurice’s only gripe with the royal family is the way they patently excluded him from his lover’s life, even during the latter’s dying days. For the same reason, he covets the gifts that the King leaves him behind in his will. Nonetheless, all he ever really wanted was to feel close to his lover, and not just from the shadows. Therefore, after deciding to publish his memoir and earning some of Padmaja’s acceptance, he decides to offer Yuvanath’s assets back to his family.

Yet even though this one act saves the day, complications remain in the Prince’s and the CEO’s paths. In the aftermath of the fashion show’s success, Zubin attempts to get Sophia back to Work at Potato. Nonetheless, she decides to close the chapter on her old company and start a new business, this time in collaboration with Aviraaj. Nonetheless, the abrupt revelation of his parentage poses some difficulties. Given the fact that Aviraaj is Padmaja’s biological son and not Yuvanath, it will likely cause some problems in his reign, at least in terms of public relations. The same, paired with the uncertain nature of his and Sophia’s relationship, can also cause some problems in the latter’s professional life. Ultimately, trouble continues to loom on the horizon, putting the couple’s relationship and personal lives at stake.
