Over the years, creating colorful memories has become a joyful experience for all ages. The dynamic sibling duo Katie and Kevin Tague began Tipsy Tie Dye as a simple tie-dye venture, which has since evolved into a party destination that combines art with entertainment. Whether it’s a playful afternoon with the kids or a lively night out with friends, the brand store pairs tie-dye sessions with fun drinks and curated activities that appeal to every age group. Their appearance on season 1 episode 5 of Fox’s ‘The Fixer’ offered a close look at the heart of the business and how the owners decided to expand their business.
Tipsy Tie Dye: Who Are They and What Do They Do?
Before founding Tipsy Tie Dye, Katie Tague attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design – The New School in 2007. She then completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Gies College of Business – University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. However, she entered her professional life in 2007 as an Assistant Designer for Baby Togs. In December of that year, she moved on to become an Associate Designer at Fishman and Tobin, serving till May 2010. Katie then joined The Children’s Place as a Boys Woven Designer, before getting promoted to Design Manager. She left the organization in January 2013 and took on the role of Senior Designer for children’s denim at Ralph Lauren, and eventually became Design Director. She served there till April 2017 and stepped in as the Creative Director, Teacher, and Consultant at KT Selvedge two months later.
Katie simultaneously became the Vice President of Denim Development and Sales at Raymond Limited in January 2019. Although she left both positions in April 2021, the idea of Tipsy Tie Dye was formed in October 2018. With Katie’s background in fashion design and Kevin’s background as a chemist, they decided to create something joyful and creative and ultimately launched the brand in May 2019. Side-by-side, Katie became a Guest Lecturer at Polimoda in April 2024. Two months later, she also joined as Vice President of Global Marketing and Sales at Artistic Milliners, and now serves as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Sales. Kevin Tague earned a Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry from DePaul University in 2013. However, he began his career in June 2011 as a Teaching Assistant at the University. He later became a Researcher/Lab Manager and moved on in June 2013.
Kevin then served as a contractual Research Analyst -Bioanalysis for AbbVie until August 2014. From September of the same year to April 2015, he was a contractual Quality Assurance and Research Analyst at S.A. Analytical for the Division of Nexus Pharmaceuticals. Two months later, he joined VictusArs Inc. as a New Product Developer and Research Chemist and worked there till March 2016. In the following November, Kevin took on the position of Washhouse Director at the BPD Washhouse and has served there ever since. Besides that, he has been a Freelance Consultant for Bubby Denim since May 2019. Following the launch of Tipsy Tie Dye, the siblings have popped up at several community spaces across Hoboken, New Jersey, before setting up at a permanent location in the same area. They have created an identity as an LGBTQ-owned company that celebrates life, love, and inclusivity.
When the owners appeared on the show, they wanted to secure an investment from Marcus Lemonis to franchise their concept and expand the business. When they were reluctant to change their ways despite advice from the investor, Marcus chose to walk away, explaining he couldn’t invest in them if they were unwilling to be “open-minded.” Tipsy Tie Dye follows a straightforward concept, in which the customers can purchase a ticket for their experience and then pick from a wide array of dyeable merchandise like T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, and many more. After selecting their canvas, they are guided through folding to ensure the perfect whirl or stripe design. The next step is to move to the coloring station, followed by soaking. Guests can take their piece home the same day or opt for the store’s wash and dry service. They provide home care instructions, including rinsing the item in cold water for at least 12 hours in a stain-resistant sink.
