Too Much Plot Synopsis
Jess thought she and Zev were endgame until he started to get weird and distant and eventually left her for Wendy Jones, an influencer. After breaking into Zev’s place and terrorising him and Wendy, Jess decides to start a new chapter of her life and accepts the job opportunity that takes her to London. She expects to live in a beautiful estate with gardens and archways and vast grounds, but instead, she is given an apartment in an estate building where the neighbours are loud and maybe even a little violent.
Things take a turn when she meets Felix, an indie musician, in a pub. Their awkward encounter turns from endearing to sexual, and soon, they are in the middle of a full-blown fling. As her relationship with Felix progresses, Jess continues stalking Wendy Jones on Instagram, and Zev keeps popping into her mind at the oddest of moments. Meanwhile, Felix has his own stuff to figure out, from his traumatic past to his chaotic parents and his music career, which seems to have reached a dead end.
While still exploring the true nature of their relationship, the duo also indulges in other flings. For Jess, none of them culminate in something that would make her break up with Felix. However, as his mental health suffers, he becomes distant from her, and eventually, engages in a one-night stand that pushes his and Jess’ relationship to its extreme.
Jessica and Felix’s Relationship Reaches a Breaking Point
The last time Jessica lost the man she loved was because he grew distant and ended up in the arms of another woman. When she moves to London and thinks about embarking on a new relationship, she never thinks that this would also be her fate the second time around. Despite all the ups and downs, she thought she and Felix were going strong until their fallout at his friend’s wedding. Since then, he has become more aloof and disinterested with each passing day. No matter how much she tries to be excited around him or when she shares the news about her finally taking to the director’s chair, he doesn’t have much to say to her.
The relationship reaches a breaking point when Felix has a night out filled with drugs and booze, and he ends up sleeping with a much older woman. The next morning, he confesses the whole thing to Jess, and she tells him to move out while she goes to work. He is in the middle of packing when Jess’ dog Astrid falls sick. He rushes her to the vet’s, but despite all their attempts, they cannot save her, and the dog dies by the time Jess arrives at the hospital. The unfortunate timing of things leads her to blame Felix for the loss of her beloved pet, and this worsens things between them.
With her job done, her pet dead, and her relationship gone, there is nothing tying Jess to London. When Jameson calls her and she tells him about Astrid and Felix, he asks her to come back to New York, where they can finally kickstart her career as a director, especially after her great work in Rita Ora’s Christmas commercial. This seems to be the logical course of action for her while Felix moves back to Auggie’s and slips into old patterns. But then, Jess gets a text from Wendy Jones, and their meeting leads her to reconsider her plans.
Do Jessica and Felix Get Married?
When Jessica meets Wendy Jones, the women talk about being duped by Zev, who was attracted them for being powerful women, but then went on to suck that power right out of them because he couldn’t stand it. As Wendy comes to the conclusion that Zev is not right for her, she also consoles Jess that her perfect person is right around the corner. When Jess reveals that she has already met this person but things didn’t work out between them, Wendy encourages her to reconsider the finality of their breakup and not let go of a person who is meant for her.
Wendy’s words echo with Jess, and she decides to find Felix and fix things with him. Through his Instagram, she discovers that he is with Auggie and the others at a protest. When she shows Gaz, her landlord, the picture, he immediately recognises the place and agrees to drive her there, while also confessing his love for her. Though his rash driving skills are questionable, he gets her there in time. Jess is so eager to reunite with Felix that she steps out of the car while it is still moving. As soon as they are face to face, she starts talking about how she is ready to give their relationship another chance because he feels like home to her, and she wants to keep that feeling. Before Felix can express his agreement on the matter, the cops show up and start arresting the protestors.
Interestingly, they arrest Jess but don’t seem bothered by Felix, even though he was there for the protest while she was there for him. As Jess is handcuffed and taken away, he asks if she wants to get married. At first, she is shocked at this sudden turn of events, but then she agrees. While she is taken away in the police car, Felix is chased down by the cops. Fortunately, neither of them has to spend a lot of time in jail. Sometime later, all their friends and family members arrive in London to celebrate their union. Some are disappointed, like Polly, who is still in love with Felix, while the others are ecstatic. When the couple steps out of the church and have their pictures taken, Felix asks Jess how long she wants to be married. This question catches her off guard, but he tells her he is kidding, suggesting that the playful nature of their relationship is still alive.
Do Wendy and Zev Break Up? Why does Wendy Give Jessica Her T-Shirt Back?
While Jess gets her happy ending with Felix, things don’t go so well for her ex, Zev. When he left her, he made her feel small and insufficient. He brought down her energy to such an extent that she became obsessed with his new girlfriend, and the chaos of her previous relationship carried into her new one. Eventually, when Jess’ videos addressed to Wendy become public, the latter reaches out to her because she realizes that Zev may have painted a fraught picture of his ex. Jess is shocked to be contacted by Wendy, but she agrees to meet her. The women meet in a cafe where Wendy starts by asking for Jess’ help, which she readily offers.
It seems that Wendy has seen all of her videos, and this has made her realise that Zev told her a lot of lies. For example, when she and Zev got together, he told her that he and Jess had been separated for several months. Wendy also realises that all of Zev’s behaviour that Jess talked about in her videos is real, and she has been suffering the same thing. Like the fact that Zev is attracted to strong women, but once he is with them, he cannot handle them and tries to bring them down. They also talk about his sarcasm, his inability to go down on women, and his mommy issues. It seems that he has revealed his true nature to Wendy as well, and once they break up, he will find another strong woman to break down and repeat the same cycle.
While Zev’s behaviour is problematic enough, what hurt Wendy the most was the realisation that she was responsible for ruining another woman’s life. She never wanted Jess to be hurt because of her, and this apology and clearing the air is the reason she asked to meet with her. By the time Wendy leaves, it is clear that she has made up her mind about leaving Zev. To confirm this, it is revealed that she sent Jess’ t-shirt (which originally belonged to her mom and was precious to her) back, which Jess wears over her wedding dress. Her letter to Jess also talks about how she is ready to find a new fit for herself, which means that she has bid the man farewell for good and is moving on to find a real happy ending for herself.
