‘Too Much’ is a Netflix drama series that follows the life of Jessica Salmon, a woman from New York who moves to London in search of a fresh start in her career, and hopes to find the love of her life in a strange new city. One of her major companions throughout the series is her dog named Astrid. The four-legged mate is always there for her whenever she finds herself emotional and needing a friend. Astrid is rescued by Felix when Jessica accidentally sets herself on fire in an early episode. She plays a vital part in the couple’s relationship and becomes part of their conversations directly and indirectly. However, Astrid has her own vulnerabilities that threaten to separate her from Jessica. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Astrid Unfortunately Dies In a Heartbreaking Moment
Astrid was adopted by Jessica when the canine was nine years old. Jess finds Astrid sick in a rescue shelter and takes her in. The four-legged animal becomes Jessica’s only true friend as she moves to London for her new job. In a pivotal scene, the protagonist reveals to Felix that Astrid had a cancerous lump in her lung, which was operated on, making her better. Due to this history, Felix calls her ‘Lumpkin,’ and also learns from Jessica that she likes to listen to songs by Fiona Apple.
In another scene Jessica tells Gaz before letting Astrid be in his care that the canine sometimes bleeds from her vagina and that he should let it bleed, rather than trying to contain it. This is an indication of the fact that the dog is living dangerously and has severe medical issues. In the last episode of the series, Felix stays at Jessica’s apartment, worried about their future. As he is packing his bag, he hears Astrid grunting and breathing heavily. He immediately realizes that she is in trouble and rushes her to a veterinary clinic to get her checked.
Astrid continues to heavily wheeze and almost chokes. The receptionist refuses to let her in for treatment initially, and asks Felix to wait till another day, but when he pleads his case and the receptionist realizes that Astrid is at severe risk, she is taken in for treatment. The veterinarians try to get her to breathe by providing her a breathing mask and attaching wires to her body, but despite all their efforts, Astrid succumbs to her condition and breathes her last. Felix cries profusely and apologizes to his unlikely friend. Jessica arrives moments after and breaks down, seeing her only true companion, so far in life, dead.
