Do Shane and Kelly End Up Together in Tires?

While season 2 of ‘Tires‘ follows in the footsteps of the inaugural season by delving into more misadventures within the confines of Valley Forge Automotive Center, the show also introduces a host of new storylines that push our beloved characters towards new extremes. One such development is an unexpected romance between Shane and a girl named Kelly Miller. After crossing paths with one another at the auto-repair garage, the two seemingly hit it off when it comes to their witty banter and a kindred sense of goofiness, causing Shane to fall for the girl over the course of the narrative. It adds a unique spin to the workplace comedy series as it shows him in a new light while also creating expectations within the audience for an unlikely ship that goes down a tricky route. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Shane and Kelly’s Misunderstandings Eventually Lead to a Breakup

Despite getting along with one another like a house on fire at the beginning, Shane and Kelly’s relationship quickly devolves into chaos, insecurities, infidelity, and he-said-she-said territory by the end. It is sad for fans to witness how it all falls apart, given the strength of their charming bond in the initial phase, one that is predicated on their similarly weird and goofy personalities. However, fractures appear during the big reopening event when Shane notices Kelly getting along with her co-worker, Ollie, in an aggressively touchy-feely way. He is immediately thrown off by seeing Kelly interact with Ollie in such a manner, convinced that he has plans of having sex with her himself. When he confronts Kelly about this, she gets defensive and disagrees with all his claims, which puts them both at a “standstill.”

Later, determined to fix his relationship with Kelly, Shane visits her at the catering store with a bouquet of flowers. Unfortunately, his good gesture is met with a slap in the face because he stumbles across Kelly kissing Ollie in the backroom, thereby confirming his earlier suspicions. However, unbeknownst to him, neither Kelly nor Ollie had any feelings for one another before Shane accused them of having an attraction. Kelly states that because Shane put the idea in their heads in the first place, she started to consider having an affair with Ollie. In short, what begins as a sweet bond between two similar people with a humorous mindset quickly spirals into a toxic relationship brimming with insecurities, cheating, and profound misunderstandings. As a result, Shane and Kelly end up breaking up with each other in season 2’s end.

Shane and Kelly Have a Strong Rapport at the Start

Although Shane and Kelly end things at the end of season 2, it still does not change the fact that the duo have a unique way of looking at the world and making fun of morbid things in equal measure. This is the main reason why Shane is attracted to Kelly. His first introduction to her is in season 2, episode 3 when the entire Valley Forge Automotive Center employees are worried that the black mold on their garage walls could have debilitating health effects in the future. Even Shane, who is normally quite blasé and factitious about serious subjects, finds himself worried about a painful death because of the health concerns of being exposed to black mold. As such, Kelly teases him about the topic by making fun of his worries, which causes him to fall for her. He asks her out on a date immediately after.

Midway through the narrative, Kelly and Shane face their first roadblock when the latter sees him under the effects of cocaine at the garage. It leads her to believe that maybe Shane is not the person she thinks he is. This becomes further exacerbated when Shane’s dad, Phil, tells her that he caught his son flirting with a waitress at Applebee’s, a lie that makes Kelly think she is wasting her time on Shane. Nevertheless, Shane does not give up on his feelings for Kelly and shows up at her workplace to make their relationship official, thereby clearing up any confusion moving forward. However, as we witness in the last parts of season 2, this period of positivity is short-lived as the internal issues of both characters lead them to complicate their bond, which eventually fragments into pieces.
